Duke of Vendome

Any news on Prince Jean ? If he's got a new girlfriend and if he's still working for the bank. He seems to stay out of the spotlight as much as LAB runs for the camera.
wittykitty;)

Unfortunately, there are no paintings of it. There is a book by Antonia Fraser that gives a gorgeous description of the gown. When I have time later I will type it up and post here.

What great information gogm and what gorgeous portraits of Empress Eugenie. Thank you for sharing them.

Marie Antoinette was a fascinating figure. What I think it most interesting about her background is her mother, Maria Teresa. She was quite an impressive ruler and for the period one of the few women in Europe so widely praised as being truly "august". Quite a politician and warrior. I think it was Frederick II who, along with Maria Teresa gobbled up huge portions of Poland in 1772, said of his old enemy, MT, that "She wept and wept but she took and took." Wily woman.

Can someone explain how the Orleans became kings when France was gouverned by the Bourbons?

thanks

What???

does anyone know anything about king henry the 8th i heard he had an illegitamate child who he sent to tasmania in australia?

King Henry VIII died in 1547.

Australia was claimed for Great Britain by Captain James Cook in 1770.

The Liechtenstein Ascendancy

The real claiments to the throne are the House of Wittelsbach
Yes, curiously enough the "representative and heir of King Charles I of England" and Stuart successsor to the throne is currently Franz, Duke of Bavaria, Head of the Royal House of Bavaria.

Duke Franz is unmarried and will be succeeded by his younger brother, Duke Max Emanuel, who has five children, all female.

The eldest daughter, Duchess Sophie, is married to Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein, and their eldest child is Prince Josef Wenzel.

So in due course the future reigning Josef Wenzel, Prince of Liechtenstein, will be (in the eyes of the Stuart legitimists) the rightful King of Great Britain.
.

Thanks gogm for those are excellent pictures.

does anyone know if princess clotilde od orleans gave birth?

There was a lot of speculation, including pornography, about Marie Antoinette.
I've heard of those rumors too. They found among her possessions at Versailles a hidden copy of Choderlos de Laclos' scandalous Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). The novel was had been hidden in another book cover.

Translation of French Article about the Royal Gazette

Here is a translation of the article mentioned in the post before me:

In an unchanged format and filled with 8 pages with the help of a new team, the Gazette frees itself from all prejudice.

The Gazette addresses, in fact, the followers of the Royal House of France as an institution and possibly be available for advance subscriptions of 40 Euros. The cost would be 20 Euros for students and the young entering into the workforce.

You will discover there a princely editorial and articles such as "Politics in France", "Foreign Politics", "It is France Who Wins", and "Here in France".

We salute the young team for their work and the next issue will be set for debut during November.

I'm impress by your commend of the French language Tiaraprin! Félicitations.

I did not bother translating the article as the Gazette comes only in French. Also, prices may be different for subscriptions outside the French territory.

Thank you Idriel. I was a French and Spanish teacher here in the United States.

princesses d'Orleans

hi.... does anyone know the d'Orleans princesses... and do you have pictures??

Wow!

I never realized just how many grandchildren Le Comte and La Comtesse de Paris had. Between them and the great-grandchildren, that is enough for a few baseball teams.

One could playfully say they could have been the "new" grandparents of Europe....had all their children and grandchildren married other royalty and nobility. :)

re

I didn't realize it eather.... who did their grandchildren marrie??

I believe some did marry other members of royalty....I think minor members and others married some aristocrats, but not too sure on the others.

What really fascinates me are the three claims to the French throne, the Orleans, Bourbon, and the Napoleonic claims..
believe the descendents of Napoleon should not have a claim as he essentially stole the throne after he became leader of France and crowned himself Emperor.

The Third Republic broke up the crown jewels in the auction of the (nineteenth) century to dispose of important symbols of royalty so that none of the prospective claimants would be able to reassemble the symbols of power.

Many of the jewels crossed the Atlantic to grace the dollar pprincesses of the USA.

Clotilde d'Orleans was absolutely gorgeous in her simple wedding gown and gorgeously coiffed hair. :)
