Yes, on my monitor it's the pale pink Varela-nice choice and shows off her guns!

Its a really lovey outfit and perfect for the Luncheon at the Palacio Real.

Agreed queen Letizia could have worn another outfit for the arrival but its part and parcel of the norm in general with Letizia's minimal effort.

At least the first lady made an effort for the welcome ceremony I guess.

Really lovely ans a nice neat hairstyle too for the occasion.

That's elegant and so regal!

The Queen looks lovely in white but is this the same ceremony were Queen Sofia often wore a mantilla? I don't think Queen Letizia has ever worn one. It is probably out of date & only worn in parts of Spain but I always thought it is a lovely tradition and she would look great with it.

She's worn one a few times, but they are not only traditional but ultra-conservative, and were somewhat forced on Sofia and essentially re-popularized by those around Franco. A very interesting history post from a Spaniard here: https://lilibetshandbag.blog/designer-diaries-peinetas-and-mantillas/

The dress is lovely, but am I the only one that thinks that there should be a slip underneath or a thicker lining for this dress? I can definitely see through the bottom. Hair and jewels are wonderful.

You're not the only one. In some of the pics it looks see through from the knees down, but in others it's the entire lower half of the dress. There appears to be a lining but it should be thicker. It's a beautiful dress though and I love the blue shoes and bag. And her hair looks wonderful!

At least the Queen wore a daytime decoration of the Order of Charles III. I don't know why she doesn't do that also on Armed Forces Day for example.

Maybe the difference here is that she is presiding over the ceremony.

She has worn a long gown and a mantilla for such Events when she was still Princess of Asturias. But not anymore since becoming Queen.

That tradition started with Queen Sofia and end with Queen Sofia, her daughter in law doesn't do tradition.

Wearing a mantilla made this event special. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the mantilla, admittedly I would love to see the mantilla in a short dress on Letizia, more modern than Sofia's mourning robe. Letizia is often criticized for breaking with "traditions", but it was also Sofia who stopped wearing hats and didn't wear tiaras abroad. Both queens have modernized the royal house in their own way. Its a lovely Look today, perfect!

Thank God, Felipe and Letizia do not have to maintain all the "traditions" of the previous reign... and I say the previous one, because Queen Victoria Eugenia dressed like Letizia in this type of event.

Sofía resorted to the mantilla or the flamenco dress to demonstrate her "Spanishness"... but these are stereotypes of a Spanish region, with which millions of Spaniards do not feel represented. Letizia was born in Asturias and lived a large part of her life in Madrid, her vision of Spanish culture and traditions are not those of the stereotype.

Probably the Ministry of Defense has been delighted with banishing that dress code reminiscent of Franco's time, and for transmitting an image according to a 21st century army of which women are part.

Queen Letizia's decision whether or not to wear the miniature of the Order of Carlos III probably depends on the dress code of the event.

I'm team mantilla all the way. It is such a beautiful Spanish custom- I feel it should be continued. If I recall correctly, she did wear one at a flag presentation as Princess of Asturias.

While beautiful the dress is too shear on the bottom. Other than that she looks very good.

Letizia wore Mantilla only three times as PoA:

It makes sense that the Greek queen was 'encouraged' to wear something that makes her look Spanish ... but it's a thing of the past.

Today's dress is very transparent depending on the angle, and the bare arms... she has looked a lot better at recent flag ceremonies.

Are you saying she never wore one to see the Pope?

Let us please get back to Queen Letizia's current fashion choices, we have an extra thread for Royals Visiting The Pope and with that the Privilège du blanc.

Bland but professional looking outfit on the queen today.

I agree. I love the complete white dress but shoes, purse and jewelry all match in that lovely shade of blue to set it off. Well thought out outfit. Hair also great.

The blouse adds a nice splash of colour and is very summery too.

The blouse has been sewn in the workshop of the "Association for the prevention, reinsertion and attention to prostituted women". Queen Letizia has already worn a dress from that workshop, since she has been collaborating with the association for several years.
