Summary of quite a few articles in Billed Bladet #33, 2012.
All written by our athletic reporter Ulrik Ulriksen.
During the stay in London QMII was interviewed by TV2 and she was indeed ready but equipment wasn't! Okay, so she sat down and waited patiently. And wouldn't you know, som pig had left a popsickle lying around! QMII quickly disposed of that thus making her contribution to keeping the Olympic Village clean and tidy.
To the reporter she said about the village: "I think the village is very fine/neat. It seems extraordinary appealing. There is room, but that big distances as far as I can tell.
And people strolled about as if they felt comfortable. That's nice. And that was what I noticed in particular.
I met various Danish athletes. Among them some of the handball girls".
But there was also time for some time out for Mary and Frederik, sort off.
Because they went to a Danish restaurant in Lombard Street, owned by their friend Søren Jessen. He happens to be chairman for Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce and once in a while he hosts Great Danes events, this time in honor of M&F.
Among the guests were Caroline Heering, Ditlev Ahlefeldt-Laurvig and Prince Pavlos with his Marie Chantal.
The dinner lasted to way in the evening.
M&F strolled to the restaurant. Mary in a navy-blue (I think) knee long dress, Frederik kept his hands in his pockets thus preventing his arms from floating up in the air....
Shortly before Joachim and family arrived in London, Mary left with Bella and Christian. Escorted by a stern looking and muscular female protection officer
(*) they opted to go by the Underground/Tube, rather than in a car at the South Quay station ti minutes walk from Dannebrog. Mary in a short summer dress and Isabella in a long bright red dress and sporting a ponytail. Christian politely waved goodbye to our reporter.
Joachim and our Marie arrived towards the end of the games as you know. They settled in onboard Dannebrog, where Frederik was also staying. (**)
The next morning the whole family took a stroll along the quay, and posed. Marie wearing her dalmatian-dress.
Joachim and bette Henrik were observed playing on the deck. While Marie and her LiW, Britt Siesby, took a closer look at the London, not least Regent Street and Oxford Street. (***) - Before returning home to a kiss and hug by Joachim on the deck. (****)
J&M weren't alone. Quite a few of their friends visited them onboard Dannebrog for a little dinner. Frederik was there, so was Caroline Fleming who lives in London, Nina Wedell-Wedellsborg with son, Ditlev and Jean Ahlefeldt-Laurvig and J&M's very good friends, Charlotte Sparre and Jens Wittrup Willumsen.
Joachim and his Marie also visited the Danish exhibition St. Katharine Docks. With them they took bette Henrik. He soon charmed everone in sight when he was equipped with two red baloons with a stick between them. He began to play weightlifter, or something... Whatever it was it took concentration, so his tongue was sticking out.
Finished with his body-building session he baloon-boxed with first Charlotte Sparre and then Britt Siesbye, so that was a cool day.
Daddy Joachim tested how fit he was on an excersize bike. He was visibly pleased with the result.
Joachim said about Frederik's work in the IOC:
- "There are ten billion opinions about the International Olympic Comittee which my brother is a part of. But in the end it depends on the individual member and the work he is doing. And I don't think there from Danish side is any doubt whatsoever about in the effort the Crown Prince puts in his work. (*****) He is takning it very seriously and he is putting in a heck of a lot of work into it, because it's not something that you just do. It demands that you really pull yourself together and it also demands that you view things in a very, very wide scale.
I'm not for a moment in doubt that IOC in general and Denmark in particular is extremely well served with the Crown Prince as an Olympic profile".
(*) We need a Secret Service-smiley.
(**) Perhaps he sailed back to DK as well? That would explain why he wasn't Regent until Tuesday.
(***) Shopping fever! I can just see it: "Would you like to go with us, Joachim"? Joachim turning pale: "No! - Ehh, no, I'd better look after the children. - I'll take ten orphans if need be".
(****) Wait until he sees the credit card bills.
(*****) Well, there is actually.
