King Willem-Alexander Current Events 4: Aug 2023 -

The last audience IF the new government is installed at all and does not crumble before they make it to the ceremony ;). So far the King only had one prime minister, who gave him some freedom. The PM to-be is an unknown high ranking civil servant. It is not very likely he will last very long but we will see and perhaps will be surprised.

The departing PM Rutte will be secretary genera of NATO so the king will see him every now and than. Next year The Hague will be hosting a NATO summit and I imagine leaders will be received at the palace.

That must have been a pretty special moment for both of them...

Apparently, the new PM/government had to be convinced that the installation of the new government cannot take place next Monday as it is Keti Koti (he called it 'Tikkie ehhh' when he had to explain why it was on Tuesday instead of Monday) - while not an official holiday, it is the day on which the abolition of slavery is remembered each year in the Netherlands (and former colonies). It's become more and more recognized over the years (last year the king presented 'official apologies'); as is evidenced by the presence of the 'old' government at the main event in Amsterdam with 10 of its members(!). It is suggested that the king also made it known that it was preferable not to plan the installation on the 1st of July - although sources close to the Palace claim it was no official refusal (had the new PM insisted).

A nice idea to showcase these pieces, which are to far away to look normally.

King Willem-Alexander will be visiting Foundation the Sunflower tomorrow (on Wednesday) to join their 75th anniversary celebrations. He specifically requested to participate in the celebration in the province of Friesland. So, it seems that they keep an eye on where activities are taking place to make good use of opportunities outside of the central/west part of the Netherlands where most royal engagements take place.

Lovely pictures of the king riding a wheelchair bike (i.e. a bike that carries a wheelchair in the front).

Such a beautiful initiative.
I was genuinely moved!

I was raised 10 minutes away from that and as a child have gone very often to that care park, which is beautiful, with many playgrounds and accessable to all. The point is to mingle the people in care with others. Lovely to see him there. His grandmother always had a special interest for this group.
