:holly: The video of the festivities was terrific.

:candycane: It was a great view into the celebrations that are so wonderfully enjoyed at this time of year! Of course, all the festivities that PA goes to always wind up being fun! We are so looking forward to seeing all the festivities in Monaco at this time of year. :poinsettia:

Hello....WHERE did you obtain these pictures? Are there any more of them that are not cropped out? We'd like to see the family in the background if possible. thanks

Wow! Thanks for the video, I loved it. I will definitely one of these days spend christmas at Monaco!

ManyMargarets, I'm sorry, but those were the only pics I found at the funeral of Lizanne. Only Albert in the spot, cannot find pics in where he appears with Chris Levine or others.

He also made an urgent appeal on behalf of island states and and those with vulnerable coastlines.

He also announced the launch "MONACO BLUE INITIATIVE", a collaboration between his FPA Foundation and the Monaco Oceanographic Museum, in its Centenary year, next March.

PA took part in a round table event about electric cars and the Principality's "zero emission" vehicles.

Prince Albert is the definitive activist for environmental causes. The Principality's zero emission cars area great idea.!

After the Christmas event yesterday in Monaco (see the family's
current events thread), Prince Albert now is back in Copenhagen
again.

The face expression in pic 1 is quite funny, maybe it's been colder
than expected ;)

:previous: Haha, maybe it was iceflower!
Lately he seems to be very commited to enviromental causes, which I love!

On 17th December, PA gave an interview to Ghislaine Ribeyre of Paris Match on his commitment for Monaco to "Zero CO2 in 2050".

He also announced the departure of the present Minister of State Jean-Paul Proust (a Frenchman) and the appointment of a new Minister of State.

The amended constitution would have allowed (for the first time) the appointment of a Monegasque as Minister of State. However, PA confirmed that the new Minister of State will be a French person.

:bauble: this is the last day of the Copenhagen event?

:candycane: Hopefully this will mean that PA will be at the charity event where they sell the decorated Christmas tree's? :poinsettia:

At the Monaco FNAC, another book launch about Albert - or should I say, two Alberts:

"D'Albert 1er à Albert 2", by Tuna Aksoy Köprülü - she is Turkey's Consul General to Monaco...

Apparently she was, in 2008, behind a bid to get the Nobel Peace Prize for PA.
She described him as "a ruler, a pioneering environmentalist, a sportsman and a wonderful person completely devoted to public life".

:candycane:Last we heard Monaco got some snow today? Since it's a safe assumption Pa won't have to dig himself out of the Palais. Is this weekend the Charity Christmas decorated tree sale event??? :advent:

Further to my post #225, PA has now revealed the name of the next Minister of State:

He's called Michel Roger and will take up the post on March 30th, 2010.

A lawyer by profession, he has worked for the Government of the French Republic in the education, law, youth, and other portfolios.

In an interview for the local Monegasque paper "Monaco Hebdo", PA pointed out that Michel Roger has Monaco experience because he has been a member of the Supreme Tribunal since 2007.

Christmas Eve at Monaco

Midnight Mass from 23.30h in the Cathedral, with Archbishop Monsignor Bernard Barsi.

At the end of the service, five couples dressed in traditional costumes (shepherds, fishermen, bakers, seamen and Monegasques) distribute Pan de Natale (Christmas bread) which has been blessed by the Archbishop earlier in the afternoon.

There is also an account of the Monegasque Christmas at home - "Le Noel Monégasque":

Amongst the food items are the Pan de Natale, the "fougasse" (bread similar to a focaccia) and the "Barba-Giuan" ("Uncle Jean) which is also the name of PA's football team!

:stocking: All the Season's best to everyone! Looks like Christmas Eve is just as busy over in Monaco as everywhere's else! This year they even got a snow for their holiday! It's hard to imagine palms waving under snow b-r-r-rr :candycane:

Christmas Day at Monaco

The Archbishop of Monaco, Monsignor Bernard Barsi, said in his Christmas Day sermon that it is not surprising that, on this Christmas Day, there is an atmosphere of tenderness, innocence and peace amongst our families and societies which we would want to prolong during all the days of the year.

He encouraged people to be attentive to people in pain or disarray: people in war, the immigrants and the displaced, people who are disquiet and touched by the degradation of the environment, those who have lost their jobs, the orphans and mistreated children, people who are ill, and older people who are alone, the homeless, bereaved families.

On December 22, Prince Albert presented the athletes that
will represent Monaco at the Olympic Games in Vancouver,
Canada in February. The team will arrive in Whistler, the
Olympic village, on February 5 and will surely be supported
by the presence of Prince Albert.
