It's been announced what we can expect from some members of the Royal Family over the weekend:

May 7th
Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh in Cranleigh
Princess Anne and Sir Timothy in Swindon
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in Windsor

May 8th
Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh in Reading
Princess Anne and Sir Timothy in Gloucester
Duke and Duchess of Gloucester in Kensington

Very happy to see the King making room for Beatrice and Eugenie!

Unfortunately, the weather forecast for London for Saturday isn't wonderful, and I'm not sure they'll use open carriages if it's pouring down. Fingers crossed that it stays dry.

I agree, I suspect we will see the wider RF on busses, the working royals in a procession of cars and then the King & Queen in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach with outriders etc but relatively modest.

On return we will see the working royals in carriages/coaches following the King & Queen in the Gold State Coach. Wider RF on busses again.

My only real question on that issue is whether Anne will ride on horseback there and back or just back.

Lovely to see Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Please King Charles, make more

use of them.

A man's been detained after throwing shotgun cartridges into the grounds of Buckingham Palace, and the news channels are reporting a heavy police presence there. It just seems to be a lone idiot, but it's quite worrying.

Is it just me thinking the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester should be in, well...Gloucester??? :D

Wow, saying on BBC a controlled explosion took place. That ain't good.

I think it was just a precaution because he was carrying a bag and they didn't know what was in it, but no-one needed a security alert four days before the Coronation :-( .

It’s all the one area and none are going to far from home. But lovely. Wonder whether Kate or William will go anywhere?

Certainly he is not going to.

He may have no choice and really they are a million times better than other options. they are perfectly lovely girls who have dealt with a lot of mess with enormous dignity. Hard to believe who their parents are. They do do engagements particularly Eugenie. I’ve always found it being ‘private for their charities’ odd. Your either a public person doing public work or you are not.

Quite interesting that the princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are included - in about the same role as the duke and duchess of Gloucester. It makes you wonder whether they will start doing the occasional royal engagement - because, if not, why include them now?

I don't think official inclusion of the York princesses in a once-per-generation royal celebration is likely to pave the way to future royal roles, but given how they have been treated by much of the public and the past rumors about the now king's attitude toward them, it is a kind gesture from the king and a pleasant surprise.

I notice that the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra are not included and wonder when their retirements will be officially announced.

Reporters have said Kensington Palace is going to announce their engagements for the week in due course.

Lol good point!

Nice that Beatrice and Eugenie are included despite not being working royals. Kinda surprised Louise isn’t included. I know she doesn’t use HRH, but still.

Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall are not included either, so I would guess that Princess/Prince status is indeed the dividing line.

Surely Eugenie will be at home with her feet up on Sunday, not out glad handing with the public. Her home is in Windsor, after all.

The Duke of Kent still undertakes some engagements according to the court circular but Princess Alexandra haven’t had anything since last year so i suspect at least she is on the way out ?

It makes sense on one level but not another.

Anne and Tim live in Gloucestershire while the Gloucesters live in Kensington so a reduction in costs based on travel alone.

This weekend is a weekend in the middle of Louise's university exam period so she probably will be studying if she has an exam next week.

She wants to pass her exams and that will be her focus surely. I am sure that the King wants her to pass as well.

There is currently a large rehearsal in London. Reuters has a live stream from outside Buckingham Palace. They seem to be preparing for the return procession now.

Peers to wear coronation robes in last minute Palace U-turn

Members of House of Lords expressed horror at prospect of attending Westminster Abbey in nothing more distinguished than a business suit

However, hereditary peers and sitting members of the House of Lords who received an invitation to the Coronation are understood to have been informed in the last 48 hours that they can now wear coronation robes should they wish.

A royal source confirmed there had been a change of heart. One of the original concerns was that not everyone would have coronation robes, they said.

However, it became apparent that “some were reasonably keen” and so it was decided that if they wanted to, they could. Coronets will not be worn.

One source claimed the King had “over-ruled” the Earl Marshal on the decision, perhaps after being lobbied by unhappy acquaintances. However, Buckingham Palace declined to comment.

The decision follows criticism that the Coronation will be a “cut price”, scaled back affair with too much focus on the cost of living crisis.

They have often done the 'occasional royal engagement' e.g. both usually attend one garden party a year.

The operative word is 'occasional' - one or two a year not associated with a major royal celebration.

I am not sure that their retirements will be announced but more they will just fade away.

She has done two this year - hasn't been 'out and about' but has done 'in house' engagements. Source - Court Circular. One 'presented medals' and one 'reception' both in February.

The Duke does about as many as the Duchess of Gloucester.

Heard that late last night,Police have ruled out any terror links for the moment!

well they are not. They are private people who do an occasional engagement for charities. Just as many people have a full time job and do a bit of charity work.

Anyone can do charity work if they like, their charity stuff is private because they undertake it themselves and are not doing it on behalf of the monarch.
