King Charles & Queen Camilla - Visit to Australia and Samoa: October 2024

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit Australia and Samoa, and attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from 18th - 26th October 2024.

Hopefully, the King's schedule in Australia and Samoa won’t be too demanding. I’m sure his doctors or advisors have carefully assessed the trip to ensure his health and well-being are prioritized.

Fantastic news! It really seems like we are entering a period of normality again in the British Royal Family, with The King and The Princess of Wales gradually returning to the status quo. God willing.

It is a pity that there couldn't be even a brief stop over in NZ.

It's only three hours across the ditch.

My understanding is that the trip, as envisaged, did include time in NZ. However, on medical advice for HM, it was decided to scale back. Let us not forget the King is still receiving treatment for cancer. I have no doubt that a trip to NZ will be scheduled as soon as it is safe for HM to visit.

Details of the itinerary have been released letting the general public, in both Canberra and Sydney, know when and where they will be able to see the Royal Couple … times of road closures and entry points/security screening etc.

The Tuesday in Sydney sounds good with Charles and Camilla boarding a boat at the Opera House’ Man O’ War Steps to sail about amongst five Navy ships which will be on the Harbour.

The Airforce, Army and Navy will conduct a fly-over during this Review.

We will probably get fireworks in the evening off Admiralty House … a few streets away from me … as we get them at the oddest times.

Any official in town seems to get a fireworks display, so I’m expecting that is why this is so late in the day … going from the review to Admiralty House by boat for a Reception/Dinner.

This VIP Naval vessel, the Admiral Hudson, doesn’t look as impressive as the many, many private boats here in Sydney though.

Maybe some of those will join in and add to the fun.

A long clip from one of this morning’s national tv shows about the up-coming tour …

And the other major breakfast show reporting on the big snub to Charles by our State Premiers …

Why have they declined, ? Surely that reflects on them more than the King.

Totally Hallo girl ... and nothing to do with any Republican movement here either, that's dead really.

I think most of the State Premiers are just that way at the moment. All bar one are from the Labor Party. (I think.)

They won't find the general public agreeing with them.

If the weather is good ... lots of grey skies, cold wind and rain lately ... the Royal Couple will get a big turnout in both cities.

We don't get over-visited, and if there is a festive atmosphere people won't want to miss out.

I live above one of Sydney's yacht clubs ... and the sailing season started a few weeks ago ... so I'm expecting to see the yachts all decked out next Tuesday morning for the Naval Review that afternoon.

The party boats have been out and loud over the last couple of weekends, so that time of year has arrived.

We're ready for a good time, and Charles and Camilla
will be a good excuse for more of that providing the weather plays nice.

Sounds wonderful, I am not the least bit jealous.

Here is a report that details the resistance to Charles and Camilla’s visit.

Some are even planning to come out from the UK to protest the Royal Couples’ presence here.

Personally I only take note of the results of polling within Australia from NewsPoll, which tends to be very accurate.

The majority of younger people (under 40) especially the under-30s demographic are not anti King Charles but just want an Australian Head of State.

And people with Labor Premiers heading their State Govts have known for decades that that the Australian Labor Party favours an Australian HOS. That includes the National (Federal) Govt AND Prime Minister Albanese, who is a republican himself.

That Labor Premiers have other things to do with their time than attend a civil reception in Canberra, will come as no surprise to the majority of Australians.

Damn !
But i bet you're eagerly expecting this visit and will be in the streets with your little flag ( at lunchtime of course) very much like in 2015. Do you ?

No, I’m not eagerly expecting this visit to Australia, actually. I was out in the Melbourne city streets, (not with a flag), and saw the Queen on her last visit to Australia, but then I had a great deal of respect for the late Queen, and by contrast have little to none for Charles and certainly none for his wife.

And why would I be in the streets of Melbourne, with or without a flag, anyway? Charles is only visiting Sydney (NSW) and Canberra (ACT) on this trip, no other States or Territories. Presumably, by your comments about me in the streets and a flag you don’t know the couple’s itinerary.

Plus Btw, citizens can change their minds about their particular Hs of State of their countries as they age.

And I would appreciate it if your posts replying to mine on several subjects over the years are less sarcastic and personally insulting in the future.

Shock and horror i didn't have a clue ! And you think you know people. Oh well. My bad.

Sarcasm again, I see!

And, as an Australian citizen I have a perfect right to express my opinion on who I believe should be HOS of my country and what form the process should take.

Too right, can't wait for their visit!!

I'm sure the naysayers will do their thing, as they always do. Most of us ignore them!

Only thing I’m concerned with Asteria12 is the weather.

Went out yesterday in sunnies, hat and sleeveless, and a few hours later the temperature had dropped six degrees and fork lightning was all over the Harbour for ages. Cold and miserable today, still raining.

Hoping it will get it over with these next few days and we can all have some nice skies here next week.

I saw that it is expected that the King and Queen will stay … on their vessel … in Farm Cove for the Naval Review.

I guess that means the five Navy ships will parade past them which is what happened at the last Review here.

Prince Harry was the Royal at that one, in uniform and on one of the big Naval ships. Big turnout, beautiful weather, might have been a weekend so many people out.

Farm Cove is the small horseshoe bay …all lined with a seawall … in front of the Botantic Gardens.

This makes sense for people to be able to see the Royal Couple.

People can collect from the Opera House, around the Man O’War steps or go this way … not far … to Farm Cove.

Also, people have been told they can gather on the headland known as Mrs MacQuarie’s Chair which looks down on Farm Cove from the other side.

(Sorry if you know all this, are a Sydneysider.)

I thought I would watch from my building, but as the Harbour is not one big bowl but lots of bays and headlands, I won’t see Charles and Camilla if they are not moving about much.

In fact, the other side of the Mrs MacQuarie’s headland and Farm Cove, is the bay used for the Naval Base. All within walking distance, the Opera House to where all the Naval vessels are lined up most of their days.

And we’re starting to get back into the cruise ship season. I saw there is going to be one berthed in Circular Quay opposite the Opera House on that day.

It is scheduled to depart at 4.00pm, which is earlier than usual. I think it must have to make its way out before getting tangled up in the Naval Review, though being a working day the ferries get busy for peak hour at this time, school students and workers start going home. It will add to the busy activity of it all though.

Good weather makes such a difference, as wer’re coastal on one side, have the Blue Mts on the other and are getting into the time of year when things get unsettled depending on what is happening with our weather system.

I’m hoping to see it one way or another.

A nice touch is this is the place where Charles’ mother first set foot on Australian soil. There is an enormous sandstone wall on the lawn on one side of Farm Cove commemorating this.

I'm keeping everything crossed that the weather plays nice, especially considering what we've had lately!
