The Duchess of Sussex's Maternity Fashion: October 2018 -

The skirt looks very lush but I don't know if I like the coat like this. It doesn't really fit perfectly at her shoulders with the way she is wearing it now.
That skirt reminds me of Letizia's white skirt on National Day. They are not exactly the same though. But they have a few similarities.

1) yes ALL black is used usually only for funerals, at least in most western countries I have ever lived or visited. (Edit: and memorial services services, best example Camilla’s black outfit today for the memorial service of the late Lord Carrington).

During my grandmother's time. Even my mother's generation have gotten over that. These days, people wear black to weddings.

I thought Meghan looked good today. I don't care for the uneven hem on the skirt but I don't like that style hem on anyone at anytime. I haven't made up my mind about the color of her shoes. To be honest, if it had been me I probably would have worn black shoes. I would however have worn a brooch or pearls to breakup the black.

overall she looks good another lovely updo and very nice coat but the skirt ruined all Imo.

I think this may be one of those regional things which we keep on bumping up against whenever posters make blanket statements about fashion. I've lived in several different parts of the US, as well as overseas, and there is huge variation in what is accepted, and what will draw critical comment. Where I am now, black at a wedding wouldn't be unusual, but I've also lived places where it would have drawn some pretty critical comments. There's a lot of variation in norms, which is something I think it's worthwhile to remember.

I agree, where I live wearing jeans to a funeral or a wedding is perfectly fine for instance. I bet lots of people here would shudder at the thought. I’ve seen photos here and online where people wore clothes to a funeral that, while black, were just to party for me to find descent considering the occasion.

:previous: It's like the recurring pantyhose/tights/nylons debate that comes up on royal threads, with some posters saying hose are passe and no one wears them anymore, and others asserting that they are a necessary part of formal or business dress. A lot of that is regional or cultural. If you want to see some threads that usually end up with someone being banned or the thread shut down, visit some business-oriented advice forums and look up threads on whether you should wear hose as part of business dress.

Not feeling the black outfit at all. I really dislike the coat and don’t care for the uneven hem of the skirt. Her hair is lovely though.

The peach outfit from yesterday was okay. I liked the color, but didn’t care for the way the dress fit and felt there was something slightly off with the jacket. I did love her shoes, hair and makeup.

Hmm, this outfit is a complete miss for me. The individual pieces are fine, but not together.

I do rather love this hairstyle for her. Her face is honestly just so captivating. I often find her fashion secondary to it.

I really don't like knife pleats done in that kind of lightweight fabric. I don't like them ever, but now I know I espcially don't like them as maternity wear.

I like the coat, as funky as it is around the shoulders. I liked the idea of the beige-peach outfit and found the color to be a good, year-round neutral (if it was a clear pastel tone, it would have ready spring/summer to my eye, but all that beige in there makes a world of difference). I really like both of these hairstyles!

But Meghan, dear Meghan, you are too far along to keep wearing non-maternity wear. Just going up a size doesn't make things fit or cut across your belly in a flattering way. Maternity doesn't mean a loose bag, it can still be form-fitting and marvelous, it means the clothes have room to fit both your belly and your upper torso well instead of hitting a weird, nothing-is-quite-right, unhappy medium. And guess what, when you make the jump to clothes that were actually made with a pregnant woman in mind you'll find that they are much more comfortable!!!

Has anyone been able to ID her outfit yet? I know her coat, shoes and earrings are repeats.

Apparently Givenchy have confirmed it is a bespoke dress. Seeing as some photos clearly show it as separates I’m skeptical of this confirmation.

A modern dress suited for pregnancy, Meghan debuted this bespoke silk georgette dress from Givenchy in January 2019.

After seeing clips of her arrival, some from a distance, I have decided to ensure I see her from a distance and moving before I make my mind up as to whether she looks good or meh. Arriving, the pleated points moved really beautifully and gave a touch of softness to an ensemble that would have otherwise been too severe.

I love her new updo, she has the face for it and the pearl studs were a beautiful counterpoint to her updo although personally, I would have preferred her diamond and pearl studs.

She seems to have trouble with hems.. I've seen her wearing loose baggy trousers with the hems trailing on the ground.

Very elegant look on the duchess I don't mind its all black and love the hairstyle too!

That’s actually the style. Don’t ask me why. I hem mine slightly above the ground with heels on. But I’ve seen multiple designers do that and it is shown as intending to drag on the ground a little. Not something that would work for normal folks that walk around and wear them often, but royals aren’t exactly in that situation.

Ah, so it might be a "funky" dress, and she threw a sweater over it. Makes sense why the ensemble looks like separates. I would love to see the dress underneath, but I have a feeling it's more of a summer dress looking at the pictures.

Perfect outfit as usual ! Pity she hasn't worn with it the wonderful pearl necklace she was given last year… it would have been very pretty (well I fell in love with that necklace ! LOL)

I think today's look was lovely on DoS Meghan. I especially love her trying out cool variations of updo hairstyles. The topknot was very lovely today and suited what she wore, just as the side-parted updo with sideswept folded bang was very nice yesterday with the blush beige/nude/pink outfit (the actual color seems indeterminate).

Meghan is definitely very pregnant and it's quite nice to see her reveling in her pregnancy. Due to her slim frame, body shape, and fitness level, she is definitely carrying very high and protruding rather than carrying low or wide. I hope she continues to enjoy this first time pregnancy in its final months. She is very much an inspiration. I'm very impressed by Meghan and the way she has handled everything that's come her way.

While I don't particularly love every one of her sartorial choices, I think Meghan has an eye for what suits her body, her temperament, and her aesthetic, and she's really able to carry off every choice she makes with grace, elegance and confidence. Since the pregnancy announcement and the South Pacific tour in October, I think we've seen Meghan grow in confidence and comfort with her role and with the sartorial choices she's making. It seems to me she's decided to suit herself, to experiment, and to have fun in the process without sweating any of the noise and petty criticisms.

She has a very minimalist aesthetic, particularly in her approach to jewelry. And she's quite graceful and very confident, present and generous in all of her public outings.

I'm eager to see DoS Meghan and Prince Harry tomorrow in Bristol. Meanwhile, the below video provides good views of the black coat and bespoke Givenchy dress Meghan wore on her visit to ACU today. She occasionally placed her hands in the side pockets of her coat. She looks quite stylish and casual, yet sophisticated and elegant at the same time. Duchess of Sussex Meghan = Ineffable Chic.

I dont know about that either lol. It looks pretty clearly like separates to me as well...

I love the topknot. I think it suits Meghan very well and is neat and out of the way of her face. At the risk of endlessly repeating myself, colour is more my cup of tea than black (would love to see Meghan in a lime green or an orange) so the outfit doesn't appeal to me overmuch, especially with pleats. However, she looks fine, engaged and happy on this engagement, and that's the main thing after all.

Beautiful makeup and an elegant look. I have no issues with the layering of black but would certainly welcome a necklace or, dare I say it, a brooch. She looks well, happy and healthy, and this makes a tremendous difference to her appearance.
Just noticed on the Princess Caroline fashion thread ,yesterday she wore black layers with no relief in accessories or jewellery

Ooh yes, like those boots (very suitable on icy pavements) and the clutch as well. Hopefully Meghan will take her coat off when she meets the littlies so we can have a good look at the dress.

I wasn't really digging the dress but now that I have seen it more I really like it on her.

I kind of like the dress and how it sits on her, and I do like the print in general (I can see myself wearing this dress for a brunch or just if i’m feeling a bit silly and want to go a bit crazy), though I feel it would have worked better if it wasn’t all over the dress, but more concentrated and smaller.
Cut wise this is far more flattering to her pregnant body than most of what she has worn so far, yay to no skintight dresses!. I reckon the ribbon is tied higher which give the dress a fake empire look... which works better for how her belly is sitting plus is a good look for someone short with a shorter torso (like her and myself).

So while the print is too much, i’m giving it a pass solely on the fact that the dress isn’t skin tight and seems to sit nicely on her.

I love the boots, but hate the color combo with the dress... A pair of cream boots would have been a better choice, IMO.
And maybe if was worn with a different style of boots, maybe a kitten style bootie or even a loafers style bootie... military style bootie with a block heel would have been a nice option.

Separately from the dress I do Love the boots (however i’m a boot lover so
I tend to almost always love boots) the burgundy shade on the website are far nicer.
This is the first time I am truly thinking of buying something she wore.. sadly I do not have $700 dollars before shipping and vat. But i’m gonna save the link of the red pair and wait to see if they go in sale.

The black coat is.. black, but at least it closes! (Though I reckon it’s one of the bathrobe coats she owns - luckily that trend is finally slowly, too slowly, losing favor as a fashion trend so they’ll disappear soon enough).
This outfit really could have benefited from a different color coat and shoes.

And the usual quibble: the (at the time of writing this) apperant lack of British designers.
