The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, 6 May 2023

I'm following it through BBC world for the last 3 hours. They totally missed entrance of all foreign royals and they didn't show almost none of them inside, except some glances from far. Strange

As mentioned here, the Royal Family Channel actually showed the entrance of the foreign royals.

No Methodist. Which in of itself would be a minority Protestant religion in Northern Ireland. Most would be Presbyterian stock. In the south most would be Church of Ireland.

Religion in Northern Ireland - 2021 Census

Roman Catholic Church (42.3%)
Presbyterian Church in Ireland (16.6%)
Church of Ireland (11.5%)
Methodist Church in Ireland (2.4%)
Other Christian (6.9%)
Other religion (1.3%)
Non-religious (17.4%)
Not stated (1.5%)

Sky and ITV were the same. Sky showed a horse's backside for over 5 minutes! ITV did show some of the dignitaries arriving, but Sky seemed more interested in the horses and the BBC seemed more interested in the choir.

Pleased to see so much bowing and curtseying on the King and Queens way in and out of Abbey (it became almost minimal in the last decades of the last reign) . Really fit to the occasion.

The TV commentary was on Harry standing alone, behind Prince Michael of Kent in full regalia. I saw when he came into the church waiving hands and other royals and people seated ignored or looked away as he moved toward them. When you disrespect your Dad, and the country, don't expect a parade.

The march on the screen right now is great, and I'm still thinking about the carriage defying gravity held by those giant leather straps. The Wales' carriage was held by a modern chassis underneath.

I'm also watching it on the BBC since 10am

Princess Anne has changed out of her Coronation Robes and is now on horseback in the parade. What a woman. She and Andrew looked so very proud of Charles, and I'm sure Charles is proud of them.

Procession has changed - weather possibly?

Mmmm and? I obviously meant Protestants in the south being anglican. Which they largely are.

Sir Tim in the carriage procession with the Duke and duchess of Gloucester.

I think that will be the last coronation. The Church of England is likely to be disestablished in the next decades and, with disestablishment, the coronation will be discontinued.

It is an interesting ceremony embedded into an Anglican service, but the anointing and coronation look out of synch with contemporary times. You can also see it was rather uncomfortable for the King and Queen and for most everyone else involved.

Why should it be discontinued. It has been very meaningful, sublime and surreal. Cost may be expensive but spread over many years, would surely bring down the cost.

How much the USA Presidental Inaugeration cost every four years.

Just added the figures for Northern Ireland.

The Church of Ireland is the largest Protestant Church in the South.

I had to switch from TV, now in silly commentary mode, reduced window and name-dropping Harry, to Twitter's Sky News live with no commentary so I can see the march.

All extended families invited without their spouses. Same for the Middletons

I was a bit surprised that they were placed with/behind the royal family while Camilla's family was on the opposite site (and because of that ended up having a much better view).

I believe only Knights and Dames Grand Cross of the RVO can wear the order's mantle. Since Harry is only a Knight Commander, he wore the necklace insiginia and the star of the order on his morning suit while Prince Michael, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Princess of Wales were fully robed.

Ah makes sense. Interesting that. Interesting what a minority the combined Protestant churches are. Didn’t know it was that skewed now.

This is one hell of a parade!

Favourite bits: The Byzantine Chant, when Prince William kissed his Dad, and Princess Anne's hat. Catherine looked amazing and the Wales kids were great. Louis did really well considering how young he is. Oh, and Zadok the Priest.

Was able to watch it with a friend at our local over 50s centre which was nice.

Could be a very prominent statement. They also had their children walk after them.

That or there was a last minute panic with one of the children perhaps. Anyway worked well.

The children walking behind their parents was planned from the start (it was in the Order of Service); the change was in them being part of the procession instead of being the last to enter before the procession.

I also noticed that Louis was temporarily taken out (not sure exactly when but he wasn't there during the long musical bit when the king and queen were changing robes.

Camilla is so serene ...

Both Charles and Camilla look exhausted

I don’t think they do. Charles looks immensely emotional. Camilla serene. Fairly typical really for them.

Imho Camilla looked rather uncomfortable and unsure (and a bit unstable for example when leaving the throne) while Charles looked very much touched, thoughtful and appreciative.

Poor Rish Sunak. He looked so nervous and stiff reading the Lesson.

I thought he did really well. He hardly needed to read and had clearly practiced a lot.

(although imho it remains weird to have a non-christian declare 'This is the Word of the Lord' (and say 'thanks be to God' together with the congregation) after reading from the bible as it should be something you truly mean)

I have not had time to read through the thread, so my apologies in advance if these questions were answered earlier.

Where was the Duke of York seated in the cathedral?

Why were the Duke of Edinburgh's children (who are not working royals) included in the carriage procession, when the children of the Princess Royal and the children of the Duke of York were not?

Charles was overwelmed with emotion and to me the most emotion was his Son , his Heir Kissing him and the King said , thank you Son.
King Charles living Westminster with King Edouard's Crown and full regalia , I never forget. (only surprised by few bows and curtseys )
I looked on BBC , on belgian posts bla bla.

Is the fly past going ahead?

I'm just watching the GB News coverage, Cameron Walker mentioned that aircrafts are going to fly overhead at around 2:30pm British Time.

Anyone seen Tom and Laura plus daughters arrive?

If I recall correctly, they arrived either just before or just after the royal family (there was also a group clearly arriving late as they arrived after the foreign royals). If you want to check, you can go back to the coronation service on The Royal Family channel.

Stood behind his grandfather which the other pages.
And because of that George had a much better view of what was happening than almost anyone else. Even Camilla at the beginning was looking to her left (I assume to a screen but it looked rather weird) when the action (the king stating he was coming to serve, the oath, kissing of the bible) was going on right next to her on her right.

Consider her age, the extension of this event and that she is wearing a coronation dress that looks heavy. Charles is focused on the ceremony and not mugging the live cameras placed all over the place. And he can barely move with those heavy robes he had on him.

I loved King Felipe VI's decorations. The collar of the order of the Garter with the Sovereign's necklace insignia of the order of the Golden Fleece, and then the star of the Garter with the star of the Spanish Order of Carlos III. A very rare sight indeed.

I suppose he was also wearing a Cross of Military Merit (?) and another star I cannot recognize.

In the third row, by the wall.

Presumably because James is a minor and Louise is still at school and they are both viewed as children; Anne's children and Andrew's are independent adults with their own families and lives.
