Why o why is she following her mother's example by wearing a blazer over her shoulders. I don't like it for Maxima but even less so for Amalia.

:previous: Agree, and the jacket need some ironing.

The Princess of Orange is very lovely but would like to see her do something different with an upstyle or tied back.

Seeing the wrinkled sleeves, the Princess started with wearing the blazer soon became too hot in the humid heat and placed it over her shoulder.

She has to find her own signature style, hopefully away from Queen Máxima's style indeed.

And away from Nathan also!

A lovely look for Catharina-Amalia on Bonaire today, January 28:

This is a lovely look on her. However, I'm not a fan of the uneven hemline and the bag doesn't really go with the outfit. The dress, the color, the pattern, etc. look lovely on her, though.

Catharina-Amalia in the evening, at the Taste of Bonaire event:

I'm not a fan of this look. The jacket is far too heavy for the location and the event, especially given her that her parents are both wearing much lighter and cooler outfits. Her shoes clearly don't fit well as her toes are hanging over the end and the the style of the dress doesn't really do her justice. If this had been a different color (maybe a light pink, mint green, or baby blue, lilac even) with a shorter length (knee length, maybe) this would have been great. As it is, though, it's just too much all the way around.

That's a lovely outfit! Such style suits her so well. Perfect hairstyle as well.

The pants suit is her best outfit so far. Flattering, modern, perfect for the tropical climate. Her hair and accessories were great, too.

Catharina-Amalia in a nice, light suit on Aruba today, January 30:

She looks terribly under-dressed compared to the other ladies (her mama included). She should have worn a nice hat or fascinator and a more formal outfit than what she's wearing.

And she should have thrown away her sunglasses, her mother too. I find it disrespectful to wear sunglasses at a public event.

And indeed: the Queen, the escorting ladies, the authorities of Aruba, all were waaaaay more formal dressed than The Princess of Orange.

Maybe it was hinting on two thoughts: she is only a student vs she is Her Royal Highness The Princess of Orange.

But she has years to find her own style. For so far I she looks to become alike her Prussian and Russian relative Georg von Preußen / Georgy Michailovich Romanov and his mother Maria Vladimirovna Romanova.

I think she looks good. She's only 18 and anything more would have made her look older. The suit looks great on her- professional and age appropriate.

I wonder why she didn't change into a second outfit like her Mom did?

She will become 20 this year.

This is the 21st century. Women don't have to wear dresses to be 'formal'.

People are going to have to get used to women wearing pants, and not rocking pearls and fascinators. This new generation of royal women are not growing up in mindset that 'skirts are formal pants are casual'.

The suit is nice and age appropriate, light weight. A fascinator at such a casual event would be way out of place.

I don't see Alisa's comment suggested C-A shall wear a skirt......? BTW I completely miss that C-A didn't have a hat while the other ladies wore one. Wondering will we see her in hat in this tour.

While I agree that Amalia's outfit was fine. It was not a casual event at all. It was the official welcome ceremony in one of the countries she is the crown princess of on her very first visit. Her parents attire showed that they did treat it as the official event it was. The afternoon was more informal hence Willem-Alexander's change from full suit with tie to only wearing formal trousers with (formal) shirt.

[...]

This is the 21st Century indeed, with miraculously a hereditary monarchy. And she is the future Queen. All ladies, the Queen, the hofdames, the female escorting minster, the female Prime Minister of Aruba, the spouse of the Governor, all were formally dressed as there was a welcome ceremony, an inspection of the guard of honour by the Royal Navy, an official reception at the Government building etc.

See this picture: not one lady without a hat or fascinator, not one.
Eh... pardon, except for one lady totally off-key with the rest...

I think the suit was fine. A headpiece would have suited the occasion.

She is also the only 19-year-old in the group. Do you honestly think the Dutch would like a 19-year-old crown princess who is already wearing hats? I don't think it will be good for her reputation or popularity. The Dutch will prefer a down to earth crown princess, not a posh one. She can start wearing hats after finishing university if she wants.

The argument "she is only 19" does not count. At "only eighteen" one can buy a house, take a mortgage, drive a car, cast a vote, and, oh yes: having access to the Council of State and wearing diamond diadems at glittering events.

These pictures show Princess Catharina-Amalia can dress absolutely stylish, if only right choices, dessins and materials are used.

I'd rather see Princess Catarina Amalia try out different options and make some mistakes, than seeing her be uncomfortable in Maxima drag. She'll learn what's expected of her and put her personal twist on it. Also, I'm 100% certain that her generation of royals won't wear hats for daytime engagements, but only when absolutely necessary. Even her older colleagues in the UK are wearing less hats now that Queen Elizabeth is gone.

Re-read my previous message. I NEVER said the Princess had to wear a dress to be formal.

However it is important for the Princess to understand where an invent falls on the formality spectrum. Some royal events require formal attire (hats included) and some can allow jeans or cargo pants. It is for the Princess to know and dress accordingly.

In aforementioned instance all the ladies present are formally dressed and wearing a hat. The Princess of Oranje should have followed suit.

Not sure why you seem to be 'attacking' me. I am Dutch myself and stated that her attire was fine (on the picture that was posted above I just noticed that even the secretary of state for kingdom relations was wearing trousers!). I just disagreed with someone saying it was an informal event :flowers: - and pointed out that it was in fact a very formal occasion.

I agree with you, let princess Amalia be herself. To many negative opinions about princess Amalia & of course queen Maxima dress sense and it doesn't matter what everyone says, as Iam Dutch I still love the Dutch royal family including the rest of the House of Orange.

I agree! Amalia's suit was appropriate business attire. She looked great.

I don't think she needed a hat for an event like this. It would have looked odd with the pants suit, and it seems a bit dated for young women.

(And I'm glad she didn't wear a fascinator. IMHO, they look ridiculous. :?
