I like the hat piece and Queen Máxima's hair always looks better up than down, the shoes however are not nice and remind of a similar red pair worn Letizia of Spain.

I like the shoes and overall she looks nice. Now she is always with hats, is this the protocol in Holland that the Queen has to go everywhere with hats? I mean most of the events could we say 85 % she uses hats? Did she need one for this event? I understand the formality of some events need hats but this event it is like going to work for the day , just curious......... I wonder how long she takes to get ready and how many people she has to get her make up, hair, etc....?

Just an horrible outfit, those shoes need to go somewhere far back in her storage and never to be seen again. I like her personality yet most of her clothing choices are to far out. This lady is in a position to be seen almost daily at events as a queen, Please dress like one! Not a good choice today dear Max..

In general hats are worn when she is in an official capacity as Her Majesty Queen Máxima. That means escorting the King during State Visits, official visits and formal visits. She wears hats when she has to baptize a ship, lay a first stone, open a building, visits a major exhibition.

You can almost be sure that she will not wear a hat for "working visits", for visits in the framework of the Orange Fund (her wedding present which hands out some 35 million Euro per year to charities, clubs, volunteers, etc.) and when she is on the go as Special Advisor Inclusive Finances to the UN Secretary General because then Máxima feels she is in her role as UN representative and not as Her Majesty Queen Máxima, Princess of the Netherlands.

Queen Beatrix was far more formal but she had an entirely different role: she was the head of state with a competely different agenda than Máxima: no room for side-steps to the UN or the Orange Fund. And of course Queen Beatrix, alike Queen Elizabeth, simply regarded her outfit as her uniform. It had to express who she is, it had to be dignified and stand out visually.

When Queen Máxima visits a project for young juveniles in rehab, or an immigration centre for asylum seekers, or a neighbourhood centre, or a dog shelter, she probably will opt for "casual". Also helpful to get all the stiffness and protocol down and bring the people at ease. "I am just Máxima", she replied to an answer on how people should address her. That was unthinkable under Queen Beatrix.

:flowers: Thank you so much, this is very clarified! lol if it is for me I want to dress like her to go to work ! but I guess with a har or fascinator everybody would look at me a crazy, specially here in the US :ROFLMAO:

I love the dress, but am not crazy about that fluorescent green with it. I normally love that color, and I love back + white, but together it is not working for me. Maybe because the dress is a little low key (which I realize is probably why she wanted to liven it up)? Anyway, the fascinator is cute, and I don't hate that type of shoe, but I prefer them with pants.

Too matchy on the accessories! The dress itself is OK, the neon green scarf is kinda cool, but the shoes ....ack! Queen Maxima being who she is, she nearly carries it off, but it's a miss for me.

I like the surprising colour combination, and it's a pretty look overall but the shoes ruin it.

I am in love from the knees up. :flowers:

The dress is fantastic. And I love the pop of green in her belt and hair. I usually hate hair pieces but I like it hear. Her hair is lovely.

The shoes :ermm: They look like Letizia red ones. And oddly I liked on Letizia. But as much as I love the green belt and hair piece, the shoes are horrific in that color. A pair of black shoes would have been much better.

Not bad yet something is wrong with this picture. I actually like the outfit for it looks comfortable yet to wear at this event? Trying to impress the leader of India maybe, then you should be yourself in your clothing choice as you are the Queen of the Netherlands after all.

Something really needs to be done with that HAIR.....wash it, comb it, put it in a bun or ponytail, something beside long straight stringy hair that looks dirty.

Now if any queen should be criticized for being under dressed for meeting a foreign leader I nominate Maxima

Letizia may look like a business meeting but Max looks like she is out for a day shopping on holiday. Pretty dress but certainly not what I'd expect at this.

I thought Maxima looked a bit messy. The outfit is nice, the print and colors are great and since they met the President at their home, then I guess they wanted a more relaxed meeting, this outfit is it all. That doesn't mean I like it for the event, its a bit too casual. The hair was messy, no question about that. A simple ponytail would've looked so much better.

I don't think she's underdressed but I really don't like the look overall. I actually can't imagine that dress flattering anyone.

The outfit is okay but the hair looks messy and as so often lets the overall look down.

Maxima this morning op Urk (My hometown) was it the same outfit except the hat as seen on kingsday?

You are right, she wore it on King's Day 2016 and back then added a matching cardigan!

The floral skirt is by Natan.

A very nice outfit indeed. One of Natan's better creations. And the pink brightens up a weather-wise dreary day.

Wow, this is very pretty, eye-cathing outfit and color on Maxima. Also her hat and hair match so well with this outfit.

I agree with you on the shade of the hat, the two pinks clash and it is very noticeable. Otherwise the rest of the outfit looks just gorgeous on her, love that skirt and sweater. Just glad that the hair is under the hat this time.
