re: photos

I go to getty images and polfoto and i don't find these photos that you put here in this thread. How do you do that?

You have to vary your search, because they have two spellings for the Queen's name "SoPHia" and "SoFia"

Search for Spanish Royal Family or Spanish Royals, that's how I get most of my pictures.

You also can try "Juan Carlos of Spain" instead of "King Juan Carlos"

I hope this time you have better luck!

Anna

Getty images, mixed search of "Juan Carlos of Spain" and "Sophia of Greece". The older photos are in the last pages.

Terrific pictures Anna_R and Mascha!

What a treat to see all these older pictures of Juan Carlos and Sofia in their earlier years together. Sofia was incredibly poised and elegant even in her youth.

Yes, good pictures. And what about old pictures about elena, cristina and felipe. How can i find it?

For all of those who can't read Spanish, here's the translation pointed by rchainho at Hola. Hope I did it okay...

25 Years Of Monarchy

FROM PRINCES TO GRANDPARENTS

The beginning

Alfonso's XIII grandson and son of don Juan de Borbón is ten years old when, in November 9th 1948, arrives alone in Madrid, sent by his father to be educated under Franco's wings.
During 27 years (1948-1975), the prince endures enourmous sacrifices, studies hard, graduates from the three military academies. Since his arrival to Madrid, he knows that his father's greatest wish - the monarchy's restoration - depends on his relationship with Franco.

A simple life

The prince finishes his studies and moves to Zarzuela. A little while later, he meets Princess Sofia of Greece. They get married in Athens on 1962 and, after their honeymoon around the world, they settle in Madrid. The children come. Infanta Elena in 1963, Infanta Cristina in 1965 and the crown prince, Felipe de Borbón, 1968.

The transformation of the King

After Franco's death, the prince becomes a young King that, always with Sofia by his side, works day and night in the big project that has been his father's dream, a Monarchy for all. Don Juan Carlos isn't anymore a young guy with a wistful behavior. No, Don Juan Carlos has shown all of his weapons - smiles, sweetness, communication, empathy, humanism, caring - to change, definitely the fate of his country.

The maturity

Always in Zarzuela

Against all the odds, they decide to stay in Zarzuela. A little palace where they can have their family life. The slightest idea of moving to the Royal palace brings horror. Besides, according to the last interview given to Spanish TV, the King could not forget what his grandfather, Alfonso XIII had told him. "He would only eat hot food when traveling around spain. At the Royal Palace, the kitchen was so far from the dining room that the food always get there cold"

The children grow up

The Kings win the heart of the Spaniards while the kids are growing. Prince Felipe goes to Canada to study, Infanta Elena graduates as a teacher and Infanta Cristina becomes the first woman on the Spanish Royal Family to go to the university. the Prince graduates in Law. Since they were little, it was said to them that they should act with care, respect and dedication to Spain. They had to put his royal duties in front of his personal wishes.

"To my parents I own the family environment and the care I've enjoyed my whole life. I owe to them the liberty they have gave us", says the prince. "I'm very proud of him as a man, as a prince and as a heir" explains the King.

The greatest pride as princes and as sovereigns

The fullness

Along the years, the infantas begin their own families and now, don Juan Carlos and doña Sofía and the Kings-Grandparents. After thirty years without children, three royal grandchildren fill with joy the gardens of the Zarzuela Palace. Sons of their daughters. Babies that, since they were born came to decorate those covers where the infantas appeared for the first time, in their parents arms when they were babies.
The infantas show now their motherly face, the face of two young moms with sweet eyes that are experiencing motherhood. They have built, in different cities, two big families. And their parents live the fullness they have achieved as parents and as Kings.
