The Royal Run: 2019-2025

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I wonder if Christian will go solo this year and perhaps cover a run on his own.

Updates on the Royal Run, for the first time Christian will run in his "own city". Previous times have been in Copenhagen with his siblings.

"When Royal Run takes place, His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Crown Prince will participate
The king begins the running party in Fredericia and afterwards will participate in Aarhus and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg.
The Queen also participates in the Royal Run, when Her Majesty starts in Kalundborg, while the Crown Prince is now taking an even bigger part in the Royal Run when His Royal Highness is running with Brønderslev."

"HRH The Crown Prince comes to North Jutland
Since the beginning of 2018, the entire Royal Family has shown great commitment to the Royal Run, but for the first time the Crown Prince takes a larger part in the Royal Run when he goes to Brønderslev and runs in the company of the 9,000 registered participants in North Jutland. This is something that arouses great excitement in the city:

"It is really big for us that the Crown Prince is coming to Brønderslev to take part in the Royal Run. We promise that we will probably have to buckle down to give him a good experience on his first trip out of the country in this way," says mayor of Brønderslev Municipality, Mikael Klitgaard (V).

The royals' participation in the Royal Run will take place as follows:

HM the King starts the Royal Run in Fredericia
HRH The Crown Prince participates in the Royal Run in Brønderslev
HM The King participates in the Royal Run in Aarhus
HM The Queen participates in the Royal Run in Kalundborg
HM The King participates in the Royal Run in Copenhagen/Frederiksberg"

Crown Prince Frederik has presented this year's Royal Run t-shirt:

In less than 100 days, Royal Run '24 will take place, and this year's T-shirt will be shown here by His Majesty the King 💙95,000 participants line up for the start, and the plan is for a bang of an exercise party across the country. The Royal Run takes place on Whitsun 2 in Fredericia, Brønderslev, Aarhus, Kalundborg and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg.

"Royal Run Danmark elaborates that this is about the message "Together we can do more than we think", which is written on the back, and which is to remind the runners of their achievement."

A great message. Every year there are more and more first time participants.

"A historic goal portal 😃👑👏🏻
Wow! Now there is another good reason to look forward to the Royal Run in Copenhagen!
As in previous years, Amalienborg is the destination for our 10 km, 5 km and One mile distances. But this time we are taking the tradition to new heights with a goal portal that oozes history and elegance.🙏🏻
The finish line itself will be in the historic Colonnade, which is the colonnade that connects Christian IX's mansion and Christian VII's mansion. The colonnade was built in 1794 so that the King and Crown Prince could then move between the two mansions without having to go outside.
The colonnade has since witnessed centuries of history, and now it is waiting to pay tribute to our 42,500 participants in Copenhagen on 20 May. 💙🎉"

The whole thing is made form painted wood. It was probably a bit too expensive at the time to make it of stone. But it's such a charming detail that they have kept it that way.
It connects QMII's residence with the guest-mansion and it happens that she pops across via the colonnade rather than venture outside across the square. Much less commotion as well.

Spectacular arrival at Royal Run in Fredericia
😃

👑

When H.M. the King opens this year's exercise party, it will be with arrival in the most beautiful way possible with the Royal Ship Dannebrog, which will be in swing off Øster Strand.
The king runs the first tour of the day in the historic fortress city, before the tour continues towards Aarhus, after which the day will be finished in Copenhagen/Frederiksberg.
👟
🎉

Thanks, Polyesco.

A minor correction and I'm not surprised Google translate missed this seldom heard word outside the navy: Svaj = at anchor, close from shore.

I love they use they royal yacht for events like this. Not only an impressive entrance but a great treat for all the people there!

"See the program for the royals participation at the Royal Run on the 20th of May.

H.K.H. The Crown Prince arrives at North Jutland Sports School in Brønderslev around 11 a.m

  • HM The King ends the day by running 10 km in Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. The king arrives approx. at 19.

Very cute video if what it's all about young and old participating.

More than 95,000 take part in this year's Royal Run on the 2nd Whitsunday. This is the highest number ever.

In January, the organizers behind the race put 7,500 extra starting numbers on sale for the already sold-out race. The extras sold out in a few hours.

Amazing. It breaks it's own record year over year! I'm starting to wonder if they will have to add cities going forward.

This number of participants is almost like the Los Angeles, New York and Boston marathons combined.

King Frederik can be proud of what this event, born out of a way to include the Danes in celebrating his 50th birthday, has become.

Indeed.
With a population of now 5.9 million, 95.000 constitute around 1.7 % or so of the entire population.

So to put into perspective:
The population of USA is 334.000.000 - so an American Royal Run would see around 5.6 million participants.
In Australia with a population of 27 million that would translate to around 460.000 participants.
Or UK with a population of around 67 million (My, you sure have increased your population!) that would be around 1.1 million runners.
- So yes, no matter what yardstick you use that can only be described as a success.

The Muhler family, Mrs. Muhler and I, my in-laws and our daughter with her sweetheart (these two young couch-potatoes will be walking with us), will take part in the 5 km run in Aarhus tomorrow with King Frederik. Probably way back though as we intend to walk. After all my in-laws are both retirees, but they don't consider walking 5 km a problem. They routinely walk several kms every day checking the local landscape and the neighbors.

I take it 20th is a holiday in Denmark otherwise it seems an odd day to do it, just after a weekend.

It is the 'Second Day of Pentecost'/Whit Monday - it seems the Danish and the Dutch have a lot of customs and traditions in common.

Interesting! What a good way to spend a public holiday.

Correct, we have a number of additional holydays that doesn't exist in say UK.
Tomorrow is the Second Day of Whit sun.
Then we have the Second Day of Easter, which is also a Monday.
And the Second Day of Christmas, which is the 26th December.

Could be interesting to make a comparison, so here is a list of holydays/holidays in DK:
1st January.
Easter Sunday and Easter Monday (Second Day of Easter).
Whit sun Sunday (what we call Pinse) and the Second Day of Whit sun.
Good Friday, what we call Long Friday because Christ lingered on the cross for that long day. It's BTW the holiest day of the year. As such all flags must fly at half mast all day, regardless of any other celebration. If King Frederik's B-day somehow happened to be on that day, the flags would still fly at half mast.
The Thursday before Good Friday is also a holyday in celebration of the Last Supper.
Ascension Day, always a Thursday.
1st May, although you pay for that day yourself, but it's still a day off for most employees.
Constitution Day on 5th June. (Which is a celebration of the democracy rather than a national day.)
Christmas Eve on the 24th December is not a holyday as such, but for most it is now a holiday and most shops will be closed.
First and Second Day of Christmas on the 25th and 26th December are very much holydays though.
New Years Eve is not a holyday but a holiday for most, again with most shops closed.

On top of that comes week #7, which is the school winter holiday. And week #42 which is the autumn holiday for schools.
In addition to the six week school summer holiday starting in late June and ending in early August. - But that of course only applies to students and pupils.

Then there are some additional annual flag-days.
9th April, where the flags fly at half mast until noon, marking the Occupation in 1940.
5th May, celebrating the Liberation.
The birthday of the Monarch.
15th June is Valdemar Day, celebrating the day Dannebrog fell from the sky in 1219. That day is incidentally also the Devil's Birthday and the mortgages are due on that day, and just as with mortgages the Devil celebrate his birthday twice a year...
And the 5th September, Flag Day, in celebration of people serving abroad or who have served abroad.
- And then the b-days of the adult and working members of the DRF. Which means neither Count Nikolai and Count Felix nor Count Ingolf's b-days are marked.

How do they know when the devil’s birthday is and why does he get two?

How great that you and your family are participating. Best of luck!

That's just how it is.
It's very old folklore ergo it must be an undeniable fact.

We are leaving for Aarhus soon.
The weather is fantastic! A perfect summer day in my eyes.
The temperature will reach 22-24 degrees, bright and sunny with a light breeze. Just right for walking and not that hot for running. But the running bit we will leave to others.

Wonderful! A group of conscripts will he running in Frederica along with King Frederik. They've chosen to do it in full uniform!
We do this to show the king and the outside world our community and that we are together for something bigger.

DRF Instagram has posted a photo of the King on his way to Frederica

Frederik has arrived in Frederica

I wonder if Christian will go solo this year and perhaps cover a run on his own.
