If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Hello LadyFinn, I was wondering if its possible to gain access to the links you're being kind enough to provide? I get the "access denied" message.

In regards to the books, is there any translated books for people who are really interested in reading them? I'd love to read these books if possible.

The Royal Warrant Holders in Sweden are a colorful group of entrepreneurs. In his foreword to the new book about the Royal Warrant Holders, the King writes:
“The Royal Warrant Holder is basically a way of marking an appreciated and good business relationship - relationships that in some cases run through several generations. Over the years, it has also come to be seen as a sign of quality, which is of course gratifying.”
The book is a richly illustrated depiction of modern Swedish business. It has parallel texts in Swedish and English. Background to the phenomenon Royal Warrant Holder, and present, reflected in visits to 58 of today's Royal Warrant Holders, spread throughout the country.

Sweden's regents - from Vasa to today
Based on the already popular fact book Kungaliv, here is a small gift book for those who have appreciated the royal family and its regents since Gustav Vasa's time. The 23 regents get a spread each with a picture and very stripped text which gives us a good overview of the Swedish regent length.

The invisible queen is enlightened in a new book
Sofia Magdalena. Kärlek, revolutioner och mord (Sofia Magdalena. Love, revolutions and murder)
Sofia Magdalena, the Danish crown princess who married Gustav III in 1766 and became Swedish queen, has long been invisible in the writing of history. In the historian Claes Rainer's book Sofia Magdalena , we see her emerge from the shadows through the letters, diaries and memoirs of that time - and she turns out to be a very captivating queen.

Finnish Sanna-Mari Hovi has written a book
"Viikingeistä Victoriaan — Ruotsin monarkian tarina"
("From Vikings to Victoria - the story of the Swedish monarchy")
The book provides the reader with a wealth of new and surprising information, such as how long it took to curl the hair of the first Bernadotte king, why a prince was called inferior to a locomotive, and how Carl Philip was due to become king of Estonia.
The main focus of the book is on the current royal family of Bernadade, which came to power in 1818. From previous centuries, the focus is on the most significant or otherwise particularly fascinating people in Finland.

Sanna-Mari Hovi is called a court expert in Finland, but I am not very convinced of the extent of her knowledge of the royal families.

Carin Bergström: Sofia. En drottnings liv (Sofia. The life of a queen)
A queen before her time
In 1856, Princess Sofia of Nassau married the Swedish Duke Oscar of Östergötland. The couple met in a common interest in literature, music and politics. Little did any of them know that fourteen years later they would sit as King Oscar II and Queen Sofia on the thrones of the Kingdom of Sweden and Norway.

"Oscar II" by Herman Lindqvist will be released on 19th August.

There was no indication that Oscar II would ever become king. The line to the throne was long before him. He bet everything on becoming a naval officer and a celebrated cultural personality, the prince of poets. But then he was offered four thrones in Europe, before in 1872 he became king of Sweden - Norway and quite unexpectedly our most royal of all kings. No one thrived as he did in the actual role of king, in the Sweden of Oskarian double standards. He fought to preserve the royal power and keep the union with Norway together. But he lost all his battles. He died bitter and disappointed. The new time was here.

Mikael Holmqvist: Kungen – Sveriges ledare (The King - The Ruler of Sweden), published on 3rd March.
Mikael Holmqvist is professor of business administration at the University of Stockholm. He has previously worked at Uppsala University as well as Cornell University and Stanford University in the USA.

In 2023, Carl XVI Gustaf has been on the throne for 50 years. Based on rich and comprehensive research material, Mikael Holmqvist examines how the King can be understood as "the Ruler of Sweden", based on contemporary social and political starting points.
A central question is how the King is profiled as head of state, and how a certain image of him has been created. Holmqvist shows how the King's profile is to a large extent a result of the demands and expectations of today's market economy society, where the business elite have become the leaders of our time and symbols of success.
Through his activities, speeches and statements as the country's head of state, the King embodies and symbolizes the market economy society, where the concept of "leadership" is central to how he is portrayed, i.e. the idealization of all our ability to be active, engaged, enterprising, entrepreneurial, and to think positively.

Royal objects in the Palace are portrayed in a new book
No king has sat longer on Sweden's throne than Carl XVI Gustaf. On September 15, he celebrates 50 years on the throne, and it is also 500 years since Gustav Vasa was elected king. This special anniversary year is commemorated with a magnificent exhibition at the Royal Palace and with the book "Vasa till Bernadotte". The book presents objects, environments and ceremonies that tell about the importance of the court for Sweden's development as a country and cultural nation over 500 years.
“Our country has for a long time been spared from war. There are many reasons to be grateful for this, but the long-lasting peace has also contributed to the preservation of cultural heritage. There is today a unique collection of personal property in the Swedish royal palaces, mainly from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The objects in the royal palaces bear our history and it is my hope that the book will contribute to an increased knowledge of Sweden's rich history," writes H.M. The King in the book's welcome words.

Princess Christina's third book with Carl Otto Werkelid:

Joséphine
Distant in time - but close to me
Author: Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson
Release date: 2023-10-31
"If she hadn't existed, I wouldn't have existed either," writes Princess Christina in her personally resonating portrait of Queen Joséphine, the doldis of the Bernadotte dynasty. A multi-talented, socially aware, strong-willed and stubborn woman who was deceived, but bided her time and gained an importance in Sweden that impresses her late relative.
Joséphine was a devout Catholic and a granddaughter of the French Revolution. Her father was the adopted son of Napoleon and her grandmother the Empress of France. With alluring list from Karl XIV Johan, the first Bernadotte king, she became Crown Prince Oscar's wife to start the new royal dynasty.

So my hunch was right. I'm looking forward to this one. If I remember it correctly Christina wrote the preface to a book about Queen Josefina a few years ago.

In September 2022 was published Björn Asker's book "Hovet" (The Court).
Björn Asker is associate professor in history and former archivist at the Swedish National Archives.

This book is the first ever summary of the history of the royal court and it therefore fills a large gap in Swedish historiography. Björn Asker clarifies the main lines of development, from Gustav Vasa to Gustav VI Adolf. In copious quotations, the author also allows the people of ancient times to speak themselves, from Kings and Marshals of the Realm to coachmen and nannies. Those who wish to study further will receive full references to the literature and tips on archival material.
The book is written for a public interested in history. But it has content that is interesting even to professional historians because it provides a new overview and builds on the latest literature. The court's history is described in discursive terms. The running text is illustrated with quotations from contemporary sources, from Gustav Vasa's letters in the 1520s to 20th-century memoir literature. In the notation, full references are given to the literature and to archival material.

Ingrid Thörnqvist
Occupation: Queen
The power and the possibilities
Since 1976, Queen Silvia has been in the public eye at King Carl XVI Gustaf's side. We've seen her in silk dresses and glittering tiaras at Nobel dinners and state visits. But few know what she did beyond royal duties.
To find out how the queen uses her role to influence important social issues, journalist Ingrid Thörnqvist has followed the queen's everyday work for a year. How does she pursue her heart questions about sexual abuse of children, about dementia care, about the importance of adult role models for young people? What has she achieved - and how will she be described in the history books?
In a personal reportage book and with interviews with key people, the reader gets to follow the Queen's work up close - right into the closed boardrooms, where no journalist has previously had access. The book gives a unique insight into a very unusual mission, connected to marriage, tradition and duty - but where there are great opportunities to influence.

Herman Lindqvist has just published a new book

Varför just han? (Why him?)
The story of Gustav Vasa and his time
At midsummer 1523, the newly elected king Gustav Eriksson rode into the liberated Stockholm. Gustav Eriksson became Gustav Vasa, the tyrant who became father of the country. To us 500 years later, everything seems so obvious. But the competition for power was fierce. The country could have split. With a combination of luck, hunger for power, greed and cruelty, Gustav won. But it could have ended differently. Herman Lindqvist vividly tells not only about the power struggle but also about Gustav's time and his people.

About difficult crises and the hard work to become a worthy father of the country. But also how he sees his legacy and the role of the monarchy in the future. The book is based on interviews with the king himself, his immediate family and people close to the royal family conducted by journalist and court expert Roger Lundgren over many years. The book contains family trees, curiosities and interesting facts and is richly illustrated with unexpected and rarely seen photographs.
Roger Lundgren is a writer, journalist and one of Europe's most knowledgeable experts on royal history. He is an expert commentator on SVT. His unique and close relationship with the royal family makes the book both personal and detailed. This is Rogers' fourth book about royalty.

New biography depicts everyday life in the service of Prince Eugen - a story in time and space

Irma Samuelsson was 17 years old when she was employed as an assistant cook for Prince Eugen in 1931. In the biography "I tjänst hos prins Eugen" (In the service of Prince Eugen), authors Tulla Grünberger and Inga Malmqvist have collected Irma's letters and diaries. Irma's story is a lovely and engaging story, with her observant eye she gives life to the time and the story she has to tell. Filled with food culture, zest for life and faith in the future - with work from early morning to late evening.
— Irma's diaries and letters tell of a different time. We not only get to share the food, everyday life and all the festivities at the prince's place, but also follow the love story between Irma and Arendt. Irma also ensures that Ernst Malmqvist's story is told, as the prince's porter and helping hand, says Tulla Grünberger.

Review of Princess Christina and Carl Otto Werkelid's book "Joséphine"
Princess Christina approaches her foremother in an ingenious way. She does not pretend to be a historian, she does not write a comprehensive biography. She approaches her in a personal way in conversation with written sources and objects, reflecting on the queen's life and her own. She writes about both the light and the dark. It becomes a text that converses with the person with whom she seeks connection. The title of the book "Joséphine Distant in time – but close to me" suggests this approach.

On April 17 will be published Lisa Viktorsson's book
Queen Louise
As if I were something remarkable

In 1950, Louise became Queen of Sweden. For her, the title was a privilege that required recompense, so she worked as hard as she could and never canceled assignments. Preferably, she worked quietly and stood up for the children, the women's issue and democracy. Today, she is unfortunately quite forgotten in the historical consciousness, even though she was the country's former queen. Of course she was Queen of Sweden but also stepmother, wife and not least - just Louise.
