King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia are on their summer holiday. They attended last Sunday July 28 the traditional Enthusiast Vehicle Exhibition at the Solliden Palace Park.
Obviously they prefer to attend the end of the Olympics, when athletics have started and the reigning Olympic champions Armand Duplantis (the biggest gold medal hope for Sweden) and Daniel Ståhl will compete.
But Sweden already won a gold medal in the swimming category (I saw it live on TV). That hope is for the 2nd gold medal now.

Most of the other royal houses are on holidays too but have managed to make appearances, they could have sent someone to the opening at least.
The same with Norway.

(King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain have been crisscrossing from Majorca to Spain and onto France ,the Dutch RF were on holidays in Greece and then onto Paris)

more and different photos of Queen Mary at the Olympics in Thursday August 1st

It's being reported that Prince William will attend the climbing events next week, and that Catherine may accompany him if she feels well enough.
Would make sense, Anne has an engagement in Edinburgh on 5th August so potentially William (possibly with Catherine) could be taking up the royal baton while she is away.

Love Princess Anne's sense of humour -"that was a bit too close" she told Team GBs women rowers after their gold medal win (after a photo finish!)

But most of these royals (except Spain) will not come back now that they have left.

For many of the royals that were at the start of the Olympics have a connection to the IOC which meets at the start of the Olympics so they had to be there for that. Sweden and Norway do not have royals who are apart of the IOC so it makes sense for them to come towards the end.

It is much more important to come to watch the athletes competing, than attend the opening. The opening is much ado about nothing.

A 0,15 sec difference with the Netherlands. In today's women's rowing event it was the other way around: 0,18 sec difference with the Netherlands winning gold and GB silver.

Queen Letizia has visited the Spanish Olympic Committee's Spanish House. There she has greeted Olympic medallists, athletes from the Spanish delegation, members of the COE and journalists covering these Games, among others.

Letizia is so tiny compared to all the athletes!

I wonder if Spain has anyone competing in climbing, since she apparently does that herself.

(..)
Lovely.

Also, Queen Mary, after watching the women's gymnastics all around final, watched some of the swimming events.

Ariarne was reported as expecting Frederik to be there too … but great to see her and Mary hugging. (They are related to each other through marriage.)

Video of the hugging …

I was a bit surprised to see that none of the events Mary has been attending have been put on the Danish Royal social media … I guess she is there as a private person now and not in any official capacity.

She must be having a great time with her friends though, no husband, no kids.

Even Amber is in Paris … she has been posting photos and videos … so a lot of freedom away from all the formality of her Danish life.

this is awesome. And yes why not, some days with her best girlfriends. We all need it.
I dont think she lacks for freedom in Denmark though, two of the friends in Paris with her are Danish.

Glad they got to meet, go Australia!

And Jeremy Rockliff is the Premier of Tasmania, so nice of him to showcase two Tassie lasses.

Good to hear. Attending the Olympics is great and easy press for royals. They can showcase their support for sport and their country 's athletes AND the games are FUN! It would be foolish for the BRF members to not capitalize off this.
Yes it is good that Princess Anne is there. However it is even better when more members of the family are present. Plus TeamGB is huuge more members mean more support for events!

That's so wonderful!! Mary visited the Australian athletes at the village..as did Frederik and spent time talking with them and taking photos and lovely to see Mary there to watch the Australians in swimming. Nice to see them getting some royal support.

Full day for Queen Letizia yesterday!

Men's waterpolo, women's race walking (where a Spanish athlete won silver) and had the chance to also greet the Spaniard who won bronze at the men's race walking, an Alcaraz tennis match, swimming finals, greeting Spaniards all over París, visiting the Spanish athletes at the Spanish House and greeting the Spanish press.

And the Casa Real team keeps bringing their A game to Instagram:

Queen Letizia attended the women's 800-meter athletics competition

Queen Letizia spent her third day in Paris supporting the Spanish delegation. The Queen was able to watch the competition in the company of the president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, who was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports in 1987.

Prince Albert had attended a reception to celebrate 100 years of John B. Kelly Sr. having won his third Olympic gold medal in rowing in Paris.

It is much more important to come to watch the athletes competing, than attend the opening. The opening is much ado about nothing.
Most of those attending the opening have done both and some are still there.
You might also have missed the grand parade or Flotilla of boats sailing down the Seine with most of the competing national athletes waving their national flags.

much ado about nothing indeed!

I had to laugh at the video of Letizia with Alcaraz after his game. They were talking like a couple of friends, with Letizia asking him questions like the journalist she once was. :giggle:

I'm really enjoying seeing the Spanish Royal family supporting their athletes during the whole of the Olympic competition. It's been a while since the could - the Spanish royal family is still small but Leonor and Sofia are making a difference by flying solo.

Leonor and Sofia are an absolute credit to their parents and are thoroughly enjoying flying solo and have excelled at it too.

with her Denmark shirt, lest some people get bent out of shape for her showing support to Australia too : )
