King Frederik X, Current Events Part 1: January 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Another of King Frederik's visits, released today:

One early morning BMX rider Malene Kejlstrup was visited by His Majesty the King during his Olympic training in Amager 🚴‍♀️Malene Kejlstrup is a former U23 world champion and European champion, and she has recently been working purposefully to get ready for the Olympic Games in Paris.

Are the Danes sending a gymnastics team to Paris? I'd love to see Frederik try the balance beam. LOL

I am loving these daily reels of his visit to different athletes! I also love that he is up for engaging in some fun demonstrations, even if he is not that great at it..lol. These visits are not about him, they are about truly showing support for the athletes and their sport. It is not a PR stunt or set up photo op. Whoever came up with this idea of highlighting a sport daily with a fun reel deserves kudos.

I like that the people commenting under the videos notice the same things about him that the rest of us do -- that he's incredibly down-to-earth and unpretentious. Yes, he's a king and has been royalty his whole life, but he's more likely to introduce himself as "Fred" rather than by his title. I'm sure the athletes he's spotlighting also appreciate the fact he cares and cares enough to give their sports a go!

Also like that he is highlighting female athletes. It is not just about showing support for the men. And I also agree with the comments. He's relatable, even while being royal. I think it it because he has not lived in some weird bubble all his life surrounded by "yes" people giving him a sense of entitlement or a fawning media either. But I digress.....these daily reels have been great and kudos to whoever had the idea!

:previous:A nice set of photos of today's public audiences:

Cirka every other Monday throughout the year, His Majesty the King holds a public audience at Christiansborg Castle.Today, the first public audience after the summer holidays was held, and according to tradition, shortly before the start of the audience, the King received a list of today's audience seekers 📃The Danish royal house has a long historical tradition that, in principle, anyone with a special mission has been able to apply to represent the regent. At the audiences, there is an opportunity to show up and personally thank the King for, for example, the awarding of a royal order or medal, a royal appointment or for the King's participation at an opening or a visit. The king received 44 Danes in audience today

It's a very old and good tradition. Maintains an affiliation between the Monarch and ordinary people, which is so important for any monarchy.
- Long may it last.
This should be something King Frederik excels in, considering his people-skills.

Of course foreigners can also apply for an audience, if you have a very good reason that is. Merely wishing to see the giraffe, doesn't count... ;)
But if one or two of you should somehow end up being a Danish consul... in say... well, California for example... You would meet FX&QM. Probably several times.
Merely a thought, that for incongruous reasons struck my mind.

Love that they gave photos. 2 of thr monarch and the rest of the guest and traditions.
Wonderful!

Many of those attending public audiences, when interviewed after, have always stated how easy it was to speak to the Monarch, how personable and genuine and, most importantly, interested he was.

Per Billed Bladet, King Frederik received 44 Danes this morning, so quite a full morning!

...

You see that too on many facebook and instrgram posts, Danes talking about their audience with Frederik.
May this tradition always be open for all.

and @Muhler , I am writing down your advice ; )

Is this the first time with see the King's portrait on the orders?

June 24 had Queen Margrethe I think

I think so. It looks like for the June 24th public audiences the crosses already had King Frederik's monogram, but the medals still had QMII's portrait. And for today's public audience, the medals have the King's portrait.

Frederik held public audiences today

Later today, HM The King attends a reception on the occasion of the 33rd BSPC conference

Security in the Baltic Sea is the main theme in Elsinore for the 33rd Parliamentary Baltic Sea Conference.

Here's a gallery and another article with a video about today's reception for the BSPC conference:

And some photos and a video provided by the Palace:

"The king made a speech at the reception and uttered for the first time as regent a 'Cannon Bowl'. It was originally Frederik 2. , who built Kronborg Castle, who used cannon salute when he toasted with his guests at Kronborg. The Cannon Bowl was introduced with hornets and trumpets, after which three cannons on the main force outside the Dance Hall fired a salute with three shots..."

Well this is new (to me). @Muhler I await further details ;)

My darling stepmother received The King's Medal of Merit in silver for 40 years of employment in the public care sector this week. She was initially scheduled to receive Queen Margrethe's Medal of Merit after New Year but the abdication postponed the award ceremony until now when new medals had been produced.

Cannon bowl - Well, google translate strikes again.
Kanonskål = canon-toast.
Kanon = canon. -
Skål = toast, but it can also mean cheers as in a toast, and finally it can also mean a bowl. We do that to confuse foreigners, you know. A way to pass the long winter-evenings.
Admittedly I've never heard about it.
But what happened was that a fanfare of trumpets and kettle-drums was sounded (must have been the Guards Hussars), then King Frederik proposed a toast, followed by a salute of three shots from the 1700s bronze cannons from the redoubt outside Kronborg Castle.
- A stylish way to propose a toast and not something everybody is able to do. So let's hope this won't be the last time.
Incidentally the heavy bronze cannons outside Kronborg are actually the heaviest artillery pieces we have in DK right now, as all our artillery was donated to Ukraine and we haven't got the new canons yet. The Kronborg canons are also considered the oldest active cannons in the world.
And three cannon shots were and is the Danish identification signal for ships. While three hurrahs was the official cheer and also battle cry of the army. - In Sweden they used four shots, hence the four hurrahs for Sweden, whenever the Swedish royal show is on.
The three hurrahs is to this day used at almost every single birthday and similar celebrations. Someone propose a toast and three hurrahs for the birthday child or the happy couple, if it's a wedding or anniversary etc. - Invariably followed by someone proposing a fourth and extra long and loud hurrah.
You'll see the tradition illustrated in this video. Skip to 0.45.

As the article and Polyesco's post explain, the whole idea stems back from when Kronborg was build in the 1500s and it was Frederik II who came up with the idea. Kronborg at the time was a hyper-modern fortress and located as it was it was a sight ships sailing to and from Copenhagen and the Baltic saw, not least because all ships sailing through the Oresound paid a tax to the Danish crown for doing so. And that tax was collected at Kronborg. - It was very profitable indeed for DK for centuries, but it ended in the mid 1800's, when the Americans (spoilsports) refused to pay tax and then everybody else followed suit.
But back to Kronborg. In the 1500s everybody and their spinster-aunt had heard about Kronborg but few had of course seen it. So the good Shakespeare came up with the idea of using Kronborg as a location for Hamlet (also because there actually is a mythological Danish king called Amled, but that would have been about 1000 years before Shakespeare) since everybody had heard about it and as everybody also had heard about the cannon-toast, he incorporated that as well.

Another event for Frederik for tomorrow, not yet on the calendar.
"At regular intervals, there are government reshuffles in Denmark, but Thursday will be the first time that King Frederik in his role as the king will receive a team of new ministers.
The politicians are back after the summer holidays, and on Wednesday afternoon Mette Frederiksen, Troels Lund Poulsen and Lars Løkke Rasmussen were invited to a press conference.
Here it was told that three new ministries are on the way, and this means that King Frederik must also take action.
With the three new ministries comes a government reshuffle, which will be presented tomorrow, Thursday, and in connection with that, the new ministers will have a trip to Amalienborg to greet the regent."

King Frederik's meetings with the Prime Minister, outgoing ministers and all the new incoming ministers is now on the official calendar. He received the primer minister and 9 new ministers. And met with outgoing ones.

Yes it was a major reshuffle.
Which is still being analyzed by political commentators.

King Frederik X received new ambassadors at an accession audience at the Palace of Christian VII in Amalienborg.

At the reception, King Frederik X welcomed the ambassadors of Mauritania, Oman, Angola, Sweden, Qatar and Malawi.

Always nice to get pictures! and in my favorite uniform : )
He also had an audience with departing ambassadors.
HM The King receives outgoing ambassadors from Ghana and Iran in audience.

A very good tradition and may it continue! I'm glad they gave pictures.

Agreed. Here is another post

Let's go through the protocol.

The ambassadors are always received in the alphabetical order of their country. Whether that order is Danish, English (most likely IMO) or French, the diplomatic language, is not known to me.
In that way there is no perceived snub and no perceived favoritism.

Often the ambassadors show up in their national costume, which adds an extra touch to the whole ceremony IMO.

The ambassadors, in fact they are not official ambassadors yet, present themselves to King Frederik and present their credentials showing that they really have been appointed ambassadors by their countries. Once King Frederik has received and symbolically glanced the text, then and only then are they official ambassadors to Denmark. And from that moment the ambassador will be treated is is he/she is the head of state of his/her country. Because ambassadors are considered direct representatives of the head of state of their country. And that entitles them to a ceremonial military honor guard and escort.

Ambassadors at a farewell audience are still ambassadors. And they will remain ambassadors until they have left Denmark or they have been relieved by the new ambassador at the embassy.
Apart from saying a polite personal goodbye the farewell is also an indirect personal greeting by the ambassador's head of state to the Danish head of state, confirming good relations between our countries.

So there is a lot of symbolism in all this and that also explains why King Frederik is wearing a gala-uniform. Because of course you dress up in your finest when meeting a direct representative for the head of state of a foreign country.

The very high status of ambassadors stems from the fact that at least beforehand the ambassador on occasion went home to deliver a personal report to his head of state and also to answer additional questions due to the ambassador having an in depth knowledge of the country where he was stationed.
Nowadays the ambassador usually send reports to the foreign ministry but he should still be available if the head of state wish to learn more.
And that is also why "recalling the ambassador for consultations" is one of the most serious ways a country can show its displeasure. Because that means the situation is so serious that it has been necessary to call the ambassador home to figure out what is up and down based on his expected in depth knowledge of the country where he has been stationed, in order to try and prevent a bad situation escalating further.
And that is also why an attack on an ambassador is such a serious thing. Traditionally someone attacking a Danish ambassador is equivalent to someone attacking King Frederik himself.
