Niinistö Ahvenanmaalla_ kuningatar Silvia kuiskutteli Jenni Haukiolle
The presidential couple moved last weekend to their summer residence in Kultaranta, Naantali. Jenni Haukio told queen Silvia about the Moominworld and how the situation in the park is now normalizing when tourists visit there again.
- You know Moominworld, Haukio asked.
Silvia replied happily that she knew.
Earlier today, the heads of state visited the ruins and visitor center of Bomarsund Fortress. Later, there will be an event about Åland's self-government and status as a demilitarized area, as well as a ceremony at the statue of Julius Sundblom, where President Niinistö will give a speech. The luncheon was at Smakbyn restaurant.
Queen Silvia chose a gift for herself from the restaurant. She wanted to taste the place’s own self-made chocolate chip cookies.
- She wanted them for herself, and she has also tried to make them herself, tells Jenny Björklund, owner of the restaurant.

The King and Queen visited Åland on the occasion of the island celebrating 100 years of self-government.
The royal couple were received in Mariehamn by President Sauli Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio. Then they visited Bomarsund Fortress, which was the site of a battle in 1854 that led to Åland's demilitarization. They got a guided tour of a new visitor center with stories about Bomarsund's history. The lunch was taken at the restaurant Smakbyn which is located next to Kastelholm castle, which was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1388 and which during history had great significance for Sweden.
At the Lagting, Speaker Bert Häggblom received the Royal Couple and the presidential couple for a visit to the plenary hall where the Nordic Speakers, the members of the Lagting and the Åland Government met. They received information about Åland's self-government and Åland's status as a demilitarized and neutralized area.
The King awarded three Orders of the Polar Star.
In the evening, the Royal Couple participated in the 100th anniversary celebration at Mariehamn's square.
The day ended with an anniversary dinner at the private museum Andersudde which shows collections of mainly Swedish and Finnish paintings from the time around the turn of the century 1900.

The King said at his speech among other things:
"As a young man, I visited Åland's beautiful archipelago several times. But if I am correctly informed, this will probably be the first time that a Swedish king pays an official visit here. And in that case, it's time!
I am also happy to see again Mr President of the Republic, who just a few weeks ago visited us in Stockholm on a long-awaited state visit.
There are strong ties between Sweden and Finland, ties that go far back and extend into the future. Åland is a cohesive link between our two countries. And a very important one!"
