The Duchess of Cambridge's Daytime Fashion Part 25: January 2019 -

I don’t think this shade of green particularly suits her. With spring around the corner it would be nice if she wore a lighter shade. She looks immaculately turned out, but I am not a fan of either the coat or hat.

A gorgeous shade of green for Catherine. I've always liked how she has worn Ireland's patriotic colour on the parades.

Here’s a retrospective of previous years:

2012 – new coat
2013 – repeated coat from 2012
2014 – new coat, since repeated a couple of times
2015 – new maternity coat for Charlotte, worn again for Louis
2017 – new coat, worn a couple of times since then, including on the same day in Paris
2018 – repeated coat
2019 - new coat

She can wear any colour she wants, but it’s traditional to include something green. The Queen Mother and Princess Anne wore mostly green or blue, both colours associated with St. Patrick:

The Queen, however, wore purple:

I disagree, I think she looks really good in this dark green, far better than the pastel green she has worn occasionally. And I think pastels are better suited for after Easter anyway, but that’s my own preference.

I agree. The dark green is far better then some shades she has worn. That grasshopper dress with the bug eye pockets comes to mind

Love the look.

However, I do question why she has to get a new green coat most years, and can't just reuse the same one or two, perhaps styling it somewhat differently.

I like the entire outfit, including the hat.
But it does seem as if Kate has many similar green coats, and could just repeat one of those.

As pointed out by Princess Larisa’s list, even Kate’s new coats for St Patrick’s Day get reused, so it is not like she gets a new coat and it is never used again.
And really there have only been three non-maternity coats she has previously worn for this event, one of which she already repeated as a maternity look. So a new coat this year doesn’t seem spendthrift to me.

I just went and looked and while Kate has a lot of green dresses and gowns, she doesn’t have that many green coats. And since it seems cold and she’s outside for a long time just a dress wouldn’t work.

These are the only ones that look warm enough, besides the 5 coats she has already worn for this event:

And maybe these two, but they don’t seem to fit the event:

I’m sure she will repeat some of these coats over the years and she does wear them to other events.
I actually hope she stars wearing other colours with green accessories, or light blue like the Queen Mother.

Of the coats/suits you have shown here, I really think only the first coat would be suitable for this event. Please, neither of those zipper coat dresses. And Definitely not the tartan coat.;) The last outfit, the green suit, maybe, if it were a month or more later and the weather was warmer. It seems like it is usually quite chilly and sometimes windy for this engagement.

I wonder if winter white would be okay for this event, maybe with green accessories?

I agree, the others all look either too light or too casual. It is a hat occasion after all.
There’s also this maternity one, if she has it tailored. But it’s by Dolce & Gabbana and she’s only worn British for this event so far.

I would love white or navy with green accessories, even brown or beige wouldn't look bad.

I see no problem with any of the first four picks, or even the Tartan. Tartan is not specific to Scotland. There is Irish tartan. Unlike Scottish Tartan, Irish tartan is based on the location of Ireland you are from, and not your clan. Blue is also just as associated with St Patrick (there is St Patricks blue) as green is.

There are Only 9 coats she could have worn, 11 with the two slight choices. Oh yes I can see why that wouldn't be enough :whistling:

Like I said I love the coat. Its actually one of her better coats. Nice sleek and elegant compared to many. But there is no argument to be had that she doesn't have enough green coats to choose from.

Wow she has plenty green coats to repeat! Wonder why she need it a new one? It is nice ! but she has plenty to choose from

Catherine looks lovely. She almost always looks good in Catherine Walker, and this dress is no exception. I'm not a huge fan of the hat, but overall a very nice look for this engagement.

I like the gray dress and black accents. Hair up might look better with the hat.

Both Catherine and HM wore black accents today.

I don't like this look. On Sunday, she looked so "grown up" in the green coat. Grown up in a good way.

Today, it reads too girly to me. I think it might be the flare of the coat/dress and the dark tights and collar and wavy hair.

Perhaps the coat/dress needed to be straighter and her hair back in a nice bun or ponytail. I dunno. Mind, I feel this way whenever Kate wears these flared skirts/dresses/coats.

I appreciate the Duchess is dressed 'as a foil' for HMQ's glorious Spring like Pink. but a paler 'dove' grey would have struck a less funereal note...

I like the dress (especially the belt and wrap bodice) although I think it would look less young without pleats (which remind me of a school uniform) and a gentle flared skirt instead. I prefer it without the hat.

I'm back to say that I like this look 100000% better without the hat. Even the flared skirt part doesn't bother me as much.

This really is a lovely dress, and I especially like the sleeve detail. Much better without the hat.

This has always been my problem with her full-skirted dresses and coats. I don't think they flatter her and are too little girl. Kate doesn't really have the figure for girly. The other major problem I have with this piece is the fit of the bodice. This is supposedly a bespoke piece. There are visible wrinkles from the shoulder down to her bustline which implies bad tailoring. It is almost as if she is either not wearing a bra or wearing one with less support than what she wore to the fittings

The Duchess of Cambridge's Daytime Fashion Part 25: January 2019 -

Unfortunately this dress does not fit her correctly. Once again she’s wearing something that is not tailored for her long waist. The belt is sitting about two inches too high. It should be lower. Plus she needs a better bra for support/lifting up (what little she has). Both of those plus better overall posture would help her out.

I like the fabric, style and detail of the dress. It may be a touch large in the bodice--I am not really sure--but maybe she has lost weight. She looks lovely.

I really like this outfit, I really appreciate that it's a muted tone against HM wearing a bright pink. Yet Catherine stands out. Very classic style.

The duchess looked lovely I'm in the minority and prefer it with the hat.

This silhouette is one of my favourite styles on Catherine but not in grey. I think brighter colours suit her better.

She looks very pretty today. The Peter Pan collar in velvet is a nice, playful touch to an otherwise sober dress

Great color and style for her.

Well I definitely prefer it without the little hat, it’s an attractive dress, but I think the thick black tights are a miss.
