I found from TT News Agency this photo of queen Maxima getting aboard Valentino's luxury yacht
Pic

The Vanitatis article isn't 100% correct on the details. As it seems the King and at least Alexia was also present.

Thanks Alisa! In that case I will have to eat my own words as it could not have been on the same day the King was attending the pre-Olympic ceremony. A good lesson not to myself to take a step back and resist the temptation to conclude things in haste.

Ah, at least the Queen knows where her priorities are.

Although indeed she will be at the Olympics a lot of days, the optics are simply not great. Esp. combined with her absence from the MH17 remembrance and esp. as this jetset image is one of the reasons why their popularity has tanked as much as it did.

I really wish they would hire more competent PR people at the palace - and listen to them.
The Princess of Orange's absence from the MH17 remembrance is even more worrying ,she's the future Dutch Monarch and should have been at her fathers side.

Photos of the Dutch Royal Family on vacation in Greece.

Máxima was a weekend in Saint Tropez with friends.

It seems one of the ladies on the boat -without the sunglasses- could be her friend Janneke Dreesmann-Beerkens. Married into the billionaire Dreesmann family, lawyer, boardmember of the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam and mother of 6. She and her husband Marc are one of the neighbours in Greece and Amalia is living in one of their properties in Amsterdam.

She and her husband are living in Brasschaat, near Antwerp. Many rich Dutch people do for tax reasons.

I do not recognise the other one, with the sun glasses. Could it be her Argentine friend Samantha Deane, Bss Rengers married into the Dutch noble Van Welderen family - with a new hair colour? Or maybe simply somebody else.

Can’t blame her for going south, the weather has been awful. And as these photos will not be published in the Netherlands, they will have little effect on her image at home.

Why won't they published in Netherland? Man could not get this newspaper there? And why would be this bad for her image? Other women can make also such trips, why could not she make this?

They certainly will not. The magazines are afraid to lose their access to the RF photo shoots and fear the law suits that will inevitable follow due to the media code etc.

Amazing that this media code still holds the local magazines hostages, what do they fear? The girls are almost adults/not living at home anymore, there are something like two boring photoshoots per year, most of the time not even the complete family.
Its the only RF who does these luxury holidays/jet set lifestyle so very frequently, how convenient from them to basically have a gag order over the local media.

During photo sessions the king, queen and three princesses are always present, so I don't understand your comment that most of the time the complete family isn't present.

Privacy laws are quite strict in the Netherlands. There is a general understanding -under Dutch law- that private pictures are not to be published (but in practice can be taken if you encounter members of the royal family somewhere) and if they are published can be challenged in court - where a judge will consider whether it was sufficiently in the public interest to outweigh their right to privacy in their private lives.

Based on the media code, I believe the media are free to write or talk about their travels etc but if they also publish pictures, the royal family made it known that those media won't be given the opportunity to participate in the photo calls. If they do publish, they loose access and might be challenged in court (as in the end, it is up to the court to allow or not allow the publication of such pictures).

Evert Santegoeds, editor of the biggest gossip magazine, once said that the lack of access to the photo sessions wasn't the only concern indeed. The costly legal cases are another one. It simply doesn't make financial sense. Printed press doesn't have the same revenue it had in the 1990s and they simply can't afford those cases and the headache.

So that means that for Orange-Nassau updates we seem to be better served by the Spanish/Argentine press than by our own.

The question is of course: does it matter?

It may matter in the end, to me - and I believe younger people/tougher times will even speed up this process - monarchy is not there to live a jet set life in the face of their subjects and more or less dictate the media what to do, hiding behind 'privacy'. The same issue has already dealt a blow to the DRF, whose approval rates have gone down especially after the greek holiday scandal. Its about the mindset. It may not matter in my lifetime, but in the end it is possible that such antics will speed up the process of abolishment. Maybe they dont even care, they are rich enough to enjoy the money without having to work inbetween holidays.

I am a little surprised why the Queen spending a few days in the sun on a private break is a big deal at all. All of us do it, from time to time. Fred & Mary disappear from time to time, as do Queen Camilla and King Charles. I just do not see it as an issue.
