I am looking forward to the pomp and pageantry. I have a giant 66" flat screen TV and I might host a viewing party.

I hope Charlotte is in attendance at the Coronation. As the first female not relegated to be pushed back in the line of succession behind a younger brother, she is something of an historic figure.

I think Charlotte will be there. She and George were both at TQ’s funeral.

A viewing party sounds fun.

Couldn’t have said it better. Why having a monarchy and a royal family if they have to be like this? It more and more looks like a Marketing company rather than a royal family. How sad.

Hope King Charles realizes it and makes the Coronation an event to showcase some change.

A monarchy is no ape theatre: throw a nickel and we perform a dance for you.

The best example is Denmark, where there is not even an Investiture: the new Sovereign is proclaimed from the palace balcony. No more, no less. That did not stop Denmark to be one of the most glittering monarchies of all.

Bunte online, the German tabloid, reports, citing the English newspaper The Sun:
https://www.bunte.de/royals/britisc...-andrew-und-harry-aus-kroenungs-programm.html

So, the Princes Andrew and Harry will not be part of the Balcony assembly - since the Balcony is reserved for those members of the British Royal Family, which are working Royals.

"A lot will be happening between now and then" - this is Prince Harry's opinion in the question, if he will be invited to the coronation. He wants to go.

since when was the balcony restricted to working royals?

that was for last year, does not mean that it is the same forever and ever. And the children are not working royals yet they were there with thier parents.

"Working royals" is an inaccurate term. It implicates that Peter Phillips or David Armstrong-Jones are not working, while they do very much earn their own living.

My advice would be to follow other examples and make a difference in the Royal House (children of a King and of a Heir) and the royal family (all descendants of King George V).

And that's not good in this case either. Because that means that royals who don't represent the Monarch(y) i.e. Harry and Meghan should be on the balcony, while those who still are representing it and have been doing it for decades (Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra) shouldn't be.
Royal House should count only those who perform official royal duties. And the rest should be Royal Family. And frankly, those who constantly attack and humiliate both shouldn't be part of either.

A balcony appearance of working royals and their spouses plus the heir's children (who are potentially the future BRF) works well I think.

It's probably for the best. Many people would be fine not seeing HRH Princess Beatrice, Eduardo, Sienna, Wolfie, HRH Princess Eugenie, Jack, August, possibly Lady Louise and Viscount Severn, Peter, Savannah, Isla, Zara, Mike, Mia, Lena, Lucas, HRH Princess Margaret's children and grandchildren, or the children or grandchildren of TRH The Dukes of Gloucester or Kent, Prince Michael of Kent, or Princess Alexandra, so long as TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also not there.

Then again, HRH The Duke of York walked with the family during Christmas, which may have been testing the waters.

I wish for the whole extended family to all be on the balcony, even though I don't think Harry and Meghan should be invited to any of the events. However, if Harry and Meghan do get invited to join the balcony appearance, they should be on the end, not front and center. Prince Andrew can be their also. Maybe next to his daughters and spouses.

There has been speculation in the press that King Charles III is going to ditch some of the royal robes.

Attending the Christmas service is just a family event so it's less of an issue to see Andrew there. I don't think there's a cat's chance in hell that Andrew will be on that coronation balcony because Charles knows the photograph will be an iconic image of his reign and he won't want it tainted by a brother who stated on national TV that he didn't regret his friendship with a prolific sex offender.

I think Charles made his intentions of a slimmed down monarchy abundantly clear at the 2012 jubilee balcony appearance so it wouldn't surprise me if the line-up was just Charles, Camilla, Anne, Edward, Sophie, William, Catherine and their children.

I may well be wrong, but I've suspected that the “working royals only” business had more to do with the queen coming up with a graceful way out for Andrew, her favorite child. She didn’t want any uniforms at Philip's funeral either, another way that Andrew wouldn't look different than his siblings.
It was fun when we saw all the family and kids on the balcony. I wish that would come back.

I think they found good way to limited royals on the balcony and will stick with this decision. With new generation of spouses and children the balcony became overcrowded. They needed to do something in any case.

It was fun to see the larger group on the balcony. I miss it too.

I wonder if any members of the royal family will ride on horseback behind the coach.

At previous coronations, it was the personal aides-de-camp who did this (in 1953 it was the Duke of Gloucester and Lord Mountbatten), but of the five listed in the Wikipedia article, I could only imagine Prince William doing it.

Perhaps Princess Anne would ride as Gold Stick in Waiting, as she did in the Golden Jubilee procession.

I can't see Anne riding a horse, as she would have to be wearing military uniform. I do think if she can't wear a tiara and a gown then the other women won't do so either so all would be in military uniform ...

Anne wore military uniform at the State Opening of Parliament over the years when other royal ladies wore gowns and tiaras so I think it's possible this could happen at the Coronation too. I think Anne seems to prefer this to getting all dolled up in a tiara etc.

"For the 2,000 people who will receive an invitation to Westminster Abbey on Saturday May 6, hearing that envelope land on the doormat will be a thrill – inside is their ticket to a front row seat to history. For Francis Dymoke, it’ll be a feeling more akin to relief. If he is invited to the coronation, he will be the 34th Dymoke to watch a King or Queen crowned since William the Conqueror."

The difference is that Anne is a Goldstick-in-Waiting and as such has a position in all the processions, so she will by all likelyhood be mounted and in uniform.

Yes I agree. It's unlikely that Anne wouldn't fulfil her role on the day and while she's still fit to ride in processions, I'm sure she'll continue to do so. Can anyone remember at which point HMQ stopped riding at Trooping the Colour?

There are two Gold Sticks (the other is the colonel of the Life Guards), so it wouldn't exactly be an obligation for her. They alternate attending the opening of Parliament, for example.

1986. After that her horse ”Burmese” retired and she decided to not train a new horse for it and go in a carriage instead
