I hope, that the DRF has now the respect of the press, to be undisturbed at hospital and in Lech. It's hard to cope with a family member in life danger.

Yes, the press should stay away from the family at this point.

Queen Beatrix and Princess Mabel just arrived at the hospital. There was a lot of press.

Intrusive pictures.No-one needs to see them now and they most of all can do without intrusive business at this point, and out of sheer respect alone one shouldn't even contemplate posting them Iris.My idea in this case.:)

Yet you reposted them again. If we are allowing them to appear again and again on these boards let's not complain. Either do not post and re-post or accept these boards are just as interested in invasive pictures as the people taking them.

Very true principessa!!Absolutely!

To give a focus point on how much this tragedy has hit home here in The Netherlands, nearly 3 million viewers watched the late editions on Prince Friso on dutch tv news bulletins last night. It really is a shock, and also a heartfelt sorry for Her Majesty as she has to endure this all after difficult times these past 10 years.Schon sehr Schlimm.

I didn't post nor repost them, the only ones I posted were of the government aircraft leaving Schiphol last night. That is it and that will remain so.I will never post personal direct pics of the Family, not now not ever,I do hope you understand??Thank you.

The dutch palace site works only in dutch. No other language works for the news. So it would be nice if someone posted fresh official reports!
We feel compassion, not intrusion.
God save him!

To Fandesacs, there are NO recent updates on changes of the Princes condition other then that his condition is very critical and he is still fighting for his life. The Royal House website will keep this message,in dutch...,untill more is known about the overall condition of Friso which is not sooner then within the next 3 to 4 days.We all have to wait till then.

An update on the story that was told by Janneke, the dutch journalist of the NRC paper and wife of a Dutch visiting neuro-surgeon at the University hospital there at the time the Prince was taken in.As I said before she told the press that Friso has no other injuries but the lack of oxygen of probably 20 minutes. What happened now is that the University hospital in Innsbruck denies that statement as completely false...

But,Janneke's husband, the visiting neuro-surgeon,confirms that his wifes report on the matter is absolutely correct from A to Z.The hospital is in an embarrassing position as one of their neuro-surgeons in charge of Friso, blabbered too much even tho Janneke made it known she was a Dutch journalist too and would report anything said and picked up by her.Inspite of that warning neuro-surgeon in residence Claudius Thomé told Janneke's husband everything on the Princes condition while she stood next to them, except for some really sensative information meant for doctors only.

Bah.just bah...the hospital that tries to deny everything that happened and thus trying to lie to people with more then average grey cells.....a rare commodity in some circells as one has noticed by this, but still...

HM and Princess Mabel arrived first at the hospital today ahead of the brothers and their spouses so to be alone with Friso a short while before they all come in.He,and others in his case, are only allowed two visitors at a time at his bedside.

The newest report, dated February 18th, does not state anything different: Friso is in a stable, yet critical, condition. There is no change in the situation. He is still not out of danger.

I doubt we will get much more information besides the above over the next few days until appropriate testing and diagnosis can be made.

I am certainly not a medically minded person so maybe someone who is can give more information. If someone suffers from a lack of oxygen for 20 minutes what problems can occur as a result?

Brain damage,as in general a brain can only cope without oxygen for about 5 to 6 minutes, after that it is difficult to say what damage and to what extend is done. That is what we will know in 3 to 4 days time, not yet, there is no clear picture on that now.Sad enough.

Everything from a vegetative state to those extremely fortunate who suffer no effects whatsoever.

He might end up suffering from varying degree of paralazys, problems with memory, concentration and so on.
The good thing is that the retraining of people who are brain-damaged is pretty advanced nowadays. The brain, to put it simply, needs to "re-wire", that takes time and endless practise.
Even then he could end up suffering from a speech impediment, problems focusing for extended periods, not having full control over a limp, as in dragging a leg.
If, repeat if, he should be suffering from from a braindamage, the real ordeal has just started, because the psycological effects can easily be just as severe.
Partly due to the near-death experience, but also from the sheer frustration of trying and trying but still not succeeding in using that fork! That frustration will be wented on someone, - usually the family and the wife in particular. - That is a severe test of any marriage!
Then there is the feeling of shame, which many people suffering from severe brain damage feel. They will sometimes not show themselves to their friends or relatives. They feel embarrased that people near and dear to them should see them in that state.

That was the gloomy picture and now for the more positive picture: The younger, healthier and colder the one who has been suffering from a lack of oxygene is, the better.
The archetypical ideal cases are children who fall through ice, and suffer no after effects even though they may have been under the water for up to half an hour or so. The cold and their youth protects them.

Thankfully we don't know if he was really without oxygen for that amount of time as normally people manage at least to save a bit space instinctively in front of their face on being caught in the avalanche. In addition to the fast lost of body temperature which slows the vital functions down considerably this can mean that there is a good chance it was not too long. (think Apnoe-divers, how the cold in the deeper levels of the oceans helps them survive) Especially the fact that he could be reanimated fairly quick is good, because the oxygen already in the blood prevents instant damage. A artificial coma is the normal way to help the body cope with such things but it takes of course some time till the doctors can end the coma knowing that the body will work again properly. And only then they can find out what has happened to the brain.

So from the outside there is a lot of clues that there is a good chance for Prince Friso. Let's hope it will really turn out alright. It's the long period between reanimation and awakening that is spent in the artificial coma that is so difficult for the family. Even if there is hope there is fear as well.
My thoughts are with the DRF.

The reports about the prince in NRC (dutch quality-paper) are incorrect!
The journalist, whose husband is a neuro-surgeon wrote about the prince not having injuries and having had a quiet and stable night.
Information directly from the hospital said that these informations are not correct.
The prince's situation remains as critical as yesterday

Please read my post 191 above on the subject.

Janneke Koelewijn didn't say it wasn't critical anymore,no,she said something different and I posted that here above in post 191.The hospital is therefore in an embarrassing situation because they've got a blabbermouth 'oh look what I know and how important I am " bs neuro surgeon in residence that can not seem to keep his mouth shut when he has to.And he has to under all circumstances regardless collegues but he thought to shine in a false moment of self-made importance by blabbering on Friso's condition while he should have hushed. The hospital is very much trying to go in some sort of damage controle mode by denying any of this conversation between Claudius Mohrée and the dutch doc and his journalist wife ever took place...pffoei...hope that is clear now...They will have to deal with HM on the matter tho as she doesn't take lightly to this sort of thing to either one.:)

According to Menno Reemeijer, a Dutch journalist, Queen Beatrix and Princess Mabel have left the hospital and are heading back to Lech:

"Koningin en Mabel hebben ziekenhuis verlaten en gaan terug naar lech"

https://twitter.com/#!/mennoreemeijer

If Prince Friso's wife is not staying by his bedside can we assume that he is not fighting for his life. If that is the case, then that would be a slight up-grade from yesterdays news.

This is really very sad news. I hope Prince Friso pulls through this; can't imagine what his family must be going through.

all my thoughts go to the family, particularly to beatrix and mabel.

friso is at the university hospital of innsbruck, which specialises in avalanche-traumatised patients. the family is staying as they usually do in Gasthaus Post in lech

The Dutch Royal House website,as a courtesy, was so kind to post a photo of HM and Princess Mabel while arriving at the University Hospital.

HM and the Princess leaving the hospital now only means that the princes condition has not changed and that both HM and the Princess take a rest in Lech with the grandchildren who are not all yet in an age that makes them understand all that goes on.His brothers and their wives are still with Friso.Sad,really sad.

Very poignant weekend to contemplate the frailty of life as well as the miracles as we all are hoping for a recovery of P. Friso while waiting on news of CP Victoria and the new baby that is due "any day" according to Q. Silvia.

My prayers go out to the entire family, thank God they have access to the best treatment for him. God Bless Prince Frisco and Mabel, positives thoughts are coming from America to the entire Dutch Royal Family!

Just read he was brain dead? Hoping it's not true...
