'Bajra Damri' exhibition

With her designs on beautiful traditional fabrics, woven by an ethnic Thai Puan group in Sukhothai, Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha has saved this craft from extinction by donating new weaving machines and tools to replace the old ones, which were swept away in a flood.
To promote this art, the princess has designed handbags and other products combining modern embroidery patterns and Thai Puan woven fabrics.

A princess-initiated cookbook entitled Recipes for Friends in Need of Pa will also be on sale. The cookbook, initially for distribution to flood victims in the Central Region, contains 21 recipes for local fish and vegetable dishes. The recipes were chosen by HRH Princess Soamsawali from more than 60 recipes prepared by Rajabhat Suan Sunantha University and famous writer ML Nuang Nilaratana, who has served the late royal cooking guru HRH Princess Saisawalibhirom. All ingredients are available from the foundation's flood victim rehabilitation project.

Honour ring for Princess Chulabhorn

Graz (university) - On 4 September 2007 the Karl Franzens university Graz expects to give the golden honour ring of the university to the Thai princess professor Dr. HRH Chulabhorn Mahidol for her many years co-operation with the institute for pharmaceutical sciences of the University of Graz.

Rector Alfred Gutschelhofer will present in the context of a ceremony at 11 o'clock in the aula, the honor to the youngest daughter of king Bhumibol and internationally recognized chemist.

For the first time two Indian designers are unveiling their collections during the Paris ready-to-wear shows for next spring-summer, which get under way at the weekend.
Two other notable newcomers who stand out among the 90 catwalk presentations on the nine-day programme are Thai Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, who is holding a gala evening at the historic Opera Garnier on Saturday evening, and Limi Feu, the daughter of the veteran Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, whose show is a week later.

Princess Chulabhorn visited Japan at the invitation of Nagoya University and had been granted an audiance and dinner by the Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace.

King's sister receives treatment after brain scan

BANGKOK, Oct 26 (TNA) – Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, elder sister of Thailand's monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, is being given medication after she experienced weakness of the right side of her body on Thursday, according to the Royal Household Bureau.
An X-ray computerized tomography (CT) of her brain showed an extensive area of infarction at the left side due to an occlusion of the cerebral artery, the statement said, and her condition is being closely monitored.
On June 15, the princess experienced abdominal discomfort and was admitted to Siriraj Hospital for treatment. After examination and a CT scan, cancer was found.
Her condition has since been stable but has fluctuated at times.
Princess Galyani Vadhana was born on May 6, 1923 in England. (TNA)

26 October 2007, the Team of Royal Physicians attending Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra reported that Her Royal Highness is more consciousness. Her Royal Highness still has weakness on the right side of her body but is able to move the left said as Her Royal Highness wishes. The Team of Royal Physicians will continue medications and closely monitor Her Royal Highness’s condition.

The Bureau of the Royal Household would like to make it known that the Team of Royal Physicians reported that the Cancer that was found in her abdominal cavity is the same as the Cancer of the breast which was treated 10 years ago. During the interval Her Royal Highness had beem in good health. A follow-up examination 2 yeas ago found that Cancer recurred. Her Royal Highness has had continuous medical treatment since that time.

Actually, some constitutional jurists and lawyers would argue that the 1974 succession laws allow HM the King to designate an heir despite the provision stating that in the absence of a male heir, a female may succeed. It would seem that the provision comes into play only when the monarch passes away without having first named his successor. The person most suitable to succeed, some would argue, by rank and by personality and merits, would be HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who holds the rank of (Somdet Phra Thepparat Ratchasuda) Chao Fa Maha Chakri Sayamboromratchakumaree since 1978.

On July 20th, Chulabhorn Mahidol is opening the European conference "Marine Natural Products", which is taking place at the University of Porto (Portugal). The Princess has a PhD in Organic Chemistry and her thesis is on natural products from medicinal plants in Thailand. She is now the President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), an internationally regarded research institute.

After inaugurating this conference, she visited the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto and then headed to Lisboa, where she's staying till the end of the week.

HRH the Princess Marsi Paribatra (born 1931) is a distant relative of the King of Thailand.
She is the daughter of the late Prince and Princess Chumbhot, who established the old teakwood Suan Pakkad Palace just north of downtown Bangkok.
Marsi spent most of her adult life living in Europe, studying and then teaching art history in both Thailand and Spain. From the Renaissance through the centuries towards modernism, her art evokes many of the great European masters.
The exhibition in the Hall of Mirrors at Siam Paragon includes some 38 paintings from a career that produced 100-plus artworks of the Princess. Organised by the recently set up Marsi Foundation, the paintings span her early career to the early millennium, when the elderly princess was forced to retire from painting due to a debilitating stroke.

Christian training centre for the blind opened in Pattaya with royal patronage

The Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol of Thailand and Queen Sylvia of Sweden attended the inauguration of a Christian vocational training centre Father Ray School, a specialized institution for the blind. The property is located in the district of Pattaya, Cholburi province, and boasts the royal patronage of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The Queen of Sweden attended the opening ceremony - held on 8 April - because the northern European royal house has contributed to the construction of the building. Currently it houses 144 students, from nursery to secondary schools. After completing this course, students can make their entrance into any of the institutions of the country, having received a preparation equivalent to that of able-bodied pupils.
