Queen Margrethe looks fantastic. Ans standing up, last time she participated with the Crown Prince family she sat I think the whole time.

I'm glad the King's Family and her can still enjoy Grasten for parts of the summer.

A nice article and story about Frederik and a special connection with the Grasten area.
"Almost 40 years ago, King Frederik forged a very special friendship with a local married couple in Sønderborg.
And at the relocation of the residence to Gråsten, he had a touching reunion with the now 78-year-old Helga Thaysen, who during the king's military days ran the Havnegrillen opposite Sønderborg Kaserne with her now deceased husband, Bent."

what a lovely story! Glad that she was able to be there to greet him as he and Queen Mary arrived in Grasten. I also love the comment about him not getting any special treatment. Par of the course with King Frederik - he never seeks nor expects to be treated any differently than any one else just because of who he is.

That must have been when he went to NCO school that at least at that time was located in in the town of Sønderborg.

Article from BB...apparently Vincent and Josephine have been entertaining friends at Grasten. It seems the locals and local media have reported seeing a bouncy house set up on the grounds.

"In the middle of the Southern Jutland part of the summer holidays, Crown Prince Christian, who became a student just before the holidays, came to visit to spend some time with his parents in Gråsten.

"During their stay at Graasten Castle, King Frederik and Queen Mary spent a few days in Skagen, where Crown Prince Christian held a student party.""

That must have been during "Hellerup-week". Week #29.
That's the week in July each year where the young affluent offspring of even more affluent parents who live in the very affluent neighborhoods north of Copenhagen migrate to Skagen to party and there take the opportunity to mingle with the very same people they mingle with on a daily basis. The locals look on with a mixture of resignation and disbelief - while they ruthlessly fleece their Copenhagener guests.
It's quite a weird phenomenon actually. They embark on this annual migration to Skagen of all places to (very loudly) show off their new designer watches, shoes, cars and what not, while they order champagne, lobster and oysters ad libitum at totally overinflated prices and they know it, but it's a part of showing off.
So anyone with a little bit of sense (especially if you, like most Jutlanders, have a wallet made of moleskin = never see the light of day = rarely pulled out) stay clear of Skagen during that week.
That is. Hellerup Week has over the years actually become a bit of an attraction, Jutlanders, seasoned Germans and holiday residents from nearby towns (but not Norwegian tourists. They are all stinking rich up there anyway and as they are not used to endless horizons, visiting Norwegians tend to walk around aimlessly during daylight hours, around 19 hours at that time of year) often make a day trip to Skagen to marvel and shake their heads at the silly Copenhageners who spend money like there is no tomorrow and pay full price for everything, both being considered blasphemous in Jutland, especially in that part of Jutland!
I imagine this symbiosis will interest anthropologists.

A few mood photos.
First the town of Skagen itself:
Then normal tourists and guests outside Hellerup Week:
And during Hellerup Week. The keen-eyed among you will notice a slight change in attire, accessories and vehicles.

It seems rather complicated to spend time in Skagen DURING their stay at Grasten; it is about 400 km from each other (Skagen the most northern part of Jutland and Grasten completely in the south). They might have left Grasten to spend time in Skagen (and might have come back afterwards...)

All in all, these (upper class) traditions don't sound attractive in any way. I thought Denmark prided itself in begin egalitarian but that doesn't seem to be the case. They seem to have a very close-knit upper class who live their lives mostly separately from the other Danish (although the unhealthy high school celebrations might be more wide-spread).

It was reported by the locals that Christian did spend time in Grasten with his parents. At least was spotted. Then they probably took off to Skagen, as they have for years and years.
Sorry the quoted above is Google translate so yeah.
We often hear about the family spending time elsewhere in Denmark. Christian and Isabella have been at the music festivals.
All sounds very cozy.

This summer does not sound any different than any other summer holiday for them really. It is not like they literally disappear from say July to September or anything. Nor do they retreat to secluded estates somewhere with crafted PR and set up photo ops. Hope they kids are enjoying their traditional summer outings.

I guess this summer is a bit different in that Christian graduated from high school, they did a Greenland tour and have to attend the Olympics (it might be a nice part of the job but they still have to factor it in in their summer holiday plans). And of course, it's their first summer as reigning king and queen.

What a wonderful surprise! That M&F are still at Gråsten and that they've been joined by Gustav, Carina and their adorable kids. So nice to get a first glimpse of little Mafalda!
It sure is.
At long last they got the life and children they wished for.

Well the E45 is almost door to door in regards to Gråsten and Skagen, so they can be there in 3-3½ hours non-stop. That could be a night somewhere in the general area of Skagen and back again.
As for the show-offs. It is actually a bit unattractive when you think of it, but at least they spend big money locally.
While the Law of Jante (the Tall Poppy Syndrome codified) does exist in DK it's nowadays not nearly as pronounced as in Sweden and certainly Norway, so here you are allowed to flaunt your wealth and success - just do it with style and a good degree of self-deprecation.

Both of you: That's the great thing.
Even though they are now King and Queen, and it's the first year of their reign, they are still able - and allowed by the public - to go under the radar and just vanish in the crowd.
They still don't attract crowds as is they were Martians.
