Meghan Markle: Wedding Dress Suggestions and Musings

I still don't think Roland Mouret is going to be designing the gown. For the simple fact that he's not British.

Harry and Meghan's wedding is going to be "all about them" and basically everything before and after is for the firm so, for Meghan, this could be her last grand hurrah where she gets to wear the wedding gown she always dreamed of without any pressure to be a walking advert for a UK Couture House.

On a personal level, I have always thought that the dress should be about her and her dreams. For a start, she is not British, she is an American and she should be able to embrace that and express herself the way that makes her feel like the woman that Harry fell in love with and knock his socks off at the same time.

The way things are going i'm braced for a pair of Black 'pants' ...

Has anyone else noticed how bridal models are twice the length from the waist as normal models.

I hope Meghan and Kate stay away from anything Diana due to people who can't let it go. There are already too many people who make everything about Diana already.

Maybe it has already been mentioned (I haven't followed this thread at all), but I think Victoria Beckham could be a contender as a designer. She's British, a celebrity, a "friend. It would be a major score for VB.

My god, why did they make the bride walk all that way???

Does Beckham design wedding dresses?

:previous: I have never seen it suggested she is 'friends' with Harry or Meghan. They were invited to William's wedding because William and David have done events together for football.

The fact that she is a 'celebrity' may be a strike against her. Meghan is going to need a designer who can do a custom gown of the top quality for such an event. Victoria is not exactly a bridal designer.

A top score for a celebrity wouldn't be an aim of the bride.

And she cant express herself in British clothes :ermm:

Meghan doesn't have to wear an American designer, to dress in her style. She has in fact worn British designers in the past including Erdem and Marchessa. Even before she met Harry it was clear she liked some British designers. Since her engagement she has made a point of embracing British designers, and giving some notoriety to smaller fashion houses. I don't see her stopping this on her wedding day.

Her wedding is not her 'last hurrah' as an American. It is her introduction as a British royal.

Does Beckham design wedding dresses?

She had one line in 2014 that was all white, that some magazines suggested could be 'bridal'. They definitely were not meant that way. And would not meet most weddings not alone royal.

Myself I've never seen much out of Beckham that I care for....

I actually like those cigarette pants dresses. I don't think Meghan has the legs or the stature to make such a garment look like anything but a joke.

Pretty much the same dress she wore the first time, without straps.

Don't even know what dress you are talking about....without a link? There's been a lot of dresses posted here that I've commented on.

I found this dress just skimming through looking for a "Cinderalla" type wedding dress and this is my favorite one. I think it would suit Meghan. Its simple enough in the design yet very feminine and has a very romantic feel to it that would suit St. George's chapel.

I think this dress is beautiful but as others have said it does remind me a little of Catherine's dress, there would be a lot of comparisons between the two. Well; there will be anyway, but even more so if Meghan chose something like this.

Hmmm not sold on either one. I don't care for the top of either...or the bow on the back of the one ...but I like the skirts.

Hello All

I'm fairly new here but just wanted to add some suggestions to the beautiful dresses proposed.

Dress 1 (bateau neckline & A-Line skirt) - https://www.magbridal.com/p-marvelous-satin-bateau-neckline-ball-gown-wedding-dress-69126.html
I think this is simple but would look amazing with a dramatic veil and the right tiara.

Dress 2 (bateau neck & ballgown skirt) - My personal favorite https://www.instagram.com/p/BdAzUPbnJ0H/
This gown is so perfect and I see it has been mentioned previously. Just wanted to put in another vote for this design with maybe a bejewelled veil.

Dress 3 (Krikor Jabotian - This is what I think of when I think of a royal princess's wedding gown) https://i.pinimg.com/564x/e7/14/8e/e7148e051c3727019b4a600c0cdfcd2f.jpg

Dress 4 (Elie Saab - this type of dress is a wildcard based on the minimalism that MM prefers but she has stated her love for the designer and did say she liked whimsical wedding dresses, so who knows) https://www.instagram.com/p/BTHeyiIljpf/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elements that I think would work perfectly -

Bold embellishments strategically used like this - https://i.pinimg.com/originals/cf/2b/bc/cf2bbcb602e7bd29a82c255566cf567c.jpg
https://i.pinimg.com/564x/25/6f/13/256f135bb01035f4eff9ccc9b1609385.jpg

A structured neckline, skirt and train:
https://i.pinimg.com/564x/17/23/b3/1723b3365d8cfc6ea91d2ebc784d5e84.jpg
Nothing as elaborate as this but the effect is beautiful and can be scaled down for a train -
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/11/5a/99/115a999c7e5c1a61b77a871f59e2628b.jpg

Contrasting embellishment/ unusual colour - These two go hand in hand and it would be so great to see a different colour in a Royal wedding dress for once. A pale blush or the slightest, iciest blue with metallic beading for instance. If done tastefully and in a light-handed way, this could be so stunning. Think Stephanie of Lannoy and her silver dress.

And finally, a dramatic veil if the dress is on the simpler side -

Hello and welcome. You certainly have a well thought out selection there. I laughed when I saw the Batteau Neck gorgeous gown that seems to be a something that we all come back to.

It's sort of like we OD on sugar and need a fresh, crisp bite. So much lace and embellishments, embroideries, you name it we've looked at it. And then we come back to that utterly gorgeous gown.

I will be interested to see how close any of us get to what Meghan actually wears.

While the dresses are beautiful they seem too far on the 'Disney fairy tale princess' spectrum.

Meghan has said she likes more modern. I don't see her wearing gowns that are drowning in embelishments like many of those.

Wow, that’s quite a variety! I really like the first gown for Eugenie (think she would look nice in that). You should put that on her thread too IMO. Thanks for posting. Look forward to more and a big welcome.

Wow Elie Saab s wedding gowns are stunning to say the least and so are Ralph and Russo s .

I hope Meghan goes all out for her wedding gown . I mean this is History in the making ! No need to scale down for this occasion !!!

But looking at her choices so far at public engagements Im afraid to put up my hopes a lit !

Elie Saab's stuff is so samey though, every dress is just a very slightly different version of the one before it. If you've seen one Elie Saab dress then you've more or less seen them all - very nice but not amazing.

Several of the dresses have been posted here already....most of us feel anything super fitted is out due to the stair and curtesy element.

I don't see her wearing anything super busy, lots of lacy elements, feathers etc. If she sticks with her usual style of clothing it's most likely going to be simple/elegant along the lines of the second dress with the button sleeves which has been posted before here...and reminds me of the Pronovias gown we have seen here too. It is gorgeous.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I hope that I can add something positive to the discussion :flowers:

@MARG! I am also excited to see how close we are to getting it right. At this point, we've suggested such a wide variety of options that somewhere along the line, at least one of the dresses will be close to the chosen gown. We'll pat ourselves on the back then :D

@Countessmeout - You're so right. I also don't see Meghan in an overly frilly, princessy dress but then I recall that comment about liking whimsical wedding dresses and look at the gown she chose for her engagement shoot and I'm a bit thrown off. Maybe she'll decide to go against her usual aesthetic as this is a once-in-a-lifetime event. But like you, I also see something on the simpler side should she stick to her usual taste.

@miss Jersey - I didn't notice it before but Dress 1's silhouette would be flattering to Eugenie indeed. It would definitely flatter her hourglass shape.

@Rhea6 - That's what I'm hoping too Rhea, re: MM going all-out for this unique event. Her engagement gown has shown us that she can surprise us but her recent fashion choices have been a little underwhelming.

@PetticoatLane - That's a good point. All floaty light material, ballgown silhouette and raised floral-type embellishments. But they're still so pretty I find.

I've put together some simpler, structured gowns with minimal adornment that may be more MM's usual style.

This with maybe a few more pearls (slightly reminiscent of Diana's Elvis white outfit) - https://www.bestbridalprices.com/images/pronovias/2015/large/Marialis.jpg

How lovely is this for the evening dinner - https://www.praisewedding.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/08-Rosa-Clara-2.jpg

P.S. As a change of pace and because I have this creeping suspicion that the girl may just shock us all, take a look at this completely over-the-top Ralph & Russo wedding gown.

P.P.S - The colour and style of these bridesmaid dresses are a classy option, IMO (maybe with a higher back) https://i.pinimg.com/564x/d2/e2/b6/d2e2b65c8d6b02b76d117fe2a42a01be.jpg

It pays to be sceptical of bookmakers in what is a small market, wagers on royal events, but bookie Paddy Power says it has suspended betting on Meghan’s wedding dress designer after a flurry of bets on McQueen.
