24th of April 1558 : Marriage of Mary , Queen of Scots and the Dauphin François at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.


By this union the Dauphin François became King of Scots with Mary's mother Marie de Guise continuing to rule as Regent.
Mary , Queen of Scots was granted the duchy of Touraine for life.

At the time of his birth Edward was the eldest surviving son of Richard Duke of York and the Lady Cecily Neville.
Edwards father was holding Normandy for the English and trying to halt French advances.His wife the duchess accompanied him to Normand and 2 other children were born at Rouen.

Elizabeth of York (later Duchess of Suffolk) born in April 1444.

2nd of May 1302 : Death of Blanche d'Artois,dowager Queen of Navarre and dowager Countess of Champagne ,Brie and dowager Countess of Lancaster and of Leicester.

Blanche was the granddaughter of Louis VIII and Blanche de Castille and in 1269 married Henry I of Navarre and following his death in 1274 acted as Regent for their daughter Queen Jeanne I of Navarre.
In 1276 Blanche was married to Edmund Crouchback, Earl of Lancaster and Earl of Leicester the second son of Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence.
Blanche died at the Hôtel de Navarre in Paris and was buried at the now destroyed Couvent des Cordeliers de Paris.

Matilda was also Countess of Boulogne in her own right .Her mother was Princess Mary of Scotland the daughter of Malcolm III of Scotland and Margaret of Wessex .
The queen was buried at Faversham Abbey in Kent and was also the burial site for her husband King Stephen and their eldest son, Eustace IV of Boulogne.
The abbey was dissolved in 1538 and largely torn down ,the royal vault was unearthed in 1964 and the tombs discovered but sadly they were empty.

The proxy wedding of James V and Marie de Guise took place in France.
James V first wife Madeleine de France in 1537 and Marie's husband Louis II d'Orléans, duc de Longueville and comte de Dunois had alsp died too in 1537.
Following the arrival of Marie de Guise in Scotland in June 1537 the couple were married in person at St Andrews Cathedral.

The Bishop of Évreux crowned the new Queen of England the day after the wedding at the Chapel of St. George in Limassol, Cyprus in the presence of king Richard and his sister Joan,queen of Sicily.



Her younger sister Blanche of Navarre also became Countess of Champagne by her marriage to Theobald III, Count of Champagne in 1199 and her son later became King of Navarre as Theobald I of Navarre.
Blanche lived until March 1229 and was buried at L’abbaye d'Argensolles.

Berengaria of Navarre lived a year later and died in December 1230.

The duchess sadly died on the 12th of September 1368 aged just 22 and its believed she died of the Black Death.
The future Henry IV of England was their son.

27th of May 1541 : Execution of the Lady Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury

Lady Margaret Pole was the only surviving daughter of George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence and Isabel Neville and descended from Edward III.
Lady Margaret's mother died in 1476 and her father in 1478 and Margaret married Sir Richard Pole in 1487.
Lady Margaret later became a lady in waiting to Catherine of Aragon and some of her fathers lands were restored including the Salisbury title.Margaret was also made Governess to Princess Mary.
However Margaret later fell out of favour with Henry VIII due to her open support for Catherine of Aragon and Mary and her stern opposition to Anne Boleyn and the Reformation.In 1539 Margaret and many members of her family were arrested and put on trial ,her son Henry, Baron Montagu was executed.Lady Margaret herself went to the block in May 27th,1541 and her remains are buried in the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula within the Tower of London

Pope Leo XIII beatified her as a martyr for the Roman Catholic Church on the 29th of December 1886.
