France will pay tribute to King Juan Carlos with a State Visit

the King will carry out its villa next year visits official France, but this time with a special character. Jacques Chirac wants to express the recognition from his country to the Spanish Monarch by 30.º anniversary of his access to the throne.

21/12/2005 PARIS Correspondent Before leaving the Elíseo, Jacques Chirac want to pay tribute to king Juan Carlos with a great visit of State, that will be celebrated probably the spring of the 2006. It will be the fourth official visit of the Spanish Monarch to France, but it will have a rank superior to all the others. The president of the Republic, that the past attended a formal invitation to the King month of November, wants to express of this form the recognition from his country to the figure of Juan Carlos I in the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his coronation - the 22 of November of 1975- and to emphasize the narrow relations between France and Spain, that happen through one of the best moments of common history.

In their letter, Chirac praised with great praises the "essential paper" of the King in the reestablishment of the democracy and the transformation of Spain in a modern and dynamic country: "Without your determination, patience, without your commitment without failure, without your height of sights, the democratic transition in Spain and the establishment of institutions unanimously respected would not have achieved without a doubt this exemplary success, that has provoked the admiration of the entire world", it said. In agreement in the importance of the visit, Paris and Madrid, nevertheless, do not finish putting in agreement on their exceptional nature. According to sources of the Quai d´Orsay, this one will be the first visit of State of Don Juan Carlos to France.

According to Spanish diplomatic sources, however, it will be third. Both first official trips from the king to France have had also, according to this version, this same category. The first trip of Don Juan Carlos took place in October of 1976, hardly a year after acceding to the throne, being president Valéry Giscard d´Estaing. The second, with François Mitterrand in the Elíseo, was made in 1985 July. Later, the Spanish Monarch would carry out two visits more: in October of 1993 - during which he pronounced a speech before the French National Assembly and in July of the 2001, to attend the military parade of the national celebration of the 14 of July, in which the Spanish real guard participated.

In France, the visit of State is surrounded by a great pomp and reserve for exceptional occasions. Normally there are only two to the year, in spring and autumn, and one of them traditionally is reserved - colonial history forces -, to an African Chief of State. More rarely it can have one third, always towards the month June. Perfectly regulated, a visit of State must last a minimum of three days and include a displacement to provinces. The program includes the arrival in helicopter to the esplanade of the Disabled in Paris, a route by the Elíseos Fields escorted by the republican guard, a tribute to the soldier not known in the Arc of Triumph and a great banquet in the Elíseo, in a precise protocol until the detail.

They will also make a state visit to Norway in the beginning of the summer/early spring (probably May) I have not seen a date for the visit yet, it was mentioned by the credible royal reporter (who speakes spanish) in the otherwise not so credible Norwegian magazine Se og Hør, I have not found any mention of it at the forreign affairs website yet, but it makes sense since they have not been since Harald became King

that's a great news, Larzen... i hope to see a banquet with the norwegian RF and the Kings of Spain.

speaking of state visit, is it customarily for the heirs to come also, in this case, Felipe & Letizia? because when swedish royals visit norway, victoria went with them, and when norwegian royals visit uk, haakon & mm go with them.
how about the spanish protocol?

The Spanish Royal Family does not do this type of trips, the Kings and the Princes are not in the habit of travelling together, have their agendas of individual trips.

Does anyone else wonder how Sofia, not meaning to sound rude, at her age manages to walk around in such high heels?
I mean I can barely balance in heels let alone walk in them!:D
Obviously she's used to it but still...they must hurt her feet:confused:

if you see pictures, you would notice all the women in the SRF wear very high heels, Letizia because of the height difference with Felipe and the Queen & Infantas because it's the way they were taught to use them, they walk on those heels like they were born on top of them:)

Forgive me what i'm going to say but isn't the first time and isn't the last that the queen appears first and the king after her in the public events. That isn't protocolar!

It isn't!
But once that King said that don't bother him and he also said that he never would be upset with the Queen because that isn't the most important thing!
And the Queen appears first and the King after a lot of times... i remember that in the official lunchs with primer-ministres or with presidents the Queen appears almos always first! But the Queen isn't critized because of that... and i don't know if she already was critized for that... because the Queen is a kind of untouchable! ;)

Also the king has said that Sofía is his life partner, he's the ruler, she the consort but together as a whole they are the Crown (La Corona), so he doesn't mind because he believes they are not two people but one institution.

About the Queen, hell raises anytime anyone tries to say something wrong about her, even from the same journalists among themselves, she has a better image than the King and the people in Spain (and in a lot of countries) love her because of the hard work she has put all these years in her foundation, which helps tons of people in the world...

Just a correction:
The Queen said that they and the royal family are the Crown!
Here is an excerpt but it is in spanish of the book "La Reina" of Pilar Urbano. And if you read it you can see that she said that.
