King Willem-Alexander Current Events 4: Aug 2023 -

The last audience IF the new government is installed at all and does not crumble before they make it to the ceremony ;). So far the King only had one prime minister, who gave him some freedom. The PM to-be is an unknown high ranking civil servant. It is not very likely he will last very long but we will see and perhaps will be surprised.

The departing PM Rutte will be secretary genera of NATO so the king will see him every now and than. Next year The Hague will be hosting a NATO summit and I imagine leaders will be received at the palace.

That must have been a pretty special moment for both of them...

Apparently, the new PM/government had to be convinced that the installation of the new government cannot take place next Monday as it is Keti Koti (he called it 'Tikkie ehhh' when he had to explain why it was on Tuesday instead of Monday) - while not an official holiday, it is the day on which the abolition of slavery is remembered each year in the Netherlands (and former colonies). It's become more and more recognized over the years (last year the king presented 'official apologies'); as is evidenced by the presence of the 'old' government at the main event in Amsterdam with 10 of its members(!). It is suggested that the king also made it known that it was preferable not to plan the installation on the 1st of July - although sources close to the Palace claim it was no official refusal (had the new PM insisted).

A nice idea to showcase these pieces, which are to far away to look normally.
