Too right, can't wait for their visit!!
I'm sure the naysayers will do their thing, as they always do. Most of us ignore them!
Only thing I’m concerned with Asteria12 is the weather.
Went out yesterday in sunnies, hat and sleeveless, and a few hours later the temperature had dropped six degrees and fork lightning was all over the Harbour for ages. Cold and miserable today, still raining.
Hoping it will get it over with these next few days and we can all have some nice skies here next week.
I saw that it is expected that the King and Queen will stay … on their vessel … in Farm Cove for the Naval Review.
I guess that means the five Navy ships will parade past them which is what happened at the last Review here.
Prince Harry was the Royal at that one, in uniform and on one of the big Naval ships. Big turnout, beautiful weather, might have been a weekend so many people out.
Farm Cove is the small horseshoe bay …all lined with a seawall … in front of the Botantic Gardens.
This makes sense for people to be able to see the Royal Couple.
People can collect from the Opera House, around the Man O’War steps or go this way … not far … to Farm Cove.
Also, people have been told they can gather on the headland known as Mrs MacQuarie’s Chair which looks down on Farm Cove from the other side.
(Sorry if you know all this, are a Sydneysider.)
I thought I would watch from my building, but as the Harbour is not one big bowl but lots of bays and headlands, I won’t see Charles and Camilla if they are not moving about much.
In fact, the other side of the Mrs MacQuarie’s headland and Farm Cove, is the bay used for the Naval Base. All within walking distance, the Opera House to where all the Naval vessels are lined up most of their days.
And we’re starting to get back into the cruise ship season. I saw there is going to be one berthed in Circular Quay opposite the Opera House on that day.
It is scheduled to depart at 4.00pm, which is earlier than usual. I think it must have to make its way out before getting tangled up in the Naval Review, though being a working day the ferries get busy for peak hour at this time, school students and workers start going home. It will add to the busy activity of it all though.
Good weather makes such a difference, as wer’re coastal on one side, have the Blue Mts on the other and are getting into the time of year when things get unsettled depending on what is happening with our weather system.
I’m hoping to see it one way or another.
A nice touch is this is the place where Charles’ mother first set foot on Australian soil. There is an enormous sandstone wall on the lawn on one side of Farm Cove commemorating this.
A report on an ad campaign the Australian Republic Movement have launched at the time of Charles and Camilla’s visit here.
The report contains the ad … and if you watch it you may see there is perhaps a lack of mature discussion going on about changing our form of government. And why not many are bothering to get involved with their ideas.
