The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Family, News and Events 10: August 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I’ve never heard of Harry getting a tattoo, and I’ve been taking notice of his affairs since he was nineteen. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t got one though and people have just kept quiet about it.

I think you are correct. I believe he said in “Spare” that he once wanted to get one of Botswana while he was on that infamous Las Vegas trip but his friends and security stopped him, recognizing he wasn’t in the right frame of mind for decision making.

The best thing about those photos of him going into the tattoo parlor are how, after the way he snidely mocked William for his baldness in his book "Spare" they highlight the fact that Harry has not one single hair on the top of his head. It's a vast expanse of pink skin up there. I don't care that Harry is bald, I am as well, it's the sweet karma of it all that I'm drawing attention to here.

Nowadays in the western world there isn't anything wrong with tattoos as such (depending on the subject and use in specific cultures), didn't P.Philip have an interest in them (i think i remember reading he asked someone about their tattoos)?
Also i think K.George V had a tattoo?

But yes, to get them it's wise to be aware what you're doing, so good for Harry having good friends at the time to prevent it, if he wasn't

Perhaps the BP people did not ask Boris to have a chat with Harry. Maybe he realised it was futile. Sky news in 2020 did however report that Harry and the PM spoke for about 20 minutes alone on that day, after the UK-Africa conference.

And the paragraph below from the Telegraph is quite vague.
‘Boris Johnson was not asked by Buckingham Palace to try and persuade Prince Harry to stay in the UK, The Telegraph understands.’
‘Understands’, not ‘we were told by a spokesperson.’

As far as royals with tattoos are concerned, the only senior royal I can think of, besides George V, was Queen Daisy’s father King Frederik of Denmark who had tattoos on his forearm. He, George V and Prince Philip were all naval officers though, and in their time it was primarily sailors who had tattoos. Princess Eugenie does have a very small one near her ear, I believe.

Boris and the truth don’t mix, do they?
I could say things like ‘when you are baited into lying to Parliament and then don’t resign about that but end up getting forced out over a different damaging set of lies…’ or ‘when you start your career as a journalist and are sacked for making something up’... (The sad thing is his great-grandfather was lynched as a journalist for writing the truth about something very dangerous and controversial... BJ seems to have gotten the wrong moral lesson, unsurprisingly.) There’s a hilarious Youtube video about him called Fight For Your Right (to Party) that I won’t post here, but features QEII(!), other lies, and makes the point more entertainingly.

If he told me the sky was blue, I’d check.

Report from Sky News from Jan 20th 2020 on private meeting between PM Boris Johnson and Prince Harry.

Interesting quote from that speech,

“ I will always have the utmost respect for my grandmother, my commander in chief, and I am incredibly grateful to her and the rest of my family, for the support they have shown Meghan and I over the last few months.”

This grammatical error always grates - should be “Meghan and me…”
He’s not the only royal to make it.
To be honest it wasn’t the grammar that took my attention. It was the turn around in what he said then to what he said later.

Frederik IX had heaps of tattoos and not just on his forearm(s), he also had a dragon on his chest.

His grandson, the current King Frederik, has two tattoos (IIRC).

I’d say he is probably getting himself a tattoo. Plenty of people have them (especially males but younger females do as well) and Harry probably decided to join them. It’s not illegal and it’s doubtful that people will ever see it.

And no, no, no members of the royal family ever swear in front of others, not even the Queen!

This is the Sussex thread, it is Harry that is being discussed.

Tom Sykes, the author of the article in The Daily Beast regarding the allegations of bullying the Duchess of Sussex, has written one for The Times. He noted how well Prince Harry's speech was received at the Clinton Foundation, but was then unfortunately overshadowed by the US Weekly article.

A well written article in my opinion. Harry did have a lovely speech and he seems to do better on his own than as a follower of his wife's initiatives. Let's hope this path continues for him.

I don’t think the author of this panegyric has seen the latest opinion polls with regard to “Diana’s boy”. They’re pretty consistent.

And I’m not sure either what he means by quasi-royal. Sounds a bit like half in half out & we know that’s a non-starter.

It never ceases to amaze me that supposedly prestigious newspapers like The Times & The Telegraph go on publishing this sort of guff. I can only think it’s because all the media, not just the tabloids, want to keep this silly drama on the boil in order to sell newspapers & garner clicks.

He’s not coming back because he doesn’t want to do the job. It really is that simple. It’s too mundane & not worthy of someone as important as him. At some point the media will get the message. Maybe then they’ll stop looking so silly.

He wouldn't be the first British royal with one. Didn't George V have one of more? From his time in the navy?

Yes apparently he did have one that he'd gotten in Japan. Reportedly it was a tiger and a red/blue dragon for both arms.

His father had Maltese crosses on his arm done in Jerusalem and apparently George had the same thing done. There are even rumors his mother Alexandra had a snake tattooed on her wrist.

Prince Harry’s engagement at WellChild, of which he has been Patron for 17 years went off so well. The children were of course, wonderful. The two little boys in the video, one singing to Harry, one wanting a cuddle holding out his arms, were especially adorable imo. And Harry was as ever, responsive to the terrific parents and children, chatting and smiling. I thought it was great. A fabulous engagement.

Prince Harry told the children and young people being recognised: "I salute you. We salute you. Thank you for your courage, your perseverance, your kindness, and of course your humour. And thank you for being you and uplifting all those around you.”

I love how Prince Harry is showing up in person for all these events. Shows his dedication and involvement to these causes that are important to him. Its not easy but it shows his sense of duty and obligation to these charities and also the global initiatives/conferences last week in NYC.

I've read that the polo series is filmed primarily in Wellington, Florida. That's the polo capital of the US. It's an extremely wealthy equestrian-based community. I don't think that the wealthier folks who spend time there want to be on film going about their "rich people" activities.

I have not read anything about Harry being in Wellington for filming. Maybe he's just a producer or narrator, hence why he's not in the promotional teasers.

Now that's something I've never seen on a sentence, Florida the polo capital of the USA. If you like sports and think of Florida we think of Football, baseball, golf and even Ice Hockey but not polo. We also think of staying away from any body of water because of the excessive number of alligators that can even climb fences to invite you for lunch.

But Polo it's like an elitist sport and the elite that supports it probably doesn't want the masses involved in it.
I still think the series will focus on Nacho's lifestyle to use this medium as his PR campaign. Out of the polo camps he's hardly known by anyone outside this sport.

Glad to see him by himself on these events and not as a dress and shoes accessory of the Duchess wife. He looks relaxed, engaged with everyone and at ease. If we recall, when Meghan is present, she establishes the timeline for him to move by grabbing him and then drags to another group she wants to meet.

Here he is free to be what he's known for, charming and talkative. Good for him to be without the handler on events that he likes to fully participate in.

Unpopular opinion:
I want Harry to come home to Britain. With OR without Meghan. He has left an open wound that hasn't healed. His rift with William is downright tragic. Charles would be so much happier.

I rarely post in the BRF threads now with the exception of Beatrice/Edo.

It just seems like the natural order of things in the British Royal Family has been breached.🙁

Harry is now in South Africa at the start of his visit. He had lunch with Princess Senate of Lesotho and she later posted a photo of them both together.

I too would like to see Harry back in the UK but he won’t come without Meghan and she will never return. The reconciliation with his father might occur if he returns briefly after this trip. Hope so.

Toledo, if you check Wellington on Google maps and look at the Wellington area south of Pierson Road, it's a bit mind-blowing. Just about every resident has their own polo field. There's dozens.
