The Prince of Wales was among those looking on as his youngest son led the guard of honour's march out on to College Field with their colours at the yearly tattoo.

As well as the parade and inspection of the Royal Guard, the hour-long tattoo also included a gun race, unarmed combat, RAF continuity displays, the corps band and a set-piece battle.

Harry, ceremonial sword in hand, barked out the orders as he led his troops out to be inspected by Old Etonian Brigadier Jamie Balfour, former Commander of the British Armed Forces in Bosnia and now Director of Infantry.

Prince Charles's guest for the evening was former Royal nanny Tiggy Pettifer, who was among about 500 guests including the boys' friends and family.

After Harry and his troops retired to change from their berets and formal tunics into their battle gear, the crowd was treated to a noisy firing display by light artillery guns on loan from the Army.

Music was provided by the Corps Band and The Pipes and Drums led by Major Jim Motherwell, the Queen's piper.

Prince Harry commands parade

Prince Harry called his troops to attention last night as he headed a military tattoo at Eton College, where he is a member of the Combined Cadet Force.

The Prince, chosen as commander of the trooping the colour parade, led his troops out to be inspected by Old Etonian Brig Jamie Balfour, former Commander of the British Armed Forces in Bosnia and now Director of Infantry.

Prince Harry, watched by the Prince of Wales and his former nanny Tiggy Pettifer, led 48 cadets on to the floodlit College Field.

They displayed the results of their year-long training programme by performing a gun race, unarmed combat, RAF continuity displays and a set-piece battle.

His elder brother, Prince William, has also revealed an interest in the Army by deciding to join the Officer Training Corps at St Andrews University.

His decision is seen as a indication that he will persue a military career in the Welsh Guards. One officer said he had wanted to join the SAS, but was told very firmly that he could not. He is now expected to be commissioned into the Guards.

After spending time with the Guards on Salisbury Plain and in the jungles of Belize, Prince William confided in his Army minder that he would like to take a short-term commission.

"We have been told to make preparations," said a source within the Welsh Guards. "That doesn't mean it is written in stone - he may change his mind - but I expect he will come and spend a couple of years with us and then take on the role of Colonel that his father currently has.

"We have seen a lot of him in the past few years and without doubt he has a keen desire to join the SAS, which his aides clearly ruled out."

The Army's Arms Plot, which dictates where units serve, has been changed to ensure that the regiment is based at Wellington Barracks, close to Buckingham Palace, when the Prince would be ready to leave Sandhurst.

Like his older brother William, Harry has spent his Eton schooldays boarding at Manor House, on the site of the lodgings of probably the most famous Old Etonian of them all, victor of Waterloo, the Duke of Wellington. It has been announced that Prince Harry is to apply for entry to the Royal Military Acdemy at Sandhurst

Harry hopes to be a career soldier

Prince Harry wants to be a career soldier, St James's Palace has said as he leaves Eton after completing his last exam.

As he begins a gap year, it was announced that 18-year-old Harry would apply to Sandhurst military academy. He will be assessed by the Army before going before the Regular Commissions Board.

The Pre-RCB assessment will take place during his gap year and, if successful, Harry is expected to join the Army late next year. His gap year will begin this autumn and is likely to involve travel abroad. Details of the Prince's gap-year plans will be announced in September.

Harry, third in line to the throne, has not chosen a regiment yet but speculation has centred on the Welsh Guards. He is likely to be a strong candidate to enrol at Sandhurst after distinguishing himself at Eton in the school's Combined Cadet Corps.

As Parade Commander, with the highest rank of Officer Cadet, he led a detachment of 48 cadets in last month's Eton tattoo. Prince Charles watched as Harry confidently barked orders for the guard of honour, which was reviewed by an Army chief.

In an exceptional year for the Eton Cadet Corps, he was runner-up for the top accolade of Sword of Honour.

St James's Palace also announced that Harry took two A-levels during his final year at school - art and geography, having dropped history of art.

Harry lights up in public
by RICHARD KAY, Daily Mail
17th June 2003

Free at last from Eton's tough no-smoking policy, Prince Harry has been seen puffing away contentedly, clearly feeling no need to hide his ten-a-day habit.

Just days after leaving school for the last time, Harry was seen lighting up during a break in a polo match at Cirencester, near his father's Highgrove home.

Charles, a passionate non-smoker, hopes his 18-year-old son will outgrow the habit. "It's no secret he dislikes cigarettes, but like most parents he's pretty relaxed about it," said a royal aide.

"Harry's not a chain-smoker, but he's over 18 and if he wants to have the odd cigarette then why not? He's had to work very hard for his A-level exams in recent weeks and he is entitled to relax now."

The young prince had his first furtive smoke at the age of ten - courtesy of his former nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke.

Harry began smoking more seriously in his teens, but strict rules at Eton - smokers face a £25 fine and being sent home for two days - curtailed the habit during term-time.

The Prince of Wales blames cigarettes for the deaths of Princess Margaret and his grandfather King George VI and has tried to persuade his sons not to smoke.

William, who tried it and disliked it, heeded his words. In this, Charles was helped by Camilla Parker Bowles, who once smoked 40 a day but gave up two years ago.

SEXY CAPRICE UNWRAPS A SPECIAL SURPRISE FOR HER STUDENT PRINCE:
HERE'S MY LEAVING PRESENT FOR YOU, HARRY

EXCLUSIVE by GRAEME CULLIFORD

Sexy supermodel Caprice thinks charming Prince Harry deserves a
leaving-school present like every young man who's just finished his A-
levels.

So here it is, Harry. . . unwrapped and ready for inspection before
you march off to be a soldier. Caprice, the girl of your dreams, is
making sure you can stay in touch. After spotting her raunchy poster
on the Prince's bedroom wall, Caprice teamed up with your top-totty
newspaper to reward his efforts at Eton with this picture tribute.

The fun-loving teenager gave a sneak insight into his private life
with a fly-on the-wall photo shoot in his tiny study - and revealed
the California babe had pride of place.

Now he can keep his pecker up with these sizzling shots of the 28-
year-old babe as goes through his paces at Sandhurst military
academy.

Handsome Harry is to train as an officer after taking a year out from
studies and the model is "chuffed to bits" she'll be keeping him
company, so to speak. "I hope I stay in pride of place, " she
said. "After six years, I regard England as my home. It's an honour
to get such recognition from the Royal Family."

A friend of Harry's said: "He's always saying Caprice is the girl of
his dreams. I'm sure he'd love some new pictures of her - he might be
short of female company at Sandhurst."

The 18-year-old prince had relied on the Caprice poster to cheer him
up through gruelling years of study at Eton, where he excelled in
art, biology, sport and theatre.

A Sandhurst source said: "The rules are pretty strict around here, so
Harry might have a problem with a poster.

"But I'm sure if he does bring in photographs of Caprice, they will
create a lot of interest."

Harry bade a cheery farewell on Thursday to staff at Eton's Manor
House where he has spent the last five years. After finishing his
last A-level paper, Prince Harry - third in line to the throne -
looked every inch the archetypal student as he threw a number of bin
bags into the back of a waiting car at the exclusive 15th Century
Berkshire school.

Among his kitbags an armystyle camouflage rucksack could clearly be
seen - an indication perhaps of the career that lies ahead.

As he drove off, a relieved Harry gave a jubilant twofisted salute
and let out a mighty yell of "Yes!"

And when he sees these shots of his favourite pinup, it's odds-on the
student prince will soon be shouting:

"Yes, yes, YES!"

HARRY PUTS WILLIES UP TELLY NEWS CREW

EXCLUSIVE by IAN TRUEMAN

Fun-loving Prince Harry made a camera crew look real plonkers on his
last day at Eton.

The eager TV team marked out their position in bold black tape
outside the top toffs' college to film him as he left.

They spelt out ITN in big letters before they went home for the
night. But when they returned next day to join the world's Press,
they found the 18-yearold had played a right royal prank.

During the night he sneaked out of his Manor House lodgings and re-
arranged the tape. . . in the shape of a WILLY!

"Harry really wanted to have one last laugh on some of the TV crews
who had been following him, " said an Eton source.

"He watched the cameramen mark out their patches the night before.
And when darkness fell he and a couple of mates peeled up the black
tape marking out their area and the words ITN - and rearranged them
in the form of a man's privates.

"He's a good artist - and his work was excellent!"

A cameraman victim added: "We just couldn't believe our eyes when we
went to take up our position. Instead of our marked-out area and the
word ITN there was a man's tackle - and the word was quickly fed back
to us that it was a little present from the Prince."

Harry left Eton last week after completing his art and geography A-
levels and hopes to attend Sandhurst Army College after taking a gap
year out.

It has also been revealed that Harry was left blushing after a girl's
pink G-string was found in his 10ft by 8ft bedroom, when he gave a
snapper permission to do a flyon-the-wall photo shoot.

His fondness for sexy undies was first revealed in 2001, when he
bought a fur thong at Selfridges as a gift for someone.

HARRY almost missed his last polo match for Eton College - because
the Queen tends to drive too slowly.

His grandmother, who often enjoys driving through Windsor Great Park
in her green Daimler, agreed to drop Harry off - but her pace was so
slow, Harry arrived 10 minutes after the game's 3pm start.

England polo cap for Prince Harry
(From the yahoo group William_Online)

PRINCE Harry is to captain the England Schools polo team in an
international against France this weekend, it was announced last
night.

Harry was picked from hundreds of young players across the country to
lead the team on his debut. A spokeswoman for St James's Palace
said: "He will obviously be delighted."

Harry is known to be an enthusiastic and competitive polo player and
sometimes plays in the Highgrove team with Prince Charles and Prince
William.

The match against France Schools takes place on Sunday at the Dallas
Burston Polo Grounds on the Stoneythorpe Estate, Southam,
Warwickshire.

Harry is also an accomplished skier and cricketer, having captained
school teams and bowled in the 2001 and 2002 senior house finals at
Eton.

Part of the press is encouraging and enticing Harry into becoming a playboy prince for everyone's entertainment, and in not so many years, they will be criticizing him for using up tax payers money as they are now doing with Prince Andrew. I would not want to be in their shoes for anything.

By Charles Rae

Prince Harry tumbled off his polo pony yesterday - like his dad has often done.

He was thrown from the horse as he made his debut as captain of the English Schools polo team.

And watching his embrassing downfall was dad Prince Charles, who notched up dozens of broken bones and other injuries playing the toffs sports over the years.

Harry, 18, slipped from the saddle when his pony reared up during the first minutes of his international match - a game against France.

The horse shot off across the field and out of the enclosure, leaving Harry rubbing his bruised backside.

Charles, who had arrived by helicopter, winced as he saw his son fall.

The game was stopped temporarily while Harry took another mount and he soon back in the thick of the action.

The young Prince had been keen to be on top form for the match, at Dallas Burston polo ground in Southam, Warwicks.

He even turned down an intivation to a party on Saturday night - the Eton leavers' bash.

It was not enough to clinch the match.

The French team, which started with half-point handicap advantage, won by four and half points to three.

Charles has been a frequent visitor to hospitals after polo injuries which contributed to his recurrent back problems.

In 1980, he needed 12 stitches to a gash.

And in 1994, he was forced to give up playing competitive polo on doctor's orders.

In August 2001, Prince William watched in horror as his father lay unconscious after polo spill.

He had knocked himself and swallowed his tongue.

The Prince was saved by a paramedic.

Earlier that year, Charles broke his shoulder when he was thrown from a horse while out hunting.

Harry is regarded as a very good polo player and plays in the same Highgrove team as his father and William.

The verdict from other players on Harry's performance was positive despite his fall.

Anoushka Segiler, 14 and Rachel Wrey 15, who play for Heathfield School in Berkshire, both praised him.

Anoushka said: " I saw him play in Spain last year and he's improved a lot. He places himself well and he was definetley a worthy captain."

Rachel added: "he was very good. He played a good game."

John Llyod, of the schools and universities polo association, which organsied the tournament, said: "It was unfortunate for that fall to happen at the beginning of the game. These things do happen.

"However England quickly recovered and and gave the French a run for their money."

I think that Harry bears more than a passing resemblance to Hewitt. Poor kid...imagine looking like the man that sold out on your mother...AND MORE THAN ONCE.

Speaking of Harry, there was a photo of him in the last edition of People magazine that showed him smoking a cigarette. It was supposedly taken during a night on the town. I'm no prude and Harry's just like any other kid hi age but you very rarely see a pic of any member of the Royal family with a cigarette in their hand.
