The Nobel Prize 2002 - 2012

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Moved from Victoria News...

The article basically says that because the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Elfriede Jelinek, has said that she can't come to the Nobel Week because of her phobia - it might be possible for The Queen or Crown Princess to hand over the Prize in Austria. The Nobel Foundation is the one who decides, but this is at least a positive signal from the Court with Ann-Christin Jernberg's comment. Although I would prefer if Elfriede could come to Stockholm...

From Expressobladet (aka Expressen) today (must be the first non-scandal article coming from them!):

Yes, she said that she can't be around many people at a time... And she doesn't travel either, she only travels between the city she lives in and another German town because of something to do with her work at times.

Why "another" german town...the town (Vienna) in which she´s living mainly isn´t german ;) Austrians aren´t Germans...that is, as if you would say, that Victoria is the future Queen of the Swedes and Norwegians ;) This is now not mean meant...just a little correction :)

Oh, she lives in Austria - sorry! Stupid me, mixing it up! I know, difference - Germany and Austria - two countries (and I've even been to both of them!)... I just think I remember Elfriede saying that she travels between two German cities... But maybe it was between and Austran AND German city then...

as one man from Norway have won the Nobel Prize maybe there will be a royal in stockholm what do you think about Princess Astrid?

I found a very nice article/story on The Nobel Foundation's website: Organizing the Nobel Festival Day by Lena de Champ who was the head of the Nobel Festivities Secretariat from 1983 to 1999. It's a nice story about how they go about organizing the Award Ceremony and Banquet, with some anecdotes included. Nothing new, but the anecdotes were nice, and for those who haven't seen the Nobel Day's happenings on TV - it's a guide to what goes on that day.

Less than 50 days left until Nobel Day - the countdown is on:

When Alfred Nobel came up with the idea of the Prizes, Norway and Sweden were the same country. Nobel was Swedish. The Nobel Peace Prize has always been given out in Oslo or in Kristiania which is its former name.

All Nobel Prizes (the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economic Sciences) except the Peace Prize are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden on the culmination of the Nobel Week on 10 December every year - Aldred Nobel's death anniversary. As Dennis said, when Alfred Nobel wrote his will - Norway was still Swedish. And Nobel was a man who believed in the union, so it was no strange thing to let the Storting take care of the Peace Prize. You can read more about Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prizes and everything else on the Nobel Foundations official website

Nobel invented dynamite
Anyway will the Nobel Peace Awards be shown online?

I don't know how it is with the Nobel Peace Prize, but in Stockholm the award is publicly televised isn't it GrandDuchess, while the preparation for the banquet is shown on internet up until the service commences at which time it becomes a private affair. The latter is good taste, imo, and maintains a special aura .... not imho common if its public knowledge of a public event.

Too bad they couldn't pick a name out of a hat (which would be a great way for me to luck into this prestigious event) to step in for her. ;)

The Award Ceremony from the Concert Hall and the Banquet from the City Hall are both broadcasted live on tv. The only thing us viewers don't get to see from the Banquet is when the Royal Family meets with the Laureates in the Prince's Gallery. Otherwise we get to see most things - the procession, the banquet, a bit of the dance, scenes from backstage...

no, the royals never dance at Nobel. The royal couple doesn´t like to do that in public. We´ve only seen them dance a few times, one was at a "paparazzi photo" from the wedding.

Cruise's Nobel Gig Causes Controversy
38s.jpg
Religious leaders in Scandinavia are outraged by the decision to chose scientologist star Tom Cruise to co-host the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway. Cruise and Oprah Winfrey will take to the stage together on December 11 in Oslo to present the star-studded event - which will be broadcast live around the world. But many are concerned Cruise will use the event to promote the controversial religion and have called on the Nobel Institute to withdraw their offer to the Mission: Impossible star, according to website TheScoop.Com. Karl-Erik Nylund, a priest from Stockholm, Sweden, says, "They're a manipulative sect that takes over people's lives and finances. Cruise isn't going to be there as a missionary. But it's difficult to separate the artist Tom Cruise from Scientology Tom Cruise." But Nobel Institute director Geir Lundestad defends the decision: "We're obviously aware that Tom Cruise is a Scientologist but that's not why we chose him. We chose him because he's a known person who is interested in the Nobel Peace Prize and we're proud that we have him."

I wonder if it is time for me to write a nice letter to the Palace an tell them that Im not up for any jokes on this years Nobel. I will not take recap of last year when all the ladies showed up in recycled gown and Madeleine dressed like she was approaching 40 and Victoria looked like she was going to prom. Im all for recyceling and remaking of clothes, but NOT for Nobel.

Also Victoria has used up her gala misses this year, first in Denmark and then with pants:eek: in Spain, and also two recycled dresses for the statevisit to Iceland....Please choose something new, ageapropriate and elegant without ruffels and girly bows this year, and not the button tiara. And Madeleine, there are several levels between the "show all, knock out, red baywatch dress" (Which I personally loved but I dont think anyone remeber who got the prizes that year) and the beige turtleneck thing last year....

Please do, and I would be the first to sign it! :D I've thought of doing the same every now and again, on various matters...

Thank you so much for all your hilarious comments, Dennis! They are just super great! Marvelous! You almost deserve a little special Nobel Prize for them alone. :D

Maybe Queen Silvia herself will dress them for the Nobels!;) Just kidding (although Her Majesty always looks stunning and poised and elegant IMO). I think both Victoria and Madeline are in that stage of life where they haven't quite figured out the most flattering and appropriate way of dressing for public events is yet (although Miss M looked great at the Spanish wedding.) They're probably the best-looking of all the young single female royals of Europe (again, just my opinion!) and it's great when they get their fashions "right".

I was wondering... If Prince Bernhard's funeral is on the day of the Nobel Prize Awards, will there be a member of the Swedish Royal Family there? It probably won't be on that day, but what would happen if it was?

the funeral will be december 11, but there is one more nobel dinner then so maybe victoria will go.-..

The Nobel Day (the day of the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and Nobel Banquet) is on Friday 10 December, so it's one day before the funeral. The King also hosts a dinner for the Laureates at the Royal Palace of Stockholm every year, which usually takes place only days after the Nobel Day.

So, the Nobel Day is no problems - but it depends on when The King had planned to host his dinner this year. They might postphone it, or then have it earlier if possible. We'll see when next week's calendar is published. But I'm sure they want to attend Prince Bernhard's funeral - and they should do so, it would be the right thing to do.

The whole family will attend!! Hurra!! (As we say in Sweden...)

Yes, this is really good news. So we can compare the looks of all Royal ladies. And some*, who weren´t extraordinary good dressed in 2004 (so far) could eliminate bad memories in the minds of some Royal watchers by wearing a stunning dress.

*To protect persons, names aren´t named ;)

I wonder if Madeleine will coordinate the colour and pattern of the dresses for the whole family this time around? It would be one way of reversing a flub of a year gone by.

The funeral of Prince Bernard will take place in the morning and The Nobel Dinner will take place in the evening. So,King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia will stay in The Netherlands for few hours and they will come back to attend the dinner in the evening. So,they will be so tired.
