• they only went back when they did because Carl’s leave from the Danish navy was up, lol. OR there’s a rumor strings were pulled somewhere about his next assignment so they would have to go back to Denmark…
• her mother-in-law/aunt/godmother Crown Princess Louise was a difficult person with her own troubles who had apparently not wanted Carl to marry her at all…
• Maud’s mom Alexandra the Princess of Wales is on record as writing somewhere in the fall (approx.) “if their apartment isn’t ready they’d have to be alone with ‘dear Swan’” and even Freddy (her brother, Carl’s dad) thought that was a bad idea for Maud’s sake
• When you have your own house, and you don’t want to go to Denmark, and your husband would rather be with you than in Denmark or in the navy, why go anywhere...?
• I guess if you kidnap your husband of his own free will, he’s going to have to do the more usual version to get you to leave. And you’re going to hate it, however much you love him.
• In a sense, she never left England; she called it "home" and she kept coming back and she died there.
• Persephone is a very popular myth these days, but Maud basically did it before it was cool.
