I have liked most of McQueen's styles on Kate...but not this one. It's very off for me.

Probably not the thread for this, but...Catherine shook hands with someone during the entry procession. I think it might have been Steve Mnuchin’s wife, the actress Louise Linton.
Yes, Louise Linton. Ironically, she played one of Kate's friends in one of the William and Kate TV movies.

I've google and googled, but what is the star brooch she's wearing at her waist? I get results on the sash, the cross at the bottom of it and the order, but not the silver looking star/cross at the waist.

I must be the only one who actually likes it! I thought Kate looked lovely.

I believe its her GCVO

For all the people slagging Sarah Burton, she's been head of womenswear at McQueen since 2000. So many of the dresses from the last 20 years are actually her creations.
Yes, and all of McQueen´s iconic creations were not designed by her.

I don't like the fact it's white, I wish it was a different colour which would frankly make the whole thing look better but it just looks like a wedding dress.

.

I can see why she wore white though- easier to match the blue and yellow. I like the cut of the dress. It fits well on her. Not crazy about all the fringe, but that’s my main quibble.

The Queen, duchess of Cornouailles, Duchess of Cambridge and First Lady, all worn white. Is is a kind of hidden dress code for the highest ladies? I think the queen always wears white for state dinners, also Mrs Sarcozy wore white for state visit.

White always shows off sashes and orders better. I think this is the first time Catherine has worn white to a banquet, it was red and pink before.

Mrs Sarkozy, Carla Bruni, wore Black at the State Banquet and burgundy at the return dinner unless you mean not to the UK?

You are right. Carla Bruni wore blue Roland Mouret long dress in the State Banquet. The same was worn by the duchess of Cambridge in off white version. So I mixed up thinks. Thanks

Indeed while I am no a great fan of th style or lace on her gown, that could just because when I was young you could buy gorgeous figurines is women in just such dresses where the lace on each layer was real but glazed.

However, I wondered if Catherine didn't make her very own soft protest . . . white and violet were the colours of the women of the sufferagette movement. Well played, intentional or not.

^ Violet, white and green were the colours of the Women's suffrage movement....

Why would she be protesting something? And why the suffragettes colours?

Personally, I think the choice of those with the highest ranks wearing white put the "apolitical" stamp on the banquet. If the Queen had wore red or blue even, it could be picked up as "supporting" a specific party for or against President Trump. White also denotes peace and it seemed like the state banquet was a cordial and pleasant affair with no hiccups.

It is kind of funny thought that the media picked up on the Queen's Burmese rubies as "omens against disease and protection". Go figure.

Princess Anne also wore white and I thought her dress lovely on her. Sophie did not wear white, but also looked very nice.

That's a fantastic color, very creamy and rich, and what I can see of the style is lovely as well. It also looks like the shamrock brooch again, which goes beautifully with the warm tones of the coat.

I really like this coat. Her up do is lovely as well.

Kate always looks elegant in Catherine Walker.

Great look for Kate...very elegant.

I really like her hair style- not too severely swept back. She looks so well groomed from head to toe.

The coat looks better with the brooch. Maybe it is the angle of the pictures but the part below the belt looks narrower this time than in the other wearings. Or maybe not.

Truly gorgeous coat with perfect seaming and piping and a good color for her. Nice makeup, seems lighter, and good hairdo. Catherine walker always seems to be a winner

The colour of peace and sacrifice, is white.
The royal ladies, Catherine and Camilla wearing it is symbolic and they look lovely teaming it with a pale golden hue or simple brooch.
The uniforms and flags offer the colours that stand out.

Did she wear the dress to a similar or same event as the gentleman escorting her looks to be the same guy?

I really don’t like this dress is reminds me of a cut out paper snowflake gone back and makes Catherine look thiner than she is. The shoes however look lovely and it’s nice to see her hair down.
