Seeing the wrinkled sleeves, the Princess started with wearing the blazer soon became too hot in the humid heat and placed it over her shoulder.
She has to find her own signature style, hopefully away from Queen Máxima's style indeed.

A lovely look for Catharina-Amalia on Bonaire today, January 28:

She looks terribly under-dressed compared to the other ladies (her mama included). She should have worn a nice hat or fascinator and a more formal outfit than what she's wearing.
I think she looks good. She's only 18 and anything more would have made her look older. The suit looks great on her- professional and age appropriate.
I wonder why she didn't change into a second outfit like her Mom did?

This is the 21st century. Women don't have to wear dresses to be 'formal'.
People are going to have to get used to women wearing pants, and not rocking pearls and fascinators. This new generation of royal women are not growing up in mindset that 'skirts are formal pants are casual'.
The suit is nice and age appropriate, light weight. A fascinator at such a casual event would be way out of place.

While I agree that Amalia's outfit was fine. It was not a casual event at all. It was the official welcome ceremony in one of the countries she is the crown princess of on her very first visit. Her parents attire showed that they did treat it as the official event it was. The afternoon was more informal hence Willem-Alexander's change from full suit with tie to only wearing formal trousers with (formal) shirt.
She is also the only 19-year-old in the group. Do you honestly think the Dutch would like a 19-year-old crown princess who is already wearing hats? I don't think it will be good for her reputation or popularity. The Dutch will prefer a down to earth crown princess, not a posh one. She can start wearing hats after finishing university if she wants.
Re-read my previous message. I NEVER said the Princess had to wear a dress to be formal. This is the 21st century. Women don't have to wear dresses to be 'formal'.

I'd rather see Princess Catarina Amalia try out different options and make some mistakes, than seeing her be uncomfortable in Maxima drag. She'll learn what's expected of her and put her personal twist on it. Also, I'm 100% certain that her generation of royals won't wear hats for daytime engagements, but only when absolutely necessary. Even her older colleagues in the UK are wearing less hats now that Queen Elizabeth is gone.
I agree with you, let princess Amalia be herself. To many negative opinions about princess Amalia & of course queen Maxima dress sense and it doesn't matter what everyone says, as Iam Dutch I still love the Dutch royal family including the rest of the House of Orange.
