It looks silly because it IS silly...
As I said before, this safety pin thingie could perhaps be worn as a 'fun' detail on daywear, but certainly not at a state banquet with order and important jewelry.
Anything less than the Fleur-de-lys brooch, which Letizia has frequently worn on an order's sash, shouldn't do for these occasions.
Although even that brooch ended up on her tummy instead of the shoulder, where it belongs.

The pin probably went unnoticed in person. From far, it only showed something shiny, very close, the diamond can be spotted right away .

I have a bangle pushed up on my arm right now and it is staying - it is not comfortable but is is not slipping down -
I said in another thread that the infamous safety pin looks like Letizia took any old safety pin, dunked it into glue and then dunked it into rhinestone flakes.
Maybe it should be delegated to pinning a royal diaper!

That's actually a most interesting idea regarding the original provenance of this historic jewel. :ROFLMAO:

Okay, letizia wore a safety pin to a gala event...to a gala dress. She wanted to make a statement, wanted to be fashionable...so to say.

If she is a Hollywood star, singer....what EVER....I'll say......good, nice, funny !

BUT she is a PRINCESS.

I can hear late Empress Auguste-Victoria, great-grandmother to Queen Sofia and former owner of the prussian tiara she wears, turning around in her grave and mourning.

She is on a gala event, on a state dinner...she can't wear a safety pin, even if it has a little diamond, strass stone or whatever on it.

A safety pin is not appropriate and a state visit is a serious deal - not a place to make fashion statements.

She can wear that - show that she's a fashionista too - in her free time. On a dinner with friends or whatever. But not on a state dinner.

Why, why ???? didn't Queen Sofia tell her ? She could have grabbed the thing a throw it into the next litter box.

I don't like this dress, it fitted her not nice and it looked like a smalle dress with a big skirt on it. In also don't understand why she used a safety pin? They have such nice diamond broches.

I can't stand the use of the safety pin either. I don't know why she uses it and if it were for a sentimental reason then I would understand, but if were truly sentimental then why wear it sometimes and not all of the time? If she can set it aside at other times and wear a nice brooch, then I suggest that she do it all of the time. It really looks tacky.

I don't like this dress on her either. Letizia does not look good in sleeveless tops whether they are formal or casual. It's not about her arms being too thin, it's that they look strange. It makes her entire frame look strange when she wears tops cut in that particular style. Her arms are not thin with a soft feminine look to them. She can wear things that are off the shoulder well, but not plain sleeveless.

It's a nice outfit indeed and the pieces match each other very well. The only thing I would like to be different is the fabric of the shirt, because it's transparent.

I agree! I just do not care for transparent tops on royals. It cheapens the look, somehow.

Exactly! We can see transparent clothes everyday,if we want to (actresses, models etc.),so I expect something classy and regal when I come here.Otherwise I could be registered in Scarlet Johannson's website.......

The only transparent part of the top are the sleeves... and I don't think that the blouse looks cheap only because the sleeves are transparent.
Imo Letizia looked elegant and well put together.
I definitely couldn't imagine Scarlet Johannson in an outfit like that. Seriously...:whistling:

I love this dress! it looks wonderful on her. I also like the hairdo and the shoes. She looks more beautiful than the first time she wore it, IMO ;)

This dress is so lovely on her, very feminine. I prefer it without the necklace as the heavy lace and high neckline are sufficient. I happen to love her hair the way she is wearing it as it balances out the straight , fitted look of the dress. She did well today, imho!! :)

A beautiful dress like this - she should have it replicated in different colors as it is so pretty and fits so well -

Crown Princess Letizia looked appropriate in a well-tailored dress. A delicate lace dress favourably enhanced her figure. At the same time, I have to say that her hairtyle tends to look unpolished.

She looks fresh and beautiful, wearing in this evening outfit, great!!!

Love the dress, love the hair, but my favorite is her smile! Beautiful!

I like the hairdo but personally I preferred how she looked when she recycled the dress and changed the neckline from a big off-the-shoulder bow to a more simple top. Here's a picture (originally posted by Elsa M.)

Yes the second version of the dress is really nice - i think i read somewhere that it was designed with the off-shoulder neckline to symbolise her old life ie one with royal orders/sashes and then was changed to be able to accomodate her new role as a princess thus being able to wear the order etc

That is a stunning dress for Letizia, she looks so beautiful in it.
And i think the back of the dress is just divine. A perfect combination of elegance and daring.

She looked really beautiful that night. I love her hair, makeup, and the color of her dress. Her future mother-in-law also looked really beautiful.

I just got this Months Majesty Magazine and notices the CP Letizia uses a standard safety pin to attach her sash to her dress, this was at the Russian State Dinner.

Most unusal, I thought she could use a brooch or other jewel but not a pin!
