Hello. I am from Canada, and new to TheRoyalForums. I am hoping there's someone out there who can help me fill in some holes in my genealogy research. I have traced my family back to the House of Egmont in the Netherlands (as far back as the year 755). One early ancestor, Jan/Johann I van Egmond (1310-1368) was both Lord of Egmond (inherited from his father), and Lord of IJsselstein (having married Guyotte van Amstel and inherited that title from her father). My family name derives from IJsselstein, and I recently traveled there to visit family castle (ruins) at both Egmond-an-den-Hoef and IJsselstein. I would be most appreciative if anyone has information to share about my family, or can point me in the direction of information, books, or experts on the families van Egmond (Egmont) and/or van IJsselstein (Ysselsteyn, Ysselstyn). Thank you,
Loretta Aselstine

Welcome to TRF. We have a special thread for this kind of questions, so you may want to post your request there - although I am not sure there are specialists on this forum that will be able to share more than you already know: https://www.theroyalforums.com/threads/help-with-family-and-other-mysteries-2-june-2024.51596/

You might be interested in this thread about the Egmont Palace as well or this one about the wives of Willem of Orange (whose first wife as you will know was countess Anna van Egmont).

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do know about Anna van Egmond, Lady of IJsselstein (Maximillian van Egmond, Lord of IJsselstein's daughter). Maximillian also had a bastard son named Alexander van Buren-Ysselstein, and I am descended from him.
