I only have a shallow comment, but I was not expecting the uniform to suit her that much. She looks not only nice but very composed, for doing less than a month of this.

Edit: Okay, less shallow question – if the second-years give them their swords, what do the older students use?

According to the link posted above by Lula, the oath in Spain actually takes to the form of question posed to the cadets to which they reply "Yes, we swear it".



The text of the question is as follows:


"Caballeros y Damas Alféreces Cadetes, Cadetes y Alumnos! ¿Juráis por Dios o prometéis por vuestra conciencia y honor cumplir fielmente vuestras obligaciones militares, guardar y hacer guardar la Constitución como norma fundamental del Estado, obedecer y respetar al Rey y a vuestros jefes, no abandonarlos nunca y, si preciso fuera, entregar vuestra vida en defensa de España?"

It appears to be an interesting oath as it includes a triple pledge to observe and enforce the constitution as the fundamental law of the State, to obey and respect the King and superior officers (and never abandon them), and, if necessary, to die in defense of Spain. In addition, they also promise to faithfully fulfill their military obligations.
 
Very exciting times for Leonor, she seems to have adjusted very well. Nice to get all these pictures.
 
Indeed, it looks like she's doing fine.

I think her stint at the boarding school was a good preparation.
 
She definitely is looking mature and well placed. Growing up so much.

I am glad she is doing well in this stint.
 
As someone who never doubted that Leonor would do fine in her military training, I feel vindicated.

I am very excited for National Day and October 31.
 
Spanish TV claims that King Juan Carlos will be present at Leonor's Jura de Bandera (Oath of Allegiance to the Flag) in Zaragoza on October 7. OMG! :w00t:

He is her grandpa and loves her.
 
The discussion about King Juan Carlos attendance on October 31st -Leonor´s birthday- has been moved here.
 
The event will be broadcast live on Spanish public television.

- At 12:00 the cadets will parade from inside the AGM to form in the central courtyard.

-In the official ceremony, the director will give the news to the King, as head of the armed forces, once he has entered the parade ground.
-The cadets will swear the flag one by one.

- Later, King Felipe VI will give a speech. The director of the AGM will also speak.

- Afterwards the cadets will pass under the flag again in groups of three to go outside

- There they will parade before their families and other authorities.

Two things strikes me at once, the towering height of the King and that he is correct. When in uniform you salute before shaking hand.
 
So Leonor takes the place at the front and at the right flank. A very important post, because she is the one who sets the speed (the length of the steps) and the direction and the position of the column, under the directions of the NCOs of course, but nevertheless everybody in the column follow her lead.
It's not a position you put someone who can't figure out how to march and understand orders.
 
If the columns will do a march-by later on and Leonor is still at the front right flan, you will notice that she will not be doing an "eyes right" which is a salute. She will look straight ahead. The reason being that everybody else in the column form their position in the rank after her. The front rank will try and maintain as straight line as possible with Leonor as the fix-point.
The same with the ranks following her, they will all try and maintain as straight a line after her. And they will also follow the length of her steps.
And as there will be no NCO calling left, right, on such a parade it's also up to Leonor to maintain the correct marching cadence.
It is not as easy as it sounds!

The flag in question was commissioned by the Queen Regent María Cristina de Austria (Leonor's great-great-great grandmother) and has been used in the General Military Academy since 1886.

It should be stressed that, despite the deceptive naming, the oath is not to an "oath of allegiance to the flag" per se. As the wording says, the oath (or affirmation) is "to faithfully fulfill your military obligations, to keep and ensure that the Constitution is kept as a fundamental norm of the State, to obey and respect the King and your leaders, to never abandon them and, if necessary, to give your life in defense of Spain".

The cadets then confirm their oath by kissing the national flag.

That is a seriously proud looking dad! ?

BTW the weapon she is carrying is Mauser carbine. A Spanish variant of the classical K98.
A very popular parade-weapon worldwide, because it's long enough to be handled easily while standing up straight and sleek looking enough to be aesthetically pleasing to look at combined with a parade uniform.

It shall mean that Leonor has gained self-confidence since she started her military studies. I had thought she looked more confident when I looked at recent pics of her at the Academia. If you are right, then she has become more confident than the first day, when she looked a little anxious.
