Albert's New Year broadcast to the Monegasques:
(my summary of his speech - only 20% allowed!)

PA's somewhat solemn speech exhorts his people to solidarity with the less well off, and he reaffirms the ambition of a "solid" Principality on the international scene.

Although less touched by the economic downturn, Monaco experienced consequences in the social sector, but there are signs of recovery. He wants the Monegasques to realise that they live in a free and peaceful country, with security, comfort and good facilities, and he wants Monaco to adapt its development to the preservation of the environment.

He wants everyone's engagement and solidarity with the less well off, and wants all decisions and actions to strengthening Monaco's place on the competitive international scene.

He asks the younger generation for engagement towards the future, and he thanks the Monegasque Government and the outgoing Minister of State for his efficiency and authority, and the National Council, and he asks his people to advance in a spirit of unity.

He finishes with another reminder about those who are unemployed, isolated, ill.

He received it on 6th november for his engagement in research for Marine Biology from the Nice Sophia Antipolis University.

:candycane: Pa's marine research is topic that is quite near to his heart. Then we could find out why those dolphins were in the Monaco waters so close to shore!! Although it seems not surprising Monaco seems irresistable to them too as it does to everyone else!! :heartflower:
 
From Nice-Matin:
PA has written a letter of condolence to to the widow of Philippe Séguin, a senir official who died suddenly aged 66.

PA describes Séguin as a statesman, a passionate servant of the French Republic, and formerly President of the National Assembly in that country; someone of independence of spirit, with strength of convictions, with authority and fidelity.

solo in the benefit of research and new technologies. Prince Albert
attended the event as well:

(ITER) and Japanese Kanama Ikeda visit the construction site for International
Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) site in Saint-Paul-les-Durance,
southern France on January 12, 2010.
ITER is designed to produce 500 megawatts of power for extended periods,
10 times the energy needed to keep the energy-generating plasma - a form
of radioactive gas - at extremely high temperatures.

"Valeri crosses the floor in historic move"

Another innovation by PA: for the first time ever, a National Council President (Stephane Valeri) has been allowed to "cross the floor" and become an advisor in the Prince's Government.

The new President of the Conseil National (Monaco's Parliament) is Jean Francois Robillon.

:hellokitty: It appears the illustrious PA and Monaco are making strides to continue with their biodiversity interests! It's wonderful that PA & Monaco are helping in Haiti as well !! The before & after pics of Haiti were astounding and certainly showed a tremendous movement took place. So it seems it will take a concerted effort from all Nations to do what is needed to once again intervene at a time when it is so needed. :heart1:
 
It is wonderful that Prince Albert is responding so energetically to the catastrophe in Haiti. In the face of such a disaster it is very moving to see so many countries, from the largest to the smallest, responding with all the help they can muster. Prince Albert has really shown great compassion and decisive leadership in this crisis. God save the poor people of Haiti and here's to the Sovereign Prince for rushing to their assistance.

The Sovereign Prince shows a personal initiative in this catastrophe that is above and beyond the call of duty.
 
Georges Marsan, the Mayor of Monaco and childhood friend of the Prince, communicated his New Year wishes to the people of Monaco in the Monegasque language:

"I nostri augüri per l'anu noevu" - sounds more like Italian, but keep it up anyway !!

Amongst the Mayor's projects for the New Year is a "micro-crèche" for babies, alongside the creche for slightly older children; a Tele-Alarm systen for 500 older monegasques; and creating more space for the burying of ashes; and - the main project: A market hall at La Condamine.
 
You are right Renata, it sounds Italian because the real Monegasque language is the dialect of Liguria, an Italian Region: all dialects between the Italian border and Nice area have their origin in Italy, we should not forget that the area was Italian many years ago. In Italian the wishes would be: I nostri auguri per l'anno nuovo! almost the same! and if we speak to a Monegasque we understand what they say...

:twohearts: So the Monagasque Dialect is an Italian dialect is that correct!! We were under the wrong assumption it was French. In any case it is a wonderful dialect when PA speaks he generally uses French so we assumed most were French as well:heartflower:

:candycane: Dudeofphiladelphia microcreche is a good question. We didn't know the answer to that one either but thought we were the only one's whom didn't know so we didn't mention it!:lol::heartflower:
 
In France a "micro-crèche" is a small nursery for children under the age of six years old. A micro-crèche is usually run by two or three professionals (with a minimum requirement of two years experience) caring for (in the ones I've seen) about nine children in total (hence "micro", they are small establishments usually). They are particularly popular at the moment in rural France, where employment for women is on the rise. They are also helpful in small municipalities that have no need for a traditional crèche, which requires a minimum of eighteen children. A lot of parents also find the flexibility micro-crèches offer particularly appealing, as many of them are open from 7AM until 8.30PM. They also address the rather severe lack of childcare facilities in France. The government aims to create between 200,000 and 400,000 extra facilities by 2012 and micro-crèches certainly help to fill that gap, as they are easy to set up and inexpensive.

Since then, two more posts have arrived, and it's now 7.19 in the morning here in Edinburgh! :))

Just a postscript to the word "crèche" which is a French word used by English speakers, meaning "crib" (similar to German "Krippe").
In Italian there are two possible translations: "asilo" (crèche) and "presepio" (crib.

Am I right in thinking you are a native Italian speaker?

speech there and on pic 3 you can see him talking to a
handicapped Emirati who designed a solar powered wheelchair
- what an idea!
