Upon Mako’s arrival, Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, a younger sister of Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, offered the Japanese princess a white scarf called “khaddar,” a traditional and auspicious way to welcome guests.
[…]
In the afternoon, Mako, 25, visited an old farmhouse that has been renovated into a traditional culture museum. She viewed exhibits on Bhutanese lifestyle from the first floor, where cows are kept, to the third floor, where a Buddhist altar is housed.
[…] In front of a weaving machine at the museum, she put on a traditional Bhutanese outfit offered by a female weaver.
In a kitchen on the third floor, the princess marveled at a red chili dish, saying, “(It) looks very spicy.”
