The discussion about Meghan's first official engagement has been moved to the Current Events thread.
Speaking of general random conversations about the engagement, it came up today while I was getting a manicure, and the manicurist said that she hoped Meghan got an air-tight pre-nup. Oh! It hadn't even crossed my mind but I realized she had a point, especially given that Meghan is entering the marriage with considerable personal wealth.
But the manicurist wasn't thinking about money, rather the children. The manicurist assumes there will be a divorce. She feels that no way will Meghan be able to sustain the constraints of the BRF over the long haul (and tbh that has crossed my mind, too). Anyway, her point was that a pre-nup was necessary for custody of the children in event of a divorce.
The upshot of the conversation was that we both figured that Meghan will eventually want to live in Los Angeles, and Harry will have to come along if he wants his family intact. That was the jist.
So saying, I really think Meghan needs to keep dual citizenship. The longer her British citizenship is strung out the better. Give it three to five years, I say.
Now that the engagement has been announced, should we be setting up a thread to discuss a potential divorce?
Lady Nimue, I always enjoy reading your analysis of possible future events. I suppose this is a dose of reality in a otherwise fairy-tale moment. Who can say ten years down the road? I've worried a bit about Meghan's incredible energy, spirit, and independence eventually being constrained by the BRF, "The Firm". How will this affect her and her relationship with Harry? Time will tell......

Wishing them well. Hope the restrictions and limitations of the Royal way of life don't bore Meghan after a few years.
Since couples with none of the complications of this couple still manage to crash and burn within two to three years I find the doom on Harry and Meghan just smacks of empty lives filled with petty meanness and malicious gossip.

Wow.
I'm very optimistic about the longevity of this match.
And I see Meghan blossoming in her new role, much as Sophie did. Sophie is a freakin' powerhouse and is raising two kids while she works full time for the Firm. I love who she is.
I love who Kate is. Loyal, loving, supportive to her husband and by extension, the BRF. She understands her role and its importance, especially as the mother of William's children. She embraces it and lives it. And yet she is still herself, getting silly with children and throwing herself into the athletic and adventurous activities that come her way as a working Duchess.
I actually see Duchess Meghan gaining freedom as a royal. Plucked out of the marketplace of the entertainment industry (shallow and ephemeral) and thrust into the arena of high-profile charitable works for the common good (significant and lasting) is a great way to go. Some things will remain the same in her new career (publicity, emphasis on personal appearance, the fight to maintain a certain level of privacy) but becoming a world traveler with your life partner and in turn being internationally recognized seems like a great trade off IMO.
Yes, I am a bit of a cheerleader for the women of the BRF.
Wow.

Meghan Markle will do just fine the same way outgoing previously high-flying career women, like Maxima, Mary et al have done well and carved out different paths for themselves marrying into foreign royalty.....I’m a stickler for positivity, you see

Perhaps Meghan should follow Princess Michael’s example. When Jilly Cooper published an unflattering article about her after a prolonged friendship, HRH sent Ms Cooper a box with 30 silver coins in it.
It’ll be a baptism of fire for Meghan. Barely married a month and then balcony appearances, Ascot, Garter Day. But that’s probably a great way for her to get used to the royal calendar and I’m sure she’ll have lots of support.
Doubt we'll see that them at church until wedding. Do we even see pictures of Harry going in and out of church other than the royal family events? Will H & M attend church services tomorrow or attend Christmas services?
Even if Harry attends services sometimes we wouldn't know. There are a lot of churches where he could slip in and out.Doubt we'll see that them at church until wedding. Do we even see pictures of Harry going in and out of church other than the royal family events?
