Crown Princess Mette-Marit diagnosed with chronic lung disease: October 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
There is no such talk yet, as her illness is slow progressing thankfully..

Unfortunately it will only prolong her life, and not cure her from her illness wich she has chronically (=for the rest of her life) in her body..

Thank you all for your responses.

A lung transplant has its own sets of challenges -but once recovered it will in essence cure her of the disease and the illness and she can go on to lead a normal life. Perhaps the discussion has taken place behind the scenes and we just don't know it. Perhaps she is on a lung transplant list already!

Could a lung transplant really cure her? I had no idea. There would of course be other problems but who wouldn't wish for her to live longer.

Princess Mette-Marit was diagnosed several years ago with pulmonary fibrosis. The recommendation for transplant is early after diagnosis. There is a lot we don't know about her disease including what the cause might be. Often time it is unknown or what is called IPF or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

My own experience as a CCRN working with hearts, as well as harvesting organs, gives me only a general idea re: Mette-Marit's situation.

We don't know if transplant has ever been offered. Lung transplant survival rates are lower than other solid organ transplants (liver, heart, or kidneys) due to the fragility of the lungs.

I am very sympathetic and wish only the very best for Princess Mette-Marit.

Postponing MM activities for a week is not long. It seems like we may expect updates. I want to be an optimist and see our lovely Mette-Marit back soon.

Considering the diagnosis is given a 3-5 year prognosis, and she was diagnosed in 2018, sadly its not unexpected her symptoms have become worse. Hopefully this treatment goes well, and the stress with what is going on with her son will not hinder it, and she will be able to continue on.

HRH The Crown Princess still on sick leave
Due to side effects of the medicines the Crown Princess must take for her chronic lung disease, the sick leave has been extended, initially until 5 November.

Program entries in the period will be canceled or postponed

Not surprising given how strong her medicines are

Nonethless extremly sad that she at the age of only 51 has to endure such a terrible illness

The awful story about Marius going on for about three months surely has taken its toll on her, because she is the mother.
Even if she appreared in public and was much critizied for her appearances because people thought, she doesn't care, she protected him and so on. It still must be awful for her to see her son's development. That last picture of him, posing with alcolhol and showing his disrespect , says a lot.

I always try to be in the shoes of a parent who has such an experience. If I imagine my son would be posing like that and had beat up girlfriends and dealed drugs and what not, I would not protect him any longer. I would turn him over to a rehab clinic, in fact I would force him to do that. And these people have endless connections and resources to do it or could have done it a long time ago.

And if they had done it before, let's say putting him in an expensive private clinic for drug addicts for a year or as long as it takes, maybe issues with him wouldn't have escalated . But they didn't and that probably was their biggest failure.
