The Duchess of Sussex's Maternity Fashion: October 2018 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
To be honest, if something she choses to wear is really inappropriate, I'm quite sure Harry would tell her. He has been around royal ladies and their dresses his whole life and although he might not be into high end fashion, he has eyes and can say this is okay and this is not okay.

Wonderful that Meghan was able to attend this engagement in a lovely summer dress from Reformation! A company that makes ‘sustainable clothing’ through the use of repurposed & recycled material. A theme that Meghan shares with her husband, Harry and father-in-law, Prince Charles.

in general i like her style (without the dresses in olive) and when she wears black/navy.
and my styling rule is like hers - if it suits me/ if i like it i'll buy similiar things in this style, with little differences. if you would see me at work you would think I'll wear every day the same outfit - the only thing that changes, is my black band t-shirt... (i have over 50 different band shirts)

I love the &Other Stories polka dot dress. It's super cute and very wearable.

On the fence about the Reformation dress. This to me is your epitome of a vacation dress, and she is not on vacation. She is working and I don't see this as a work appropriate outfit. Yes, it's Australia and it's summer, so probaly f*cking hot, but it's a no for me.

You can wear a summer dress and still look super chique, like this: https://www.net-a-porter.com/nl/en/...tile-crochet-paneled-embroidered-ramie-dress-

From what I understand one of the Queen's most senior advisors is there with them...if there was an issue with clothing not being appropriate etc...I'm pretty sure they'd be told so.

LOVED the red polka dot dress!

Hated the stripped dress she wore for the walkabout. It looked cheaply made and just not appropriate for the event IMO. But she looks beautiful overall. Much better rested than she looked a day or so ago.

Yes I agree with you on both outfits Zaira. Loved the polka dot dress and I'd like to see another in a similar style without polka dots. Not a fan of the striped dress for a royal engagement.
IMO it's borderline too high of a slit.

I like the polka dot dres. It reminds me of the dress Kate wore recently and I liked that. I’m just one that doesn’t dislike polka dots like others do lol. I like the Reformation sundress but when she’s bending, it is a little revealing. I just think she could have worn a dress with a slit that was a little lower but it’s still cute.

I dont think he would. He loves Meghan, loves her style, wants her to be comfortable (esp now), he wouldnt want to upset her.

He would stay quiet. :flowers:

I actually have the opposite feeling about the two dresses. I didn't much care for the polka dot dress. And it's not the polka dots either. I really like the gray and white dress, on the other hand.

Eh, about prettiness of things maybe (think Celia's wedding). But I doubt he'd let her go to an engagement not following the dress code.

I do think the slit was too high because she had to really clutch at it when the wind blew to keep it from exposing too much. Lesson to learn for her team about preparing for all sorts of conditions. But honestly, most newly royal women have to learn that the hard way in their first year. Nothing new or unusual here.

I like the sundress top on her; she has such gorgeous shoulders. The queen used to wear shoulder-baring fashion when she was young with lovely young shoulders, too. I doubt she’d be scandalized by this dress.

But that polka dotted dress may be my favorite of everything we’ve seen on her so far. I get the sense she’s trying to build a sort of work uniform of similar pieces. I tend to agree with speculation at Lainey Gossip that she’s doing so in an effort to take some of the focus away from the fashion as she works to shake off any lingering perception of her as the actress who posed on red carpets and taped fluffy little style tip videos for TV magazine shows. I’m not sure her approach has found the right balance yet, but I can’t be too bothered, either. As much as we like to look at royal fashion, being fashion plates isn’t actually part of the job description.

But the Queen's advisor is with them...I have a hard time thinking she wouldn't say something.

Yeah so? Just because an advisor is with them, doesn't automatically mean every decision is bullet proof.

Absolutely love Meghan's polka dot dress - it's refreshing indeed to see her in colour! I love & Other Stories too - IIRC CP Victoria of Sweden and Princess Sofia of Sweden have both worn dresses/shirts from the store, and I also have a very pretty shirt from there myself.
Her grey and white dress is great for a warm day out and isn't too revealing at all IMO. We're not living in the Victorian era :ermm:

What's the point in having a senior advisor along if they aren't making sure things go smoothly? No way do I think this dress didn't get vetted either before they left or looked at the day she wore it.

The linen sundress is actually my favorite so far on this tour. Meghan has the ability to wear outfits that suit her, reflect her own tastes and being appropriate and fashionable to garner interest without her clothing overshadowing anything she's doing. That's the most important aspect for me. She's not dressing for a runway or dressing to promote trends, colors, designers or a "look at me now" kind of an attitude but comes across as just wearing clothes because that is what people do. Gives more attention to what she is doing rather than what she is wearing.

In a way, she is kind of like the Queen for me. The Queen is always impeccably dressed but for the most part, in photographs, what you notice first and foremost is the Queen's smile that lights up a room. With Meghan, the clothes are also just part of what you see and not the entire focus of the whole picture.

I think Meghan’s maternity wardrobe is being put together on the fly. I think her friend (Jessica Mulroney?) is shopping furiously and shuttling clothes to her on a daily basis. Her ‘bump’ and other parts are expanding rather rapidly now and the size she requires changes almost daily.

I find it rather endearing that she’s been wearing repeats and that she doesn’t always look like she just stepped out of a fashion showroom. Imagine being a newlywed and newly pregnant, halfway around the world from home, seeing crowds every day and being watched by the eyes of the world...and never being sure if you are going to fit into anything suitable the next morning!

My pregnancy was during the bygone era of flowing smock dresses... so much easier.

the polka dress is to die for one of her best look so far
she also looks very pretty in sundress suits her perfectly but i think this is not my idea of outfit for an official engagement she looks like a tourist while she is on an official visit to represent HM.

:previous: I don’t know if she had to walk in the rain, or the storm was a big surprise but a good hairdress will take account of the weather and adjust accordingly with styling and products. In any case her has has been appropriate, different and interesting and nicely executed on this tour.
Anyone that thinks they can predict the vicissitudes of the weather in Australia and more particulatly a Sydney thunderstorm is dreaming. Where else would they just wait out the storm and then carry on rather than postponing.

Not just any Aide, but with HM's gifted Aide, it's as near as damn it. Samantha is called the Panther for a reason and that is because she is a straightforward, tell it like it is, Australian born, ringmaster and is definitely able to advise both Harry and Meghan as to the degree of formality or informality that is required for each engagement.

I really loved the maroon polka dot dress, both the colour and the cut was gorgeous on Meghan as was the linen grey and white striped dress. It was perfect for the venue and the event.
(..)
:previous: Not the first time we've seen royal bare shoulders, skinny straps, or a high slit. And yes, had it been any higher, it'd be inappropriate, but it wasn't any higher.
Well on this trip we have never once had to decide 'thong or commando'.

Her stylist has known she was pregnant for minimum two months and could estimate what stage she would be in. Someone who is really good with fashion and clothes and is familiar with her client could design a wardrobe for a 3-4 month pregnant woman quickly and ahead of time. My mother did just that for me, made me several dressy and everyday things for the thick in the middle, slight pot belly stage. If you have expertise, it is easy.

Even if you know approximately how far along she'll be, it's difficult to pin it down exactly. And it's not just the belly. Although that in itself is difficult enough to predict. Unfortunately, Meghan does not have the luxury of having something just run big and not get slammed.

Another Australian designer for dress :flowers: And British hat.

Not a big fan. Find it bit blah and never like those so called hats.

I'm not going to be a popular gal here for saying this, but I prefer Philip Tracey over Stephen Jones. :hiding:

Honestly, Meghan wears hats so well, I wish she'd just go for a slicer hat all the time.

I think she looks nice and thank God it's not navy! Hope that skirt remains down during the blustery winds. The hat is rather cute, and it is nice that she's wearing a bracelet from the Prince of Wales.

If she made it down the stairs at the airport, the skirt will stay down. It's likely we won't see navy or black or any rich or deep color in Fiji and Tonga. One of the recommended ways to prevent mosquito bites.

But her clothes are in danger of not fitting.

That white dress is absolutely bland. Neutral. You do not feel anything for him, because it's totally normal.
