He explicitly stated that he did so as 'president of the FA'; so I assume this is the stance of the organization he represents.

Yes he did & it is. So long as he goes no further. He's made his point.

The Duke of Cambridge opened the high performance centre at Aston Villa Football Club's Training Ground, Bodymoor Heath on the morning of 4th May. He was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Warwickshire (Mr. Timothy Cox). His Royal Highness later visited Babcock International Group, Walsall and was received by by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands (Mr. John Crabtree).

Really worthwhile visit from William. Very interesting that the Met now have a wellbeing dog for cuddles.

That’s a great idea. With all the depressing, harrowing situations the police find themselves in on a constant basis, they do need cuddles ...and doggies are perfect for that

I'm sure it's difficult after everything in the last 24 hours but it's an important week of engagements on several fronts and it's always fun to see William play/attempt to play football.

The Duke attended the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh ,Scotland.

I do like his Scotland visit. He is growing into his part in the RF. And BTW, can Sturgeon look more sullen if she tries?

The Cambridge social media seems to use "I" a lot lately (since the vaccine) instead of third person (the Duke or His Royal Highness). No the usual "-W" though to indicate that it's William himself like in the past.

The DM keeps trying to say he looks down cast and gloomy but he doesn't really. Looking at their site they've even headlined an article about him being "grim faced" whilst he looks quite animated.

For this morning's formal procession and Assembly he looked appropriately serious.

I wonder if they want to do a "transformation" headline once Kate gets there?

Sturgeon doesn't want him there for her own reasons.

There are a number of great points in that speech - especially those about his personal connection to Scotland, the use of the mute button and the way the Church of Scotland dealt with, and is still dealing with, the pandemic.

One that struck me though was this one:

One day, it will be my responsibility to swear my own oath to maintain and preserve the security and independence of the Church of Scotland.

I don't think I have ever heard William so clearly articulate that one day he will be the King - I know he knows that but this is a statement that clearly shows that he knows what that will actually mean ... that part of his accession and coronation oaths involve swearing to protect the Church of Scotland (and of England of course).

It can explain Sturgeon's sour face though.

Does anyone know why?

What sort of engagement was it?

From William's speech:

Catherine and I are very disappointed that we will not be able to visit Glasgow this week, where among other things we were planning to host a concert for local heroes at the Barrowlands. We look forward to finding a time to visit again soon.

From what I have been able to find out it seems that Glasgow is still in lock down due to the Indian variant.

Thank you. Yes I remember now about Glasgow & covid.

HRH The Duke enjoyed watched Scottish Cup Final at the Rooftop Bar in Edinburgh with First Responders.

William appears to be doing really well so far. I think his address to the Assembly of the Church of Scotland was very good, it's interesting to count up the moments of significance that Scotland and the Church holds for him as a person and I liked that he's acknowledging the responsibilities that will one day be his without appearing to hurry anyone off this mortal coil.

And that looked like a fun engagement this afternoon.

Yes I agree.

Without wishing to get too political, discussions over Scotland can focus disproportionately on the politics of independence. William's speech clearly demonstrates that there is a British social union which is as equally important as any constitutional question.

It's useful to be reminded of that unity sometimes. We live on a very small island after all.
