The Laureates of the Polar Music Prize 2016 are: Max Martin and Cecilia Bartoli
Max Martin is a songwriter from Sweden. Cecilia Bartoli is a mezzo-soprano from Italy.

On Thursday, 16 of June the Laureates will receive the prize from His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at a gala ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall to be followed by a celebratory banquet at Grand Hôtel. The event will be broadcast live on Swedish national television (TV4) at 8 pm CET and can be viewed throughout Europe via TV4 Play. Each recipient receives a total amount of one million SEK.

The line-up for this year's ceremony is announced! The citations will be read by Howard Dorough, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson of Backstreet Boys and Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy Alice Bah Kuhnke. An impressive line-up of Swedish and international artists will perform at the Stockholm Concert Hall and at the banquet at Grand Hôtel Stockholm; Seinabo Sey, Amanda Bergman, Lena Willemark, Sabina Ddumba, Timbuktu, Väsen, Jamie Cullum and many more.

Yes, I think it is the first time for Carl Philip. At least I don't remember seeing photos of him there. Victoria has attended with the king and queen, princess Christina has attended few times, princess Lilian attended in many years and from 2010 the king and queen have attended with Victoria and Daniel - in 2014 Madeleine and Chris attended too (Madeleine only at the banquet with the queen).

Here is the managing director of Polar Music Prize, Marie Ledin with her brothers Lars and Anders Anderson. Their father Stikkan "Abba" Anderson founded the Polar Music Prize in 1989 and the first prize was delivered in 1992. Also Anders and Lars Anderson are working in Polar Music Prize.

Somptueuse, Victoria de Suède éclipse Sofia Hellqvist

Gunilla Brodrej, the music critic at Expressen, didn't like the way Cecilia Bartoli was treated at the Polar Music Prize and especially she didn't like Alice Bah Kuhnke's (Minister for Culture and Democracy) tribute speech to Bartoli.
Max Martin gets a speech from the Backstreet Boys and greetings from stars like Britney Spears and Zlatan. Cecilia Bartoli gets a strange speech from the Minister for Culture.
Yes, Kerstin Avemo's and Ann Hallenberg's and folk group Essence's performings of Bartoli's songs were marvelously beautiful. But when it came to finding music personalities to honor the Laureates verbally the focus is fully on popular laureate Max Martin. Not only Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kiss (!) and Zlatan greet Martin at the video. Three Backstreet Boys members give an emotional speech live on stage about how much Martin has meant to them. And nothing wrong with that.
Cecilia Bartoli has to settle to clips from a documentary about herself and video greeting from her colleague, Anne Sofie von Otter, who incidentally lives a few blocks from the Concert Hall. Then she gets a speech by the Minister of Culture, which must go down in history as one of the most embarrassing of the Polar Music Context. It turns out, that Alice Bah Kuhnke loves Cecilia Bartoli. Bartoli has followed her, in all occasions in life. Yes, even "When I gave birth".
That Max Martin songs have meant a lot for the Backstreet Boys is a completely different thing than that Cecilia Bartoli discs have had a prominent place in Bah Kuhnke's record shelf.
Malena Ernman should have been asked to hold the tribute. Or Esa-Pekka Salonen. Or anyone who can pronounce Bartoli's name right and play down her own role.
Brodrej writes that she actually thinks the crown princess had done it so much better. She would have read up on but she would have also been speaking out of a strong emotion for the genre. When Ann Hallenberg sang Händel's Aria she namely saw prince Daniel taking Victoria's hand and pulling it into his knee where they intertwined their fingers.

The royal calendar was just updated. According to it the king, queen, Victoria, Daniel, Carl Philip and Madeleine attend the delivery of the Polar Music Prize on 15th June at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

The Polar Music Prize gala award ceremony takes place at Konserthuset Stockholm on June 15, where the 2017 Laureates Sting and Wayne Shorter will be presented with The Polar Music Prize by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
The citation for Wayne Shorter will be read by the Grammy award winner and jazz musician Esperanza Spalding and the citation for Sting will be presented by worldwide acclaimed guitarist and singer José Feliciano, who will also perform live at the ceremony.
Both the gala award ceremony and the banquet will feature exclusive live performances by great Swedish and international artists and musicians. The performers will honour the Laureates with their own interpretations drawn from the wide-ranging repertoires of Sting and Wayne Shorter.
The impressive line-up includes Gregory Porter, Ane Brun, Jennie Abrahamson, The Tallest Man On Earth, Linnea Olsson, Josefin Runsteen, and saxophone players Lennart Åberg, Fredrik Ljungkvist and Marius Neset. José Feliciano will also perform live as well as reading one of the citations.
The performances will be accompanied by The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra led by maestro Hans Ek and a band led by Robert Elovsson.
The host is Swedish mezzo soprano and music journalist Boel Adler.
A glittering banquet at the Grand Hôtel will as always follow the ceremony, where the music tributes to Sting and Wayne Shorter will continue. Performing at the banquet are Eva Dahlgren, Petra Marklund, Esperanza Spalding, Nils Landgren and Gregory Porter. Conductor Markus Jägerstedt and his band will accompany the performances.

The direct broadcast of the ceremony on TV4 Play starts at 4.15 pm from Konserthuset Stockholm and the banquet at Grand Hotel goes live on TV4 at 8 pm. Hosts of the TV broadcast are Tilde de Paula Eby and Jesper Börjesson.

Oh, it was such a wonderful prize ceremony once again! How Victoria and Wayne Shorter's wife lived with the music through the ceremony, how Wayne Shorter loved to hear swedish musicians play his music. When José Feliciano sang a new song he had written to Sting, and when he sang Every breath You Take. Both Shorter and Sting held great speeches.

- Both Chris O'Neill and Princess Sofia have other commitments, Margareta Thorgren told earlier this week about them not attending.
Expressen has found out that Sofia had a private commitment. Her goddaughter Tiara Larsson's school ended today and Sofia wanted to go to Älvdalen to attend at that.

Annie Lennox was the surprise at the banquet, she sang for Sting. Annie had been smuggled from the Arlanda Airport and kept as a secret at the backstage. Sting was very touched about Annie singing his song and he said at the interview during the banquet that he was more touched about everything during the day than what he thought before he came to Sweden.

Polar Music Prize Press release 2018: The Awards will be presented at a gala ceremony and banquet at Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on Thursday 14 June. The event will be broadcasted live on Swedish national television (TV4) at 8pm CET and can be viewed throughout Europe via TV4 Play. Each Laureate receives prize money of one million Swedish Kronor. (approx. GB £90,000 / US $130,000).

The court updated the calendar today
King Carl Gustaf, queen Silvia, Victoria, Daniel, Carl Philip, Sofia and Madeleine attend at Polar Music Prize on 14th June.

On Thursday 14 June, this year’s Laureates of the Polar Music Prize are being celebrated in a ceremony at Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, where HM King Carl XVI Gustaf will present the prize to Metallica and Dr Ahmad Sarmast, founder of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM). Attending from Metallica are Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo.
Along with Deep Purple members Ian Paice and Roger Glover, Afghan singer and television personality Aryana Sayeed will read the citations for Metallica and Dr Sarmast.
Live music of Swedish and international artists will be played in the Vinterträdgården hall at Grand Hôtel. For the first time ever, both winners will be honoured by one artist, as Loreen pays tribute to Metallica and ANIM, the latter with a popular Afghan song in Pashto.
Afghan singer Aryana Sayeed will also pay tribute to ANIM, and Norway’s Tuva Syvertsen will sing and play the Hardanger fiddle in honour of Metallica.
Other performers include Loney Dear and some very unique collaborations, among them Ghost and Candlemass performing together for the first time, as well as Dennis Lyxzén and Mikkey Dee with a specially composed number.
The house band is led by Svante Henryson, and host for the awards ceremony is mezzo soprano, music journalist and presenter Boel Adler.
TV4 will broadcast live from the banquet from 20:00–22:00, hosted by Tilde de Paula Eby and Jesper Börjesson.
The awards ceremony in its entirety will be broadcast on TV4 Play from 18:00–19:00.

Now when the ceremony has been moved to Grand Hotel, where the banquet has always been (I guess they are saving money), it would be fine if only the king, queen, Victoria and Daniel attended.
