In general, I am starting to wonder if Queen Silvia has changed designers recently.
When she first became Queen, she remained faithful to Marc Bohan for Christian Dior; during the 80's, to Danish Joergen Bender; in the 90's, it was Nina Ricci and Jacques Zehnder; but recently, there are a lot of London-based Japanese designer's Yuki gowns, and the newest dresses discussed above don't remind me of any one of these designers.
# 1 could be by Bender, also as a tribute to the country visited, but I feel that appart from Yuki, there might be another new designer around these days...
Its by Zehnder according to se og hør, the only ones Bender might be making dresses for theese days are the angels:angel: but she might of course still have some sketches left after him. I belive the grey one is from Eduoard Vermeulen/Natan, he also made the one she wore for the spanish prewedding dinner and later for the Norwegian visit

Thank you for the info Larzen - I was completely unaware that Bender has passed away by now, sorry for that gaffe - !
I know that Natan has been designing a lot of Queen Silvia's daywear over the past few years but so thank you for the news that he has started to design her evening gowns as well - so he could be the 'new' one who I felt might have have come into play by now.

On August 3 2007, for a private birthday party of a friend, Queen Silvia wore yet another new Yuki evening gown.
After staying faithful to French designers Jacques Zehnder and Nina Ricci for years, the Japanese-born Yuki must definitely be Queen Silvia's newest favorite designer. Yuki now has his own haute couture business under his full name Gnyuki Torimaru in London He made her white 2006 Nobel dress as well as all of her dresses for the recent state visit to Japan. Links to two pics of the newest gown from anp:

Yuki is also the one who created the famous blue evening dress worn by Princess Diana for the Imperial gala during the 1986 tour of Japan of the late Princess and the Prince Of Wales.
The designer's signature style has changed remarkably little during the past twenty years. He's mostly using a special fabric of his own production. Here's a link to his interesting website:

Well, the dress is so-so except for the wonderful rich colour. But, the shoes..... oh my! Naughty little peep toes! Mmmmmm..... to die for.

I agree that the gown's rich red color is perfect - I wish that Queen Silvia would opt for more strong colors (which she used to in earlier years) instead of pastels.
Yuki is... hmmm. I am not really a fan of his designs and of that uncrushable tightly pleated fabric he himself invented and has been using for more than two decades.
On the other hand, his style certainly enhances a woman's great figure - if she has one. Still, I prefer Queen Silvia in 'bigger' dresses because she can carry them off beautifully - big skirts and trains, elaborate embroidery, like Jacques Zehnder's and Nina Ricci's designs.
As for the shoes... yep!!;)
Let's see what The queen comes up with for the Water Prize ceremony tonight, August 16.

Are there any bigger pictures of Queen Silvia at the early Nobel's? I have looked around, but can't find it nowhere.

I think that it might be a little to soon to wear it again even for Queen Silvia... I think it´s more likely that we see the dress her Majesty wore on the first gala dinner at the danish state-visit earlier this year, even though i hope it will be a dress that is not so new, can´t think of another good one right now though.

Oh, yes!
This was also a beautiful dress! I hope that it will be a very elegant an not to old dress! We will see!

Unfortunately the swedish royal court is the only one left in Europe to host a full white tie/ orders return dinner! I do hope this will at least for this royal family last for many more years to come.
I think this is also an very appropriate habit as it shows exactly the same mark of respect and hositality towards the host country as it was shown the other way around!

Has she ever worn the gown from Haakon and Mette-Marit's Wedding again. This was also quiet nice.

Indeed, the light mint green dress from the Norway wedding - very beautiful and not seen for the longst time! I love the flower petal design:

There's also the white-silver dress from the state visit to Thailand which might be a Nobel candidate, not my favorite as it appears to be too 'heavy' overall:

I'll be happy with most choices for a Nobel gown as long as it's not this one:

This discussion might have to move on to the Nobel thread though...

Was this dress new for the Norwegian wedding, I seem to remember it beeing worn before that. The Norwegian press was split on it, some called it stunning, others said it looked like a lampshade:cool: I quite liked it.

The green one from her husbands wedding was a really unfortunate choice IMO, to heavy and stiff, and to frilly around the shoulders for such a smal person, also the wrong colour for her IMO.

You are correct Larzen, the dress at the Norwegian wedding was first worn for the state visit from Italy in 1998 (makes it an ideal 'age' for the Nobel ;)). For the wedding it was altered to a strapless top, but in 1998 it still had 'petal' shoulder straps:

It would be lovely to see it either with the Bernadotte emeralds or even the amathyst parure, both of which haven't appeared at the Nobel for the longest time.
The unique Joan Rivers once called chartreuse 'The ugliest green I've ever seen'. I can't decide if Queen Silvia's dress for her husband's birthday qualifies as chartreuse but it's DEFINITELY the ugliest green I have ever seen.
Another option of course is this:

Something went wrong with it, IMO... Neither the cut nor the embroidery are up to Jacques Zehnder's high standards for example, so I wonder who designed it?

I CAN'T OPEN IBL BILDBYRA to see the pictures do I something wrong ??

I don't think so. IBL has a mind of its own, unfortunately it's 'off' from time to time. Try again a bit later and it should hopefully be accessible again...

I have just open it!!! , beautiful pics from Sweden and Denmark the gala pics are very nice , thank you very much !!

I think that Queen Silvia is truly a glamourous Queen--I love those full-skirted gowns paired with those sumptous jewels! It is all so romantic; she looks wonderful in just about everything she wears. Truly an elegant lady.

Queen Silvia has turned to a new couture designer, Stewart Parvin, who designed her arrival day outfit for the state visit to Austria:
ANP Beeldbank
He is an interesting figure - one of the hottest new British designers, he specializes in bridal dresses but has been designing exclusive one-of-a-kind suits and evening gowns for Queen Elizabeth II since 2000. Link to an article:

Queen Silvia's newest favorite designer has to be Yuki. The Japanese-born designer is now based in London, running his exclusive business under his full name, Gnyuki Torimaru.
Dressing Queen Silvia is so to speak his 'Royal comeback' after twenty years since he first became famous for a dress made for Princess Diana in 1986 which was worn by her at the Imperial banquet during the official visit to Japan with Prince Charles.
Queen Silvia started wearing her first Yuki designs around five years ago. His style is easily recognizable for its trademark details: Gathering of very light, specially made fabrics, mostly tightly pleated, to the midriff and a flowing silhouette. His dresses are exquisitely tailored with a minimum of seams; most gowns actually exist only of two or three fabric patterns. He has always remained faithful to this line of designing and even invented totally new fabrics to make it work. Link:

His designs mark quite a change of Queen Silvia's style. Here's her complete 'Yuki collection' so far - some of the gowns more successful than others.

thank you Boris, you are like a human library for Silvias wardrobe:flowers: I would have never thought all theese dresses were by Yuki but when you put them together it makes perfect sense. Did she not wear another fire engne red dress to a birthday or soemthing in Stockholm that was also a Yuki design? I dont find all of the equally impressive, the return dinner in Japan looks a bit like a sack and the one she wore yesterday also looked to big for her. I love the colour of the blue one and the asymethric black and white one

It is though IMo a pitty that she can for once choose a swedish designer for just one nobel, once in 26 years is not to impressive IMO, considering it would be THE chance to showcase what swedish designers are capable of.

You're correct Larzen, there was a dark red one-shouldered dress on the occasion of a friend's birthday in Stockholm... it was well covered by a matching stole on pics so I'm not 100% sure if it's Yuki. But I am 100% sure that we will see it again !
And since I am a walking library for Silvia's wardrobe : Her 1977, 1978, 1981 (all Olga Persson) and 1990 (some Atelier Felicitas) Nobel gowns were by Swedish designers.
I don't know if there's any Swedish designer around these days who could match the expertise of a Jacques Zehnder...
As for Yuki: The red Nobel gown grows on me because of its dramatic medieval splendour, the white Japan return dinner dress is quite something in terms of construction by tailoring, but it indeed: It's simply too big.
In general, I consider Yuki a very nice change of pace for Queen Silvia but prefer him to design gowns for 'lesser' evening events and hope we continue to see more of the great Zehnder as well.

Thank you for your kind words, Al bina.
I missed out on one more Yuki design for Queen Silvia, this time for daywear. First worn during the state visit to Japan 2007 and later at the Chelsea Flower Show, his signature is unmistakable even when designing a suit:

I have to be honest and say I was a lttle disappointed with this year's gown--there was too much going on, especially when the Queen was seated. NOrmally I think she can't miss, but I'm not sure about this year......

Boris,
I am very, very partial to everything Japanese. It has been great to learn about Gnyuki Torimaru, the Japanese fashion designer of Her Majesty Queen Silvia. In my eyes, Japanese fashion designers can do no wrong. Well… the above is my biased opinion…:)
