Ow I am lagging behind, the State Banquet has already passed... time flies.

Yes now I see: her the laurel leaf diadem of the Belgian Nobility.

Thanks. Nice surprise.

Too bad that the Queen did not opt for a real collier, but ach... we can not always have what we desire.

Nice look from Mathilde, except for that hideous necklace/collar thing...

:previous: That's no necklace, that is part of the gown, and I actually quite like it. It's nice to see Mathilde with the laurel tiara again, and I think she placed it well. TBH, I'm not surprised that she wore a tiara, since Queen Maxima also wore one in Canada and Mathilde wore one at the black tie banquet in Poland.

I preferred a real necklace or a naked neckline.

The collier-like part of the gown mismatched a bit with the beautiful diadem and earrings, in my personal opinion.

:previous: I agree, it has often been overlooked because it was her starter tiara but in all honesty, I think she rocks it like nobody else and in so doing, makes a far stronger statement than ostensibly more important pieces.

I am curious to learn what that "far stronger statement" is?

Its a beautiful tiara and a classic design though I don't like it worn as a necklace.

The cohesive and excellent design elevate this Tiara above any other in the Belgian collection [imo]. BEST of a rather 'limited' bunch..

I think the Diamond Bandeau, the Wolfers Diadem and the base of the Nine Provinces, all three smaller diadems, by far trump the Laurel Diadem by design, carat, cut and quality. Even in moving images you will hardly detect a glitter from that diadem, as small its diamonds are and how tight they are set in a static monture (not set en tremblant). But okay, everyone his or her own favorite.

The Nine Provinces tiara might have more Carat Power then the Laurel Wreath tiara but in the full setting the style the bandeau part and the top part are not really matching each other. What i also don't like is that the arches end suddenly and the bandeau continues.

I quite agree about the awkwardness of the full setting of the 9 provinces tiara. And the bandeau looks better as a choker than as a tiara, imho. Also, I quite glad that Queen Mathilde has now at least three different tiaras at her disposal. I'm very fond of diversity, and the wreath design is quite different from the more abstact designs in the 9 provinces and the Wolfers tiaras. So I really enjoy seeing the laurel tiara being in the rotation.

I like the Nine Provinces but that is the part which I don't like. I'm okay with the sudden end of the arches (at least it stops at its side, it looks perfect from front), but what I don't like the most is that the arches and the bandeau end suddenly in different length, and the end of the bandeau is like it has be chopped off (it seems that the last half Greek Key has no diamond on it, which makes the motif looks incomplete in the end :bang:). I think it really needs a good/suitable hairstyle as it looks better if the end is covered by hair.

The design of the base is absolutely beautiful. It is best worn without the arches.

:previous: Indeed. To me the base bandeau itself is one of the best meander tiara.

In 1926 Princess Astrid received from the belgians a tiara designed by the Jeweller van Bever with 11 diamonds (100 carats). 9 Provinces of Belgium and Congo unified into the Royal House.
She never liked the tiara and when she became Queen an agrement was found and 11 arches were added.
At her Wedding the Princess received the Stockholm tiara she never liked. She wore the top as a brooch and its base was never seen.

I've seen a few pictures of Astrid wearing the tiara and I do get why she disliked it so much. It's the total opposite of the lovely Vasa tiara that her sister Märtha was gifted by Stockholm when she married Olav of Norway.
It's lovely as a brooch though and it's sad that it seems to have been lost like so many of the royal jewels later used by Lilian of Rethy.

Can you please identify the earrings Queen Mathilde is wearing today at CP Frederik's 50th birthday gala ? They look huge !

Perfect tiara choice with the waterfall Brooch. But her earrings are to heavy and too modern.
I don't know when she got them.

With Mathilde, we never know if it is a piece she actually owns or a loan, as he seems to borrow jewelry quite often. Those big earrings, however, look the same she wore at the Danish state visit return event. They are actually nice, but I agree they are not a good match for the tiara and the brooch.
