I don't think we are likely to see a full lace dress.

Here is a lovely wedding dress with long sleeves by Philippa Lepley. Might this be a possibility for Meghan?

I'm hoping for a more slimming profile of a dress. :flowers: Hoping not for a big dress. It seems (based on her first wedding dress) that that would be her preference. Not necessarily figure hugging, but something with a nice drape. No big skirts.

Maybe the second link. The first one is too much lace and the third one is way to fussy/busy although I like the shape.

LaRae

This is the shape I think Meghan will likely favor. :flowers:

These are too bell-shaped. Now Meghan may totally opt to follow suit with this kind of gown but I am hoping not. ;)

The second batch is merely modified A-line. She's getting married in a church that can fit 800. The more sheath like dress isn't going to do it. Although, I don't see her in the third dress at all. Not because of the size, but everything on the dress.

Why not? I don't see the reasoning.

The dress has to have enough presence to hold it's own against the setting. Also, she has to curtesy so I don't think there will be anything very fitted from the waist down.

LaRae

Again, the church hold 800. It's a big church. She'll be lost in it if her dress is sheath like.

I disagree. :flowers: Sophie of Wessex had a very sheath-like dress and it worked fine. JMO.

I HATED Sophie’s dress. It was just so... odd looking. I couldn’t even get to the sheath like part.

While I didn't like Sophie's dress, you're correct, her dress had a very sheath like style and she didn't get 'lost' in the church. Many royal brides have had more streamlined gowns even in grander churches. You don't need a full skirt to fill up an aisle. Many used trains and veils, to give more presence.

Beyond Sophie, royals like Letizia, Mathilde and Silvia all come to mind.

As long as its not skin tight, not going to make it impossible to curtsey.

There is one pattern in these dresses, they are made of heavier material and pattern as opposed to the more modern designs, as did Sophie’s top. Meghan is far more of a whimsical and lighter material type of girl. With that type of material, it gives a lighter feel and doesn’t look as weight down, but you’d also need more of an A line or it’ll be too slinky.

Exactly so. :flowers:

While I never really got into Letizia's wedding dress, I have been appreciating the structured aspect of the collar. :flowers:
I've been thinking this would be an interesting style for Meghan.

There have been many modern sheath style wedding dresses suggested on this thread that certainly weren't 'slinky'.

Hoping not for lace, or too much, but many more 'modern' gowns with streamline without being 'slinky'

Some top designers, like Bruce Oldfield, make some beautiful classic gowns with a sheath style to them.

Actually either of these two designs could look good on Meghan since I perceive her to be quite petite and too full a skirt may overwhelm her.

I think it's mainly the collar design on both gowns that I'm keen on for Meghan, because I think it is here that the design interest of the gown will be.

Just don't think we are going to see a fitted dress like that/those.

I don’t think so either. While Meghan isn’t as tall as Kate, she’s not petite in the true sense of the word. An A line gown isn’t going to overwhelm her. Don’t think we are going to see a full ball gown, but there is going to be more than sheath.

Perhaps slinky wasn’t the right word for. I kept trying to think before posting it, but couldn’t find the right word. While I love these gowns, I just don’t think they would hold up well for St. George.

Whatever she wears needs to have presence without wearing her.

I am thinking we will see some sort of modified A Line to perhaps even a standard A Line.

The wow will be in the design/details.

LaRae

Based on how she looked in that boatneck jacket today - she definitely needs to consider a boatneck style neckline.

LOL '...and she's mine' .... interesting!

Ok first off I hope no one spoils the surprise of finding out who the designer is on the wedding day.

Secondly I REALLY REALLY want to see a boatneck with the delicate collar bones exposed like in this blazer/top today. It really does look perfect on her.

Yes. Satin boat neckline top with a tulle skirt to give it a bit of airiness and a belt in A-line style. Perhaps a bit of embelishment belt and on the skirt.

I am of the exact same opinion and therefore I am very careful now about being enthusiastic about how Meghan will appear. I have been disappointed too much with royal brides.

*That* is what I don't want to see at all. What a letdown that was (for me).

I agree with this - although if a gown has some amazing architectural details that bring drama then okay. But I think a boatneck gown with 3/4 sleeves, a modified a-line skirt with a very dramatic train and some crystal/embroidery embellishment on the shoulders going partly down the sleeves would be pretty...

That gown one of the British designers drew - the one with beaded lined cutouts in creamy white? Ugh - let me find and link it - would be gorgeous...

And back: https://www.popsugar.com/fashion/photo-gallery/44440026/image/44440031/Back-Dress

Of course, the back would need to be modified for modesty - but I really like this dress... It's hard to tell from the sketch though - but those sleeves aren't lace to me - they are a sheer net with beading and delicate embroidery.

Disregard all the lace....love the neckline and sleeve.

Hmmm I kinda like this, little less lace ...really could work, love the back.

Mmmmm too plain still and the neckline needs to be more straight across not as rounded. A scoop back would work well though...if they can work it where it stays up.

Yeah a neckline like that would be really nice. It'll be in May so people are getting excited for the summer and starting to dress like it. A neckline like that would be more towards the summery vibe without the typical open back or sheer applique top
