The Royal Palace canceled the popular "Open Palace" celebration on National Day.
Usually, someone from the royal family welcomes visitors to the Palace by opening the Palace gates on the morning of National Day. Several thousand visitors usually have coffee, look at exhibitions and royal salons.
Margareta Thorgren: "The Royal Palace is open to visitors 7 days a week, all year round. On National Day, the Palace usually also opens the gates to the Inner Courtyard, unfortunately this does not happen this year because the Palace Administration has a savings requirement to balance the economy after, among others, the pandemic and high inflation. Our goal is to have the Inner Courtyard open on National Day next year. But the public parts of the Palace are open just like other days."
The Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll announced in December that the Royal House must save SEK 20-25 million because the costs have risen more than the apanage.
This also means that several royal castles are closed from the visitors this summer: Rosersberg Palace, Rosendal Palace, Gustav III's Pavilion and Strömsholm Palace. And the Royal Stables, the Royal Chapel and and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities. Work is concentrated on the destinations that have the highest visitor numbers.

So, opening the palaces costs more than keeping them closed? I thought typically the revenue was used towards the upkeep of the palaces. Or is the upkeep not part of the royal budget? Or is the number of visitors so low?

So like many attractions the numbers haven't recovered post Covid (the Royal Palaces here in the UK are the same, or certainly were) and some of the palaces / places aren't getting many visitors so I can see why from a costs point of view it makes sense to keep those closed - opening for a couple of thousand visitors must take lower priority than opening for tens or hundreds of thousands of visitors.
I guess with costs going up its a case of what can you do with the same - or less - funding and that ultimately means doing less.

The court has submitted the financial statements for 2023
- Good tourist weather has had a positive effect on us and so there have been good conditions on the world's stock exchanges. We are quite satisfied with 2023, says the court's treasurer Jan Lindman.

Sollidens slott AB
Sollidens slott AB runs café and restaurant operations, exhibitions, selling souvenirs as well as hospitality and a lot of other things, such as the Solliden Sessions concert evenings which have become a success.
In 2023, activities contributed to the increase in turnover by SEK 1.4 million, the turnover thus lands at just over SEK 15 million. The profit was SEK 612,000, which is really good considering they made a loss in 2022 of SEK 570,000.

Stenhammars Godsförvaltning AB (Stenhammar Estate Management)
The king's greatest pride in life is Stenhammar's estate, which he has managed and developed into a model farm. Plant cultivation, breeding and meat production are carried out, there are hundreds of animals.
The farm is now operating with a profit of SEK 1.1 million last year, the turnover is SEK 17.8 million - an increase of SEK 1.5 million.

Bensor AB
Bensor AB is the king's parent company, the company from which everything is based. It is primarily engaged in asset management and is the owner of both the Solliden and Stenhammar companies.
The company has claims on the subsidiaries of a total of SEK 10.7 million and the company also owes the king SEK 12.3 million.

Gluonen AB
Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine's assets in the form of securities are in Gluonen AB, they manage shares long-term and do not sit and sell and buy on a troubled stock exchange.
The profit last year was 1.4 million after tax, while the market value of the holding is SEK 75.8 million. All profits are reinvested in the company.
- 2023 has generally been a good share year for everyone who invested in shares. For us too, says Lindman.

Fornwij AB
Daniel's owner company made a profit of SEK 1.1 million last year, ten million less than the year before.
Daniel is a major shareholder in Master Training via the Lapada company in which he owns 70 %. Lapada sold a larger share in Master Training just before the covid outbreak, which was well-timed, and Daniel has since taken SEK 28.8 million out of the company, part of the money has been invested in the construction of Daniel and Victoria's new house on Värmdö.

Carl Philip took last year out a total of SEK 3.2 million (€ 280 000) in dividends from his company.

The Royal Court Administration and the Palace Administration will receive more money in next year's budget. The reason is above all that security needs to be tightened, both for the royal family and at the royal palaces.
The grant for 2025 will amount to SEK 190 million. In addition, an extra SEK six million for the current year in the autumn amendment budget is proposed.
According to the Court, an addition is needed both in 2024 and future years, but it will not be as much as the Court requested, because the entrance and sales revenue from the royal palaces increased last year.
The Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson presents the budget to the Riksdag today.

These are losses of a total of 19.7 million for the Royal Court and the Palace Administrations in last year's accounts, while the costs continue to increase.
Court treasurer Jan Lindman says they have reduced their staffing, have not replaced staff who have retired and had a number of redundancies. Housekeeping and park maintenance of the royal castles have been reduced, and opening hours have been shortened to avoid having to close completely at the tourist season. The castles affected include Rosersberg and Rosendal, The Royal Stables and Gustav III's Pavilion. Even the Royal Chapel and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities have reduced their opening hours.
In the government's new budget, the Royal Court and the Palace Administrations receive SEK 190.46 million - an increase of roughly SEK 28 million from last year. (..)

Under the terms of the original owner's will, who will take over the Stenhammar lease when the King passes away? My understanding is that CP Victoria may not be eligible because of her gender, but it would be a big loss to their private wealth if the main line of the the Royal Family lost control of the estate to Carl Philip's descendants.

There's a long thread about Stenhammar on the forums somewhere discussing exactly this.

I know that they are not all royal owned entities, but if I am reading correctly, it looks like the largest based on turnover are Stenhammar and Carl Philip's company Bernadotte & Kylberg. I don't see a turnover figure for Daniel's company but if the profit from the previous year was over SEK 11 million then I suspect that his company is one of the larger ones, maybe the largest.

The report refers only to the Royal Family's private finances.

Taking the Royal Court finances as a whole, the single largest turnover actually comes from the Royal Djurgården Administration, which has a turnover around SEK 160 million, see the Royal Court's website on Royal Finances for further details.

Daniel runs successful company Fornwij AB. He is not on the board, but owns the company 100 %.
In the past four years the company has delivered a profit after tax of just over SEK 27 million. A large part of the profit's origin can be traced to the wellness and health company Lapada, where Daniel's company Fornwij is a major shareholder. Lapada owns close to 30 % in Master Training, which was once a gym chain but now calls itself a "private health club".
In September, Daniel withdrew SEK one million from his company. Since 2015, he has collected SEK 32,170,140 in connection with extra shareholders' meetings. Add a further SEK 2.2 million at an annual general meeting and the sum ends at SEK 34,370,140 (over three million euros/USD).
What all these millions will be used for is a closely guarded secret. There has been speculation that the money goes to the couple's property on Värmdö.
