The Swedish Royal Court has already announced the King and Queen will attend the coronation.

Could you please share the link of the announcement? I probably have missed it as I don't recall any official announcement from any royal house.:flowers:

Quite strangely Margaretha Thorgren, head of the Royal Press Office, told Aftonbladet that the plan is for the King and Queen to attend the coronation. I do wonder if it's a misquote since it'd be against European royal tradition. I've always expected for Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel to go.

I hope they will keep the Tradition of not inviting foreign reigning monarchs for the coronation.

As protocol is based on length of service as the Head of State you would have Charles as the most minor reigning monarch present at his own coronation. This is an internationally accepted protocol involving monarchies and republics. It is why Heads of State don't attend each others' coronations, enthronements or inaugurations.

Well, at the Japanese Enthronement there were several Heads of State, to be honest. However, I agree with you.

Maybe the Swedish Royal Couple are attending some events during those days, but not the Coronation Service itself.

There seems to be a different tradition in Japan given that there were several monarchs at the enthronement of Emperor Akihito as well

The original plan was a private service in the private chapel with not larger blessing at all. Then it was realised that would open up Windsor to all weddings and a public wedding wasn't going to be accepted by the public so the civil service and public blessing was the final solution.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this.

I do not think a religious wedding service was ever planned It was always meant to be a civil wedding followed by a blessing at St George's. The venue of the civil service had to shift to Windsor Guildhall.

It wasnt. They planned a civil wedding at Windsor but that would mean that it would have to be licenced and htat would make it open to anyone who wanted to get married there. So they had to marry at the Guildhall.

Thanks JR76:flowers:!

Anyway I still don't expect monarchs will attend (maybe except Monaco which Albert attended both the Dutch inauguration and Japanese enthronement). Naruhito's enthronement was attended by monarchs but it seems that Japan has their own different protocol and it's how they've always done, as Akihito's enthronement was also attended by monarchs. For British coronation the other royal house always send the heirs (or the spouses?) and I assume they will continue doing so (unless the invitation strictly writes "only monarchs are allowed :D).

Who would go from Spain if it's only heirs? Also I don't think the Princess of Orange or the Duchess of Brabant have much experience at big events to go instead of their parents.

If it's only heir and the heir isn't old enough (or no direct heir), the sibling of the monarch maybe the closest and most possible option, at least it's someone on the succession line, e.g. Albert of Belgium attended QEII's coronation to represent his brother King Baudouin, so Elena for Spain, Astrid for Belgium and Constantijn for the Netherlands. But it's possible that the consorts will represent their spouses, just like Bernhard of the Netherlands represented Queen Juliana. The abdicated monarchs/spouse maybe another option too but personally I think it's the last option and they'll attend only when both the heir and spouse are unavailable.

For Elisabeth and Catharina-Amalia, I wish they will attend together with their mother.

The Swedish Press Office is quite famous for ”stopping by - saying things - walk away” and then having to correct things later so i would take that breef ”it’s the plan” statement by Margaretha Thorgren with a grain of salt until a formal announcment is made, wich i don’t expect yet for a couple of months…

Not sure I still think Leonor is too young for such an event and the other option would be Queen Sofia or the Infanta Elena.

The late Infanta Pilar represented Spain at the Investiture of Queen Beatrix in 1980.

Is Elena still involved in public life?

I’d prefer Queen Sofia over Infanta Elena.
I don’t want to see her small and unimpressive Marichalar tiara again at another most important royal event.
Also, Infanta Elena is now a private citizen basically. She literally has a daily job in a private foundation.

If monarchs’ siblings attend, I guess us jewelry-lovers will be let down.

Elena can still borrow jewels from her mother who has the better jewel chest in the SFR!

In Monaco Prince Jacques obviously couldn't go so it would be Caroline. On the other hand Albert isn't a King, he's a Sovereign Prince, so it may be that he would still qualify to attend himself as he wouldn't be senior to Charles. I think he attended the Dutch inauguration for the same reason.

If the Sovereign Prince of Monaco is unavailable then his consort of sister the Princess of Hanover would be the next option.

Absolutely but I'm referring to whether Albert would qualify to attend in the first place and I think he would as he's not a King. As an aside, I can't imagine that anyone invited to this event will be unavailable unless there was a very serious reason for it. It's going to be magnificent.

I am wondering if Caroline is invited as The Princess of Hanover. The Hanovers and The BRF are quite related, IIRC. Maybe she’ll get an invitation anyway. It would be nice :)

I suppose it's possible as she and her husband didn't divorce.

I think where the heirs are not just ready to attend such events on their own (Elizabeth, Leonor, C-A), they may attent with their respective mothers or grand mothers. Alternatively, the countries could be rrepresented by the consorts, or the previous Queen.

I doubt Caroline will be invited as the Princess of Hanover but as the representative of the Princely House of Monaco.
The Princess of Hanover also has the best jewel in the Principality.

Yes if Albert doesn't attend but I think he will.
