I don't understand why the Koninklijke Schenking / Donation Royale does not set up a collection of jewels. Every month nice jewels are auctioned in Europe. They could create a pool, available for the Queen and the princesses of the House. It is really not that costly.

But that still would not be historic Jewels whioch have been worn by generations of belgian royal Ladies.

Well Mathilde will wear it, Élisabeth will wear it. Élisabeth's daughters will wear it. The collection will be available for the princesses of the House. We have seen with the Poltimore or the Greville that a new addition can become an asset. But this will never happen when Mathilde loans something from Wolfers, then from Leysen, then from Manalys, etc.

I am surprised. It is the Belgian Royal House, not exactly the most pauvre one would think. Strange that the Queen of the Belgians has to loan jewels.

Today during Queen Elisabeth Music Competition Queen Mathilde wore a diamond pearl earrings which are modification of her diamond aquamarine earrings she had worn for the first time at the Belgian state visit to South Korea.

and in the South Korea : https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D2sApLxXQAUCDAM.jpg
So it seems the upper part can be worn with different stones. I still hopes that those aquamarines came from late Queen Fabiola estate.

Gorgeous addition to the queens jewels and wonderful to see them again.

I have the idea these aquamarine pendants have a modern setting, but we need to see the "back" of these pendants to see if it indeed can be a setting from the 1950's/1960's.

Too modern setting and not a nice collar comparing to Queen Fabiola's aiguemarines.

I agree that it would be wise for the Belgian Royal Family to have their few important jewellery pieces in a foundation of some kind. I also read that they had an important rivière necklace and that it was given to Joséphine Charlotte when she got married which shows a bizarre attitude to being the reigning family of Belgium.

It's not that strange. Most Royal families had the custom that many of the jewels went from mother to daughter. Queen Ingrid of Denmark for instance brought a truckload of jewellery that she'd inherited from her mother and grandmother with her from Sweden and Queen Marie-José of Italy brought many important jewels with her from Belgium when she married. None of this mattered since they all married other royals so if one marriage emptied the vault it was soon filled by another.

Could anyone please identify the origin of the dragonfly (?) brooch that Queen Mathilde wore on the first day of her official visit to Thruringia and Saxony-Anhalt ? Thanks.

The deco tiara loan from Queen Paola to Princess Mathilde because her tiara was not ready for her wedding dauy is the very last between the 2 Queens.
I don't think we will see other jewels from Queen Fabiola .

I do not know the origin but it does not look like the same dragonfly brooch that is owned by her mother-in-law Queen Paola:

The website modekoninginmathilde claims that there was also a dragonfly brooch that went from Queen Elisabeth to GDss Josephine-Charlotte, but it seems to be a different one:

I was hoping it could be Queen Paola’s brooch, but I agree it looks different.

A shame. I do hope that Queen Paola bequeaths her Art Deco tiara to Mathilde or to Elizabeth, so it returns to the main line.

It would also be nice if Mathilde could acquire a new versatile tiara, that could be used with different stones interchangeably.

It would be a huge surprise if Astrid doesn't receive the art deco tiara. Paola can't be bothered with thinking about the royal function of jewellery AAIK.

Princess Astrid is Paola's only daughter. Logical that she receives her mother's personal jewelry.

Note that King Philippe is perfectly able to purchase a new diadem. If he can buy a new holiday home, a new yacht, a new car, he can purchase a diadem. No problem.

This blog claims the dragonfly brooch that Mathilde wore in Germany is a 1920s diamond and sapphire piece acquired at an auction in 2018.

I don't know if that information is accurate or reliable.

Its a tiara for a queen and Mathilde wears it with pride but I wish the Belgian jewel chest wasn't so depleted and they had reacquired some of the historic family jewels.

King Philippe will have to buy wedding gift tiaras for his two daughters-in-law and maybe for his two daughters too. Maybe he is saving for the future given that the Belgian royal family is not particularly wealthy.

King Albert II was well enough off to buy himself a $6.6 million yacht named Alpa less than a decade ago so he must have spent the Belgian jewel fund!

The present King was wealthy enough to buy himself a helicopter so it is a matter of priorities perhaps.

A few small tiaras should be possible to acquire. Small tiara's with small stones can sell for 20.000 euros or less. The tiara that was acquired for Pss Claire was far from extravagant - and her new one even less so. That is IF the King acquires tiaras at all. It is possible that the younger siblings(-in-law) will simply not wear a tiara apart from on their wedding day. Let's hope that Pss. Elisabeth will at least be/have been given/left Q. Elisabeth's bandeau or the Spanish Floral tiara.

I think they will have to wear tiaras as Eleonore and Gabriel’s and Emmanuel’s wives will probably attend state dinners unless they don’t live permanently in Belgium.

I know it is blasphemy on a forum like ours but it is possible that they attend state visits without wearing a tiara. Princess Claire has done so in the past.

We will have to wait and see if they attend state dinners or if the King prefers to limit the more active and visible members of the family. We saw today in Luxembourg that Prince Guillaume and Princess Sybilla -who are supposed to live in Luxembourg- did not attend the state banquet of the Belgian king. The same goes for the Spanish infantas. This downsizing trend may reach the Belgian court at one point.

Having limited future apanage funding to Princess Elisabeth, leaving her siblings to support themselves professionally, will probably downsize the siblings' programs of activities in comparison to Princess Astrid's and Prince Laurent's during their father's reign, and that might extend to their spouses as well.

If King Philippe buys some Jewels for his daughter's and future daughter-in-laws. it would be better to acquire some diamond necklaces which convert to tiaras so there is more fleixibility to use them. And hen it would be wise not to givge them as personal property but held them in Trust as monarch so the can be lend out if a occasion to wear them comes up. This wqy the peaces could be used by several Family membes.

Indeed. But I would have thought that, in any case, they would have bought a few more pieces in recent years. For example, a good "work horse" diamond necklace (to supplement the Wolfers), and a few other critical bits.
