This is the problem with social media and tabloids taking a simple non-news worthy event and blowing it all out of proportion!!!

The moment was special to the people Meghan spoke to. Nothing more or less!
 
Simple as that. I am a realist and a logic thinker (unless it’s food and fashion and cats), I have also stopped putting people on a pedestal thinking all they do is perfection - which is what I am starting to feel some are doing with Meghan, making her a know it all goddess.
The gesture was sweet, and it was special to the people she said it to. But it does not mean she knows the language, or that she’s some sort of a language wiz.

I'm pretty sure we're saying the same thing. I never claimed Meghan was fluent or even knows more Tagalog than the phrase she said. I didn't see anyone else making that leap here. And yes saying 2 words = a bit in my book. :ermm: It was a cute exchange and seemed to make their day. That's all.

It was a nice moment. Noone said she walks on water or won the noble prize. It was a simple nice moment that made those people happy. With all the ugliness in the world today, can't we just let nice moments be nice moments.
 
I’m always sad to be the party pooper but, it doesn’t look like she really knows the language, but more like knows a handful of words of it, kind of like how I know a few wordsmith in Arabic and Russian because my country has a a large population of both, or how I know some words in French and Spanish. It’s the kind of words you pick up and learn when you either live in an area that has a huge population of that culture and you need to communicate better with them, or if you go as a tourist and learn some basic words to be able to get by.

I can believe she knows Spanish (la has a huge Mexican community) and French better (as they are taught in school in the us) I can even buy her knowing more then basic Italian - which is also taught in school, she may even learned it in college. But it does not look as if she actually knows or speaks more than a handful of Tagalog.

So I fail to see the excitement that she knows two words of it.

I don't think anyone thinks was fluent in it. The point was that she took the time and acknowledged them in their native tongue with what she did know and made them feel good. Isn't that their job? Mission accomplished.

As a person who had a experience that failed to respond immediately when a foreigner came to ask me something in English suddenly on the street and needed few seconds to change my channel, I would say it's not something very special but indeed a kind of ability. Not everyone can respond immediately (for example me :lol:). It is fine to show a little appreciation on this, don't need to be that critical or keep nitpicking:rolleyes:.

Exactly though it is interesting that this small gesture seems to ruffles feathers for some odd reason. Though I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised.

It's a big deal because most people would not spend the time to learn even a few words in another language in order to put people at ease, especially Americans.
 
Folks do tend to forget that Meghan had a life before her engagement to Harry. The woman has traveled around the world with her friends and due to her UN work. She has picked up some different languages along the way. She probably speak a different language fluently or just know a few words. All these things are good things, folks.

STANDING OVATION, perfectly said. She is there standing on her own with harry. Not hiding behind him. But then again, she is a people person. She may make a miss a step along the way, but she is doing it. And better yet, she has been doing this Years nefore she met harry.
 
I'm sorry but as someone who doesn't think Meghan is fantastic I think this debate over her use of Tagalog is ridiculous. The fact that she can say anything in that language is impressive especially because I never knew it existed until it was mentioned here. I think with this Meghan gets a well deserved Kudos.
I hate HATE bringing this woman up, but her speaking in their language is almost like Diana speaking Welsh in her first speech, it's just a nice gesture and makes native speakers feel at ease.

It's the effort that is appreciated, not the execution. :lol:
 
I also think it was a sweet gesture, authentic moment, and it was clearly appreciated by the ladies Meghan said it to.
 
Nice to see the continued tie-in with International Women's Day. Last year Meghan's article on menstrual health and charity trip to India were released in conjunction with the day. Do we know whether Harry had a similar engagement last year?
 
I'm glad that the engagements so far seem very much tailored to Meghan's passions. A lot of emphasis on youth, especially females. Can't say I'm surprised they doing something on IWD because, again, very Meghan. I'm very much looking to when she announces her patronages.

How do patronages work?

Do the organizations request a particular royal, or does the Queen assign them?
Or does the royal tell the Queen which ones they would like?

The Queen doesn't assign them, usually. There's a list of organisations and charities who have applied for Royal Patrons. Courtiers (or members of the KP office) check the organisations concerned out carefully, then if they think there is a match with a particular Royal in terms of spheres of interest then they pass the information on. That royal's secretary or assistant then writes to the charity concerned and negotiations go on from there.

Looking forward to the engagement on March 8. I wonder if Meghan will be a patron(ess) of similar women's causes from the UN.

March 8th. Two engagements in Birmingham. One of which to support women in STEM on International Women's Day.

Is this connected to the Women of the World Festival that Camilla is President of (it's planned to coincide with International Women's Day)?

Sounds great for Birmingham - was kinda wondering if they would be doing anything to support Camilla's WOW work - but looks like they'll be doing something separate.

It is indeed adorable. She looks thrilled with her hug. And I hope this little girl and all the other boys and girls grow up and achieve all their ambitions.
 
What a sweet moment. Harry really has a good heart.
 
Its the little things that they do when among the public that makes it even more special for the people attending. These are not two people just showing up to be seen and have their picture taken as they walk along but there is always some kind of a personal encounter that makes it all even more special.

Trust Harry to zoom in onto something that would make one little girl so very happy. He seems to have extraordinary radar when it comes to things like this. :D
 
That was so very sweet of Harry to do that. It's something the little girl will never forget. It should be a hugely inspirational moment for her. ?

The little girl spoke to the reporters and she said "It is a moment I will never forget." Bless her.

Then later you see another little girl go in for a hug. Also caught on video. They definitely do seem to get kids excited.
